Bed-Stuy is best explored either by foot or bike. There’s so much to discover and places to enjoy. From street art to local food spots, the neighborhood is full of character and characters.

Bed-Stuy has been a center of African-American culture since the early 20th century, home to cultural icons including Jackie Robinson and Jay-Z. Ornate 19th-century townhouses fill the area, with indie boutiques on Tompkins Place. French bistros, Southern comfort food, and Caribbean cuisine define the dining scene, while diverse crowds fill hip, cozy bars, many with live music. Bed Stuy is one of the best historic neighborhoods to explore. Tree-lined streets filled with roughly 8,800 buildings built before 1900, the country’s largest concentration of intact Victorian architecture. Bed-Stuy is famously one of the anchors for the Black community of Brooklyn and NYC. The Bed Stuy community has a rich history as one of the centers of Civil Rights activism in the 1960s, and raising a generation of legendary hip hop music artists including Jay-Z, Biggie Smalls, and Lil Kim. The neighborhood is notable for being the childhood home of Chris Rock, and Spike Lee. Lee's childhood stomping grounds were the inspiration and setting for his early films. Other notable celebrities include Bobby Fischer, Mike Tyson, Jackie Gleason, Lena Horne, Norah Jones, and Jackie Robinson. As well as the first Black woman to be elected to Congress, Shirley Chisholm.

Bedford-Stuyvesant, commonly called Bed-Stuy, has been a center of African-American culture since the early 20th century, home to cultural icons from Jackie Robinson to Jay-Z and the Notorious B.I.G! Ornate 19th-century townhouses fill the area, with indie boutiques on Tompkins Place. French bistros, Southern comfort food, and Caribbean fare define the dining scene, while diverse crowds fill hip, cozy bars, many with live music. The Oscar-winning director Spike Lee filmed the iconic 1989 flick, Do The Right Thing, on Stuyvesant Avenue between Quincy Street and Lexington Avenue.

An eclectic historic neighborhood just 25min to Manhattan on the A line. If you are arriving at JFK, you can take the A train to Manhattan and get off on Utica (Fulton Park Stop) must ride the front on the train to get off at Fulton Park. From here, 258 Stuyvesant Avenue is only a 5 block walk along a beautifully tree lined street with majestic historic homes. The neighborhood has lots to offer with plenty of restaurants, bars, and nice shops along Thompson Ave. Come discover why Brooklyn has become the place to live and visit.
