Dalwhinnie Distillery is home to a famous Highland Single Malt Whisky renowned for its gentle flavours accentuated with notes of heather honey, citrus, vanilla and sweet malt. The site of the distillery was chosen for its access to clear spring water and abundant peat from the surrounding bogs. Set in splendid mountain scenery at the heart of the Cairngorm National Park, Dalwhinnie is the highest distillery in Scotland at 1164 feet above sea level. The name Dalwhinnie is derived from the Gaelic language, meaning ‘meeting place’, referring to the meeting of ancient cattle drovers' routes through the mountains.

This small and historic distillery is located in the charming coast town of Oban. Oban Distillery takes it name from the town where the Highlands meet the Islands and nestles below the steep cliff that overlooks Oban. This coastal location is accurately reflected by the character of the Oban 14 year old single malt whisky. Visit Oban Distillery, meet our knowledgeable guides and learn about the ancient art of distilling, then enjoy a complimentary dram of the Oban 14 year old West Highland Malt. Oban Distillery is both one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland and one of the smallest with just two pot stills. Pre-dating the town of Oban, it was originally established in 1794 by brothers John and Hugh Stevenson. It underwent a refurbishment in the 1890s and there has been little change to the present buildings since then. The distillery’s tours offer visitors the chance to witness the traditional craftsmanship of whisky production first-hand before enjoying complimentary drams of the Oban 14 year old West Highland Malt.

Our a la carte menu offers a wide choice, perhaps start with a large portion of Inverawe smoked Salmon with capers and red onion: the smoky flavour is strong and peaty and offset by the delicate texture of the fish. Alternatively, what about a crispy baked Goats cheese parcel with red onion & balsamic chutney served with a roast vine tomato salad or Salt & Pepper Squid served with our homemade chilli dip. This can be followed by a delicious pan fried fillet of Seabass served with sautéed new potatoes, seasonal greens and a pink Peppercorn & lemon dressing or Breast of Farmhouse chicken with a sundried tomato, roast pepper and chorizo risotto finished with basil oil. You can also enjoy a steak from our char-grill menu. The meat has been aged for 28 days. We are proud members of the Scotch Beef club and all our venison comes from Glenfinnan Estate. Duncan’s classic French training shines through in his dishes. He particularly enjoys creating specialty signature dishes using local produce such as Venison, wild mushrooms, scallops, langoustines and fish from the local fishmonger. Desserts have a unique quality and style about them: Homemade Sticky Toffee Pudding with butterscotch sauce and vanilla ice cream or a trio of chocolate desserts. If you prefer something savoury, then there’s a fine choice of Scottish Cheese. Later enjoy a dram or coffee in the Drawing room, hall or the cosy bar.

Allowing the sea loch and mountain views to take centre stage alongside our simple yet elegant seafood dishes, our café is designed modest and unamusing, featuring original sculpture by Heather M Cumming. With large windows to provide stunning Highland views from many tables. Live shellfish for our family run Restaurant and Deli is kept in seawater tanks in the adjacent worldwide shellfish distribution centre. After being caught locally by our own fishing boats, the shellfish is stored in these tanks, where the water is pumped continuously from the cold clean sea-loch on our shore. This allows our Chefs to access the freshest possible west coast seafood for the Restaurant and our Deli before exported to various UK and global fish-markets. From tanks to table our seafood cannot get any fresher than cooked to order fresh from the water, offering the highest quality Scottish seafood. The extensive shellfish menu incorporates fresh lobster, langoustines, crab, mussels, various clams, scallops and oysters. This is complemented by our daily black-board featuring seasonal & catch of the day specials, including fresh fish from the local fishing port, Mallaig, locally sourced meats and vegetarian options. All our dishes on the menu including soups and deserts are prepared fresh by our team of experienced Chefs.

This amazing feat of engineering raises the canal by 19m (62ft) over a quarter of a mile of continuous masonry and takes around 90 minutes for a boat to travel up or down the locks. Built by Thomas Telford between 1803 and 1822, it is the longest staircase lock in Scotland. An ideal location for enjoy ‘gongoozling’ the boats as they travel up and down the lock flight! A perfect spot for relaxing and enjoying the country, it also has plenty to offer anyone looking for more adventure. Part of the Great Glen Way route, it has plenty of walking and cycling paths. Hire a bike from Rockhopper Hire Hub and explore the traffic-free towpaths, or take to the sheltered waters of the canal in a canoe or kayak. If you want to go further afield, the West Highland train line stops in Banavie. It’ll take you anywhere you’d like to go between Fort William and Mallaig. With views of the Great Glen at every turn, it beats any other commute in the country hands down. Starting from Fort William, you could even take a journey on the ‘Hogwarts Express’ – also known as the Jacobite Steam Train. It’s a magical journey whether or not you’re a Harry Potter fan.

Glencoe was also the scene of one of Scotland’s most shocking massacres. As you gaze at the haunting hills, you notice the Glen is eerily silent. In the 17th century one of the worst acts of betrayal occurred here. Your guide will recount the details of this betrayal for you. You can almost feel the sorrow in the mountains of the ‘weeping valley’. Above all though, Glencoe is one of Scotland’s most beautiful landscapes. A highlight of any tour to the Scottish Highlands!

Glen Nevis and Steall Falls is a stunning walk in the mountains and is a must for visitors to Fort William. What a great walk this is - the scenery is fantastic and changes as you progress through the walk. It’s not a long hike at all and not strenuous so good even for non-hikers! From Fort William you take the road to Glen Nevis and go past the Ben Nevis visitor centre. Keep going for another 10 minutes, over the river and onto a single-track road. Just when you think you may have gone the wrong way there is a small car park at the end. The walk takes you through woods on a rocky track (wear hiking boots if you can). You can hear water throughout the walk but it’s only after about 30 mins that you see it rushing through the canyon. The walk then opens out into a plateau and you then see the waterfall in the distance.
