The airport is under an hour away if you plan on flying to Maine. There are several options including Avis for car rental at the airport.

Easy in and out but be careful because flights like to leave EARLY. Recommended to be there 20-30 min before BOARDING TIME. You'll still wait on the runway and your gate won't be available at LGA when you land early... but that's just the way it works.
