Founded in 1506; construction started 10 years later& continued for the following 300 years. The interior is a flamboyant explosion of ornamentation. It is a masterpiece of Churrigueresque style.

In the Monastery of La Cartuja, also called the Monastery of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, you will find Spanish Baroque at its best. It is the best example in Spain

The Monasterio de la Cartuja de Granada was founded on an old Arab house called Aynadamar (Fountain of Tears). It took 300 years to finish it. But it was totally worth it, so today we can enjoy it.

Monasterio de la Cartuja was formerly a Roman cemetery. In 1506 the Great Captain donated land to the monks so that they could build the Monastery.
