A must see. The castle is used by the Queen and her family for weekends and if you are lucky you may see her whilst walking around the gardens!. You can see the changing of the guard, visit St Georges Chapel. The state rooms are incredible. Our particular favourite is Queen Mary's Doll's house. If you only observe the castle from the outside be sure to be at the top of Prescott Street for the changing of the card at 11.00am. It's free and you won't be disappointed. Windsor also has a good range of bistros and cafes. You can drive (approx 30 mins) or go by train.

Great walking throughout Cookham and Cookham Dean. If you walk along river from Cookham Village toward Bourne End you will come across the Bounty Pub (you can only visit by foot or boat and it's dog friendly). If you follow the path along you can walk across the moor to the top of the Hill and look down on Cookham, Bourne End and Marlow. In the heart of the Dean there 3 great pubs/restaurants. Uncle Tom's Cabin - a small local pub with a delightful garden and great food and local beers. The Jolly Farmer - a lovely local with a large garden and play area for children - super wood fired pizzas, gelato and excellent pub grub. Sanctum on the Green - tucked away in the corner of the green. Delightful gardens and pool! Super restaurant. The St John the Baptist Church is located opposit the the Jolly Farmer.

This is a quaint English Village and if you drive through you will most probably recognise it! Numerous films have been filmed here including 101 Dalmatians (and by some miracle is actually snowed for the snow scene at the end!). Midsomer Murders etc. The Pub, the Stag and Huntsman is worth a visit. Also if you like walking there are plenty of walks and paths.

This is my favourite Spa in the UK! It's around 45 - 50 mins drive but worth spending the day. They have the most amazing selection of pools, steam rooms, saunas etc but the Celestial Floatation is off the scale. You book your "Float" and spend 20 mins floating in the salt water under the celestial ceiling. The current takes you gently around and it's just so so relaxing - heavenly! I have been going to Higginson Park since I was a child (obviously it's changed a lot!!!). A lovely walk by the river, feed the ducks or walk along the two path to Hurley and visit Hurley Lock (approx 30 mins). A great park for the children, slides, swings, rope ladders etc. A café that sells fabulous pizza, panni's and delicious coffee or pop over the road for the traditional afternoon tea at Burgers Café. In June it hosts the fun fair for the weekend which used to be part of the Marlow Regatta but has now become a fun get together for the town.

Great for walking with children or dogs. If you drive out of Marlow towards Frieth you will find the sign to Marlow Common (approx 1 mile from Bovingdon Green). The Common was used as a practise ground in WW2 and is full of trenches which is great fun for children and dogs to run through. In May if you walk to the far end of the Common the Bluebells are amazing.

High Wycombe: Everyone will enjoy this unique family adventure, which begins at the imposing flint entrance, built to look like a Gothic church, which stands high above West Wycombe and the valley. There is so much to discover along the way, from 18th century tools, to details of the Hell Fire Club, formed by Sir Dashwood. When you reach your final destination of the Inner Temple, you will be several hundred feet below the church with its golden ball on the top of the hill! There is a gift shop and cafe serving homemade cakes, cream teas, and light snacks. In addition you can enjoy a picnic on the surrounding hillside.

City/town information

A small town nestled on the River Thames between Marlow and Henley on Thames. Marlow is a vibrant and pretty town. Higginson Park has a lovely play ground, cafe and you can walk along the two path to Hurley lock which is a lovely level walk. There are lots of shops and restaurants to explore. Do walk along to the Lock or visit the Two Brewers which is hidden away from the High Street and well worth a visit. There is a branch line railway which runs to Bourne End, Cookham and then onto Maidenhead. Marlow is also famous for the UK's only 5 Olympic Gold Medallist - Sir Steve Redgrave and you will see the schools practising on the Thames if you stroll across the bridge. You can hire small river boats to go to Hurley which is a really pleasant trip on a nice day. The bridge was built by William Tierney Clark and is a replica of the Bridge in Budapest Hungary (although ours is a little smaller!). The Queen is forbidden to stop in Marlow as Oliver Cromwell stayed here and around the area you will see lots of properties named after Cromwell. Marlow is also famous for Mary Shelly who had conceived the idea for her novel, Frankenstein during a previous summer and during some time in Marlow she completed writing it. My home town and a very special place. A good range of shops and lots and lots of restaurants and pubs. Marlow boasts 2 Michelin Star Chefs: Tom Kerridge with The Hand is Flowers (often booked months in advance) BUT also The Coach where no bookings are allowed (except during Covid where you can call at 9.00am to reserve a table. Atul Kochhar has Sindhu a Michelin starred Indian Restaurant and you won't be disappointed. Sindhu is located in the Compleat Angler Hotel. This is the Hotel on the banks of the Thames by Marlow Bridge. The Hotel also has it's own restaurant and it's a great place to sip Pimm's on the lawn or take afternoon tea. Another must visit is Burgers an artisan bakery that has been in the town for over 70 years and is still run by the same family.
