Okarito is one of those places you are so pleased to find, the feeling is almost at the end of the world it is so quiet, in a wonderfully natural environment of sea and forest. The cottage is very welcoming, well equipped and just felt like a home from home. We will certainly recommend this place to all our european friends. What a perfect place to stay. The place exceeded expectations and is even better than the photos and descriptions suggests. The fireplace worked flawlessly and was stocked with plenty of firewood and kindling to use. The beds had nice pillows and sheets that were warm and enveloping - and one bed had an electric blanket which was useful on a cold night. The outdoor bathtub was the highlight of the trip - the view of the Milky Way from a hot bath in a secluded area was something special - even saw a couple of shooting stars. The home is a quick 4 minute drive to Franz Josef town if you’re looking for restaurants or the grocery store. Can’t recommend this place more. What a special two nights we had there. My family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Sarah’s place. From patting the ponies to lying in the hot tub whilst admiring Mt Cook, it was a very relaxing stay. We enjoyed exploring the river and cooking in the large, well-equipped kitchen. We also enjoyed sitting in front of the fireplace. The stay was all we could have wished for. Just be careful - the sandflies will bite on sunset

The house has a great location and is close to the next larger town, which is also very cozy—Hokitika. The house is set in an idyllic spot with the perfect view of the mountains, which seem to close in, and in the morning, the mist beautifully weaves through the trees and peaks. The accommodation itself is incredibly cozy—really, really cozy. If you like, you can even light a small fire. We were warmly welcomed by Heather and Jim, who are such lovely hosts. Their entire property is simply breathtaking.

Great House and Location. Right on the beach and logon. Very peaceful and picturesque. House was well equipped, clean and comfortable. Highly recommended. Coffee and cookies at the kayak adventure store (two doors down) was an added bonus.

Cute cottage, easy to find, with gorgeous bush surrounds. A bit out of town, but an easy drive to the shops. Everything we needed for our stay in Franz Joseph.

Really lovely place to stay. We enjoyed how tranquil it was out in the country, and we even got a clear night to see the amazing stars! We didn't use the fireplace as there wasn't a fire guard and we had our one year old with us who likes to run head first into everything, but the beds were super warm and thankfully it didn't get too cold during our stay. Definitely planning on coming back again soon :)

beautiful house that was kept clean, including the kitchen equipment and utensils. heating worked great as well. we had a great stay!
