Jim Thorpe is a town in eastern Pennsylvania. The Mauch Chunk Museum and Cultural Center details the area’s coal mining history, and the life of the town’s namesake, Native American athlete Jim Thorpe. In nearby Lansford, No. 9 Mine and Museum is set in a 19th-century anthracite coal mine. On the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway, century-old coaches powered by diesel engines take passengers into Lehigh Gorge State Park. Good restaurants and fun town. About a 20 minute ride.
