Enjoy a cold beverage or an ice cream while sitting in a rocking chair on the deck with a full ocean view! Take some change to take a peek through one of the coin-operated telescopes. It's also a nice place just to cool off and take a look at some interesting gifts.

If u dare to-bc it’s a little dangerous (venture at your own risk, I’m not liable for any injuries, etc!), and, IF u can park (there’s a very small parking lot) at the VERY east end of the Seawall-it actually dead end into the Fort San Jacinto Historic Point, there’s a cool, abandoned/torn down building on the left a little way down the beach. I think it was a lighthouse at some point. It’s a nice walk down the beach (not a public area—-most locals don’t even know abt this). You’ll come to a large rocky area, you’ll see the bldg (or what’s left of it). It has a great view of the area where the ships go into the port but has quit a bit of graffiti so it may not be suitable for young ones. It also requires a little climbing & will have broken glass. Sooo, with all that said, if u go BE CAREFUL.

This is a short driving tour...you can walk but I recommend driving it. In 2008 Hurricane Ike covered most of the Island in a tidal surge and it killed/damaged/uprooted many trees. Sculpture artists have breathed second life into many trees by creating whimsical sculptures out of some of the majestic oaks that once lined many neighborhood streets. Tucked into gardens and nestled in side yards the sculptures are there for you to enjoy. https://galvestonislandguide.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/treesculpture.pdf

Beach Enjoyment #1

To protect our wildlife, to keep beaches clean, to protect visitors, allow a peaceful enjoyment of the beach, and to help avoid any unpleasant surprises, I have listed a few beach etiquette rules/city ordinances. Some will be strictly enforced, especially during spring break & holiday weekends. 1. PARKING: park only along the dune line and following ALL parking signs.

Beach Enjoyment #2

2. LEAVE NO TRACE: Please do NOT leave your personal property on the beaches (including but not limited to items such as canopies, shade structures, tents, umbrellas, chairs, towels, equipment, games, and coolers.) Do NOT leave items of personal property unattended=not supervised or looked after by a person between the hours of sunset-7am. If left behind, it will be deemed discarded and will be disposed of and the City will not be subject to any responsibility/liability. $500 fine

Beach Enjoyment #3

3. PLAYING BALL, ETC: It shall be unlawful for any person to engage in or play ball, Frisbee or other games involving the use of a hard ball or other hard object upon a public beach. Keep your games away from high-density areas where others are lounging so you don't trample blankets, kick up sand, or accidentally hit a beachgoer in the noggin.

Beach Enjoyment #4 & #5

4. MUSIC: music should NOT be heard by your neighbors. But not everyone is going to love your playlist. In fact, everyone has their own taste in music, and it’s not fair to blast yours to the point where you’re drowning out other people’s music. Or, in some cases, their own thoughts. 5. FISHING: don't leave your fish/crab/shrimp, etc. on the beach. Dispose of properly.

Beach Enjoyment #6 & #7

6. CAMP FIRES & CAMPING: no camp fires unless they are in a container WITH a lid. No camping camping between 12a-5a. 7. SEAGULLS: do NOT feed them. Some people think it’s “cute” when their kids try to feed the seagulls, but here’s what’s not cute. Getting pooped on. Don't reinforce bad seagull behavior by feeding them; it's also unhealthy for them. And don't fall for it when those gulls come begging: there are plenty of fish in the sea for them to snack on.

Beach Enjoyment #8 & #9

8. DOGS/PETS: MUST be on a leash at ALL times. It's the law. 9. FILL IN THE HOLES: If you’re digging a hole in the sand, make sure to fill it back up before you leave to prevent anyone from falling in and getting hurt. ENJOY YOURSELF BUT BE RESPECTFUL!

Jellyfish #1 & #2

When there are reports of jellyfish in the water & you are stung, here are some first aid steps: 1. Rinse the area with plenty of sea water. Do NOT use fresh water. Avoid vinegar, ammonia, alcohol, or other liquids unless you know what type of jellyfish it was and the best treatment for that particular type. 2. Remove any remaining tentacles. Protect your hands while doing this by using tweezers, heavy gloves, or a towel. Then, apply shaving cream or a paste of baking soda and water. Shave with a razor or the edge of a credit card.

Jellyfish #3 & #4 & #5

3. Treat pain with an over-the-counter pain reliever. If pain is severe, see a doctor for more effective relief. 4. Treat itching with an over-the-counter anti-itch cream and/or an antihistamine, such as diphenhydramine (Benadryl®︎). If itching is severe, see a doctor for a stronger preparation. 5. See a doctor if someone is stung in the mouth, in or near the eye, on a large area of skin, or on the genital region.

Peacocks!

Peacocks! There's a secret little peacock sanctuary {sort of a sanctuary}. It's down a dirt road to a dead end where there's a boarding kennel. Peacocks roam freely in the front yard. You just drive up & park. They'll come to you. If you have left over bread you can feed it to them--they'll expect it. It's free and just abt a 5-6 min drive from the house.
