The quilt gardens are scattered throughout Elkhart County and are interesting to see plus it takes you to some quaint spots in surrounding towns, exposing you to some of the out of the way places you may not otherwise see. The closest one to The Cabin is in Middlebury at Krider Gardens. There are brochures available there that will direct you to the other gardens.

The rails to trails initiative developed the Pumpkinvine rail line into a wonderful bike/walk/hike trail across the area. It is easily accessible from The Cabin and bikes can be rented from Pumpkin Vine Cycles to explore the trail and surrounding towns.

Many Amish do not want their picture taken. Just ask.
While many Amish do not want their picture taken, some will allow you and even pose with you. Just ask. Don't assume they aren't watching or don't care if you snap their picture.

Sundays and Mondays
If your stay brings you to the area on Sunday or Monday, you will want to plan for stores and some restaurants to be closed. Most locally owned shops will not be open on Sunday as well as local restaurants. Chain restaurants and fast food are open typical hours and will be available on Sunday.
Shops reopen on Monday but restaurants that were open on Sunday are often closed on Monday. It is always a good idea to check before you go as hours of operation change quite often.
