Our favourite small typical seaside village on that side of Kvarner bay. Its much more famous neighbouring city of Opatija is known for great architecture, a long tradition of wellness tourism for rich visitors and, for the locals, expensiveness in general. Our recommendation is a walk on the nice sea promenade which takes you from Lovran to Volosko village. If you want to visit Opatija, we recommend the Roko pizza (it's also in the Guidebook) and Angiolina park. This side of the Kvarner bay gives you a great view of the city of Rijeka, the entire Kvarner bay and the islands of Cres and Krk.

Lovran
Our favourite small typical seaside village on that side of Kvarner bay. Its much more famous neighbouring city of Opatija is known for great architecture, a long tradition of wellness tourism for rich visitors and, for the locals, expensiveness in general. Our recommendation is a walk on the nice sea promenade which takes you from Lovran to Volosko village. If you want to visit Opatija, we recommend the Roko pizza (it's also in the Guidebook) and Angiolina park. This side of the Kvarner bay gives you a great view of the city of Rijeka, the entire Kvarner bay and the islands of Cres and Krk.
Interesting to visit Beli the location of the Beli Visitor Centre and Rescue Centre for Griffon Vultures. But the island is big and has a lot of interesting spots and villages, not as nearly as urbanised as the island of Krk so you will have a good chance of seeing a flock of sheep or goats in the middle of the road. To get to the island of Cres you need to take a ferry from the island of Krk, so please keep in mind the return ticket, timeline and traffic, especially during the months of July and August.

Interesting to visit Beli the location of the Beli Visitor Centre and Rescue Centre for Griffon Vultures. But the island is big and has a lot of interesting spots and villages, not as nearly as urbanised as the island of Krk so you will have a good chance of seeing a flock of sheep or goats in the middle of the road. To get to the island of Cres you need to take a ferry from the island of Krk, so please keep in mind the return ticket, timeline and traffic, especially during the months of July and August.

The nearest national park which we recommend visiting is located in the northern part of our region with rich woods, a cooler temperature and an easy walk to the top where you can enjoy the mountain scenery. We would recommend a slightly longer drive through the "old roads", via the villages of Hreljin, Plase, and Zlobin to the Fužine or Lokve, where you can stop and walk around the lakes.

It's a 3h walk from the Poklon location which is a great hiking experience (you will need hiking boots) or you can go with a car to the very top and just admire the view. The view is really spectacular because you can see both sides of the mountain and two regions at the same time (Kvarner and Istra region).

Within a Campsite, pretty crowded during the months of July and August, it's our preferred local beach. Our recommendation would be a walk from the Kačjak beach to the city of Crikvenica along the sea promenade, and then a rest stop in the Toš Pastry shop (also in the Guidebook). You can then continue walking further to the next village of Selce, which is about an 8 km route in total. The route is also nice for bikes but only in the months of May, maybe June and September.
