The church bell is a donation by Aritstotelis Onassis and is an imitation of the original one. He was a Greek from Izmir in Minor Asia. Aghia Fotini was the cathedral there destroyed in 1922.
Saint Fotini Church & Belfry. * The belfry was funded & built by the Onassis Foundation as per specifications of the old belfry in Smyrni (Izmir, modern day Turkey) before the destruction of it in Asia Minor (Anatolia).
Church of Agia Fotini is a beautiful church located on top of a hill in Nea Smirni, Greece. Originally a site for a huge cathedral of Izmir, this church is celebrated for its stunning architecture. The church’s bell tower is absolutely magnificent and so is its wood-carved icon screen. Definitely worth visiting if touring Nea Smirni, this church is one of the Greek masterpieces.
