Aswell as the theme park Alton towers has the most amazing gardens. The fireworks here on bonfire night are stunning . It a beautiful 45 min drive high up on the Staffordshire moorlands to get here.

They seem to becoming a ‘go to’ place for modern pottery collections with major collections having been sold here in the past-. I’ve bought a few majolica jardinières here - so be careful if you go!

We’re only up the road from the potteries and their unique pottery making history - Doulton and Wedgwood still have a factory shop . Spode did but I think it’s now gone too sadly- Emma Bridgewater is keeping the fires burning and her factory is open with a cafe but it’s not the same : It’s a bit clunky, it’s not fine China . The potteries museum is well worth a visit - it now has its spitfire back - the supermarine designer came from stoke. ( although I believe it was someones daughter , Hazel Hill, who worked out the math for the guns)! And who knew - Darwin , only had the time to stroll around his garden for 20 years to figure out evolution because he was of the Wedgwood family!
