Food Scene

Best Thai in town. Vida's is slightly more upscale, tastefully decorated, and Vida is almost always present to greet you! If you're looking for something to try other than Pad Thai, Kalliste suggests the Chicken Pad Woon Sen. Be sure to ask for mild if you're not into super spicy!

More upscale and $$-$$$, though the food is consistently delicious and the sushi is sustainable and fresh caught when available. The deck view here is stunning and the staff is more than willing to take your pic for you. Always grab a pitcher of their pomegranate mojitos! Yum!

Mike's has the best sandwiches and oyster po-boy EVER. Their Sunday brunches are also the best in town. They have an adjunct sitting area if the main area is too full. Outside seating also available. Fresh, quality ingredients. Usually closed on Tuesdays, so call ahead.

Best and cheapest slice in town! Their pizza is wood-fired and thin crust, though they also offer a thicker crust if you're ordering a whole pizza. They also have delicious fresh and local options. The Caesar is super garlicky as is their fresh bread. There's a bar or you can have a sit-down meal, too. They are open till 11 PM most days. We love to grab a slice and walk down the road to Bishop's Beach to watch the waves or enjoy a sunset.

Hands-down the best bagels in the entire state of Alaska. Their sandwiches are varied, they have vegan options, home-made kombucha, and a coffee bar. There's so much goodness here. It's a local favorite, for sure. So much so that they oftentimes run out of bagels and have to close early, so call ahead after 1 PM.

Drinks & Nightlife

This family-run business is a local secret-spot. They have amazing food, strong drinks, tap beers, and you can watch a game (or 3) if your favorite sports team happens to be in the finals while you're in Homer. Kalliste loves the Asian wings. Paul loves their fish tacos and says there's not a better burger in town. Their foodcart can also be found at the Farmer's Markets on Saturdays.

Essentials

Sure, you can go to Safeway (they're open late), but Save-U-More is the local spot that has it all. Specializing in ethnic ingredients and bulk foods, they also have a small sushi bar and a wide variety of kombucha.

Coming from Portland, a total foody-town, we were really spoiled and worried about not finding great spots here at the end of the road - but Fritz Creek Deli and Bakery (which also doubles as a small grocery store , liquor store, video store, and post office) has some of the most AMAZING food. Not just for Alaska - but seriously gourmet food. They have some grab-n-go foods if you want to pack a picnic, you can muscle in on one of their few tables, or take it back home. They have fresh bread and a few fresh fruits and vegetables. Kalliste's favorites are the chocolate eclairs and, on Sundays only, their apple pies. Paul loves their cinnamon roles and fruit gallete. Also: BBQ pulled pork!

Great snowshoeing and cross-country skiing groomed trails. We have extra snowshoes and poles if you'd like to rent them for the day. There's breath-taking views up here and well-behaved dogs are allowed on these trails.
