This is the cheaper version to Go Ape if you don't mind driving for 20mins and it has a mini golf course as well. It's a great day out for kids.

Haigh Woodland Park is one of the north west's most treasured natural attractions. Perfect for picnics, amazing for adventurers, fantastic for foodies. Golf of all kinds. Kitchen Courtyard full of boutique food and drink stores. High Ropes for aerial adventures. And miles and miles of walking trails..

Lovely markets run on the weekends sometimes. Pumpkin event, ticket only, it had sold out today, so we didn’t get in. Played crazy golf £18 for a family, played on the park, had an ice cream, ate in the cafe, bought a gift from the artisan butcher ( shocked by the price) High ropes, fairground rides, mini train, a pond for feeding the ducks, ample picnic space, good for learning to bike ride or skating. A courtyard full of artisan food shops, cafes and bars. PERSONAL CHILDHOOD STORY ALERT. . . I used to get the bus here and walk down the country road to the hall, they were only every hour. We just missed one so decided to walk home across the fields. Full of cows, which started walking then running towards me and my friend. We had to dive over a barbed wire fence to escape. My friend ripped the trendy coat she was wearing bought in aflex palace, which she had borrowed from a rich younger boy who she half knew. I never found out if she replaced it, we are not friends now. Anyway we survived, it was scary, but we had a fun adventure. The verve once played here, I didn’t go, couldn’t get tickets but some of my friends did. However another claim to fame is that I dated the graphic designer of their first album cover a few times, met him in the bee’s knee’s a pub in Wigan. The drugs don’t work, the verve. Another very successful visit to haigh hall, mum made us a superb picnic. So a cheap day out £3.50 for all day parking , £5 on ice creams and petrol money. It was super hot and super busy. We only managed to get to the playground and rope swing as mum was on her rollater. Then we managed to buy her a scooter from Aspul, just like new, hardly been used. She is very happy to be able to be mobile again, however she hasn’t actually used it yet, just sat on it. She s too scared. On the road down to the park in a field is a windmill, so we had a little lesson in the milling process of grains of wheat to flour. It’s like the painting byVincent van Gogh, Le Moulin de la Galette, 1886.
