ITALIANO La Basilica del Redentore o comunemente chiamata "Il Redentore" sorge sull'isola della Giudeca e si affaccia nell’omonimo Canale. Progettata da Andrea Palladio nel 1577 e terminata nel 1580 da Antonio da Ponte, dopo la morte del Palladio, che rispetto fedelmente il progetto Palladiano. Fu realizzata per mandato del Senato che chiese l’aiuto Divino facendo voto di realizzare una nuova Chiesa intitolata al Santo Redentore per contrastare con l'invincibile pestilenza che causò tra il 1575 e il 1576 50 mila morti, quasi un Veneziano su tre. La Basilica è un bellissimo esempio dell’unione armonica tra Culto Cristiano ed il tempio dell’Antichità classica. Il Palladio ha voluto creare un’opera che porti il Fedele verso la Rinascita e verso il divino. La stessa gradinata esterna composta da 15 scalini simboleggia la salita al Tempio di Gerusalemme. La chiesa è formata da quattro blocchi spaziali: il Rettangolo della navata, le Cappelle laterali, la Tricora composta da due absidi (struttura a pianta semicircolare) e il Coro (parte terminale della Chiesa, contenente l’Altare Maggiore). Entrando dal maestoso portale si notano subito le due acquasantiere circolari in marmo, dove sono collocate due sculture in bronzo raffiguranti San Giovanni Battista e il Santo Redentore. Proseguendo troviamo tre altari a destra (la Natività di Cristo, il Battesimo di Cristo e la Flagellazione di Cristo) e tre altari a sinistra (l’Ascensione di Cristo, la Resurrezione di Cristo e il Trasporto di Cristo al sepolcro), arrivati sotto alla grande cupola troneggia l’Altare Maggiore con bassorilievi marmorei raffiguranti la salita al Monte Calvario e la Deposizione della Croce sul retro. In memoria di quel terribile e scampato evento si festeggia ogni anno, alla terza domenica di luglio, la famosa "Festa del Redentore". ENGLISH The Basilica del Redentore or commonly called "Il Redentore" is located on the Giudeca island and overlooks the homonymous canal. Designed by Andrea Palladio in 1577 and finished in 1580 by Antonio da Ponte, after the death of Palladio, who faithfully respects the Palladian project. It was built by mandate of the Senate which asked for Divine help by vowing to build a new church dedicated to the Holy Redeemer to counter the invincible plague that caused 50,000 deaths between 1575 and 1576, almost one in three Venetians. The Basilica is a beautiful example of the harmonic union between Christian worship and the temple of classical Antiquity. Palladio wanted to create a work that leads the Faithful towards Rebirth and towards the divine. The same external staircase made up of 15 steps symbolizes the ascent to the Temple of Jerusalem. The church is made up of four spatial blocks: the Rectangle of the nave, the side chapels, the Tricora composed of two apses (semicircular structure) and the Choir (end of the Church, containing the High Altar). Entering through the majestic portal, you immediately notice the two circular marble stoups, where two bronze sculptures depicting St. John the Baptist and the Holy Redeemer are placed. Continuing we find three altars on the right (the Nativity of Christ, the Baptism of Christ and the Flagellation of Christ) and three altars on the left (the Ascension of Christ, the Resurrection of Christ and the Transport of Christ to the tomb), arrived under the large dome dominates the High Altar with marble bas-reliefs depicting the ascent to Mount Calvary and the Deposition of the Cross on the back. In memory of that terrible and escaped event, the famous "Festa del Redentore" is celebrated every year on the third Sunday of July.
