The Arch of Santa Catalina is Antigua’s most iconic landmark, and probably one of the most recognizable symbols of Guatemala. Perched above a bustling street, this historic arch was built in the 1960’s, and its bright yellow stone, neat white trim and French clock make the perfect photo- especially with Volcan de Agua looming in the background.

This is the most popular street in Antigua and boasts some high end textile shops, jewelry shops and lovely places to have a meal. La Fonda is the local well established restaurant that is located on this street. Here you can savor some traditional Guatemalan Cuisine. Santa Catalina Arch is the landmark of Antigua. Built in 1693, it was once owned by Santa Catalina Convent. Cloistered nuns used a covered walkway (located under the clock), to go between the convent and the convent school across the street without being seen. The convent was destroyed by earthquakes and never restored.

A must visit spot in antigua! Rocking a splendid view of Antigua Guatemala’s Colonial homes as well as its volcano. This should be first spot for picture taking! There are many wonderful restaurants nearby such as Fridas (Tacos and Nachos)!
