Mornings

This is our favorite local coffee place to support (plus my little sister works there - ask for Bri!). They roast their own beans, have yummy pastries (including gluten-free options), have a great ambiance for a coffee date or place to get some work done (free wifi) and have killer swag. Their house specialty is the Lavender Latte. I personally get the tea and gluten-free pumpkin scone (my fave!).

You can almost see this place from our front door! They are a great place to grab a fresh bagel, muffin and cup of coffee. My husband personally loves their vanilla chai lattes and our family favorite is the Asiago cheese bagel. As a side note, their gluten free bagel is just an Udi's bagel. So if you're looking for a gluten-free carb option, I recommend the gluten free pastries at Old World Coffee down the street.

This place does great breakfast and is a local favorite! Think a mom and pop vibe with huge servings. They have great omelettes and breakfast potatoes, you can't go wrong with their pancakes or french toast, and their croissant egg sandwich is to die for! Also they do have a gluten-free toast option which is actually a type of seeded bun that is really delicious. It's more of a driving distance (but just 5 main away) or a good, healthy 45 min walk. Fun fact - I've been going here since I was a kid (my 4th grade teacher and her husband own it).

Food Scene

This is a great place for a burger and a beer - dine in or order to-go. They have indoor and outdoor seating, brew their own beer, and have pub style menu (and taco Tuesdays). Plus they are right across the way (just right there at the stop light of California Ave & Arlington). Side note, their BC Tator tots with a fried egg are a great hangover favorite!

This is one of our favorite Mexican restaurants in town! Plus it's within walking distance to Cinco (about three blocks) and the owner is just a good human being! We love supporting local :) Our personal favorites - the ahi ceviche, quesibirria tacos and the pozole (only available when the owner's mom is in town from Mexico - it's amazing).

Lulou's is an upscale dining experience - New American with high-style environs, an open kitchen & abstract art. This is a great option for date night and has been a local's favorite since I was young! They are a staple in the Reno dining scene. Open Tuesday-Saturday at 5pm. Closed Monday/Sunday.

Bar Scene

The Matador Lounge is less than a block away from Cinco. It has 2 floors and 2 bars, a fireplace and fire pits, a good sound system, and live music on weekends. The bartenders are pretty fun and can knock out drinks but also know their way around a cocktail. They have tons of tequila, probably the biggest selection in town. Plus rare bourbons, and a half dozen draft beers, with an emphasis on local brewers. The Matador Lounge is new so I can't say it's a local favorite yet, but I would love to hear how you like it!

This is one of our favorite bars! Think craft cocktails and small bites, set in a mid century style lounge vibe - plus the staff is wonderful! They open 5pm daily. Closed Sundays. Definitely my go-to for a date night or a girl's night out. The owner's name is Tyler and he moved to Reno from New York. He was a hair stylist and had a dream of opening a bar. We're so happy to have him our in Reno community. The Emerson is not quite as close as some of our other recommendations, but you can definitely walk there in about 15-20 minutes or take a quick $5 uber.

Cocktail Bar specializing in rare & sought after Whiskeys. This is one of my husband's favorite go-tos - has a masculine vibe (think dark and moody) and great for date night or guys night out.

A local bar with rum and tropical cocktails. This place is the perfect stopping point between Emerson and Cinco. It has a fun, happening vibe and good drinks (just don't order anything with the strawberry dust - NOT my fave). While it's not my absolute fave, we always end up here at some point, so you can rest assured that there will be a good crowd and upbeat energy. Open Tuesday - Sunday at 4pm.

Fun during the day or night, The Eddy is a beer garden meets outdoor hangout area with bocci ball, corn hole and jenga. Made from storage containers, it's a fun concept. They have different food trucks visit and dogs are welcome. Great for singles and families both.

Sightseeing

Within walking distance of Cinco, this is a great place to visit while you're in town (there is also free parking if you drive). They have a beautiful gallery with different artists and interesting mediums. There are lots of tables on the ground floor, good for meeting with others or killing a few hours. Great for families too! Also make sure to go to the top floor balcony and check out the view - it's beautiful! (If you look for Cinco, you won't be able to see the actual house but you can see the street and surrounding buildings). If you have affiliations with the military, make sure to ask for the blue star discount (I believe it's from May to September).

Within walking distance of Cinco, this is a fun shop to check out. Our 10 year old daughter always thought it was a treat to get to go pick something out. They have a large variety of beads, charms, crystals, and all kinds of different beading tools and materials.

Just a couple of blocks from Cinco, this is a great place to get local organic groceries, fresh juices (they have a selection of juice cleanses), and deli items. Side note - I highly recommend going to the refrigerated section and getting the mother of macro donuts. They are locally made, gluten free and delicious.
