Fishing with a Gilly
For those of you who would like to fish two of the best fishing lakes in Ireland are easily accessible (0.5 miles) from Clonbur. Lough Mask (Trout & Coarse Fish) and Lough Corrib (Salmon, Trout & Coarse Fishing). A local experienced Gilly, Declan Gibbons is available to organise fishing trips on either lake. This is an easy to moderate hike up Mount Gable with beautiful views of Lough Mask and Lough Corrib, as well as large parts of Connemara. There is a car park at the foot of the mountain. You can also make the walk longer by starting from Clonbur village and the house itself - the foot of the mountain is 3.4kms from the house. The hike up to the top of the mountain itself is about 30 minutes.

It is a good idea to book all in advance as they book up quickly.

Inisbofin is a small island off the coast of Connemara. It has about 180 inhabitants. It is a special area of conservation and protection, with wonderful scenery - including walking loops and beaches. You can get the boat there from Cleggan Pier, northwest of Clifden. It is advisable to book the boat in advance at www.inishbofinferry.ie. You can get an early boat to the island and then an evening boat back.

The starting point for White Island woodland walk is beside Rosshill cemetery. You will see a sign for the woods just outside the side entrance/exit to the cemetery - to the left of the old remains of a church. White Island is a really beautiful walk with stunning views.

This is a great bakery in Clonbur village. They make amazing traditional Irish breads and sourdough, as well as sandwiches, pastries and desserts. They also do great coffee. They are only a minute walk away from the house. Get there early as they sell out quickly!

This is a food truck which does amazing food in the beautiful Connemara outdoors, just outside of Leenane village. Best to go on a dry day as you will be eating outside. Also, expect it to be busy as it is a very popular spot. It is definitely worth the wait though.
