Restaurants & Cafes within Walking Distance

Biku is almost a Bali institution, a delightful Cafe with a great range of Western and Indonesian food at really reasonable prices. Its a cool retreat from heat outside. They have great breakfasts too, big range of teas and coffee and make a lovely High Tea for special occasions. I especially like the indonesian curry which is about $6 or 60,000 rupiah. Prices are really reasonable. Its a 100 metre walk out the door of the Apartment

If you love all things Bali this is a great place to wander and choose from an endless range of clothing, homewares, childrens wear, shoes jewellery handbags, just about everything shoppers love to find in Bali. I like it because the shops are in cool laneways with covered rooftops, and the owners will always love to bargain for a good price. But please be fair and courteous because often they only make the smallest profit, so its nice to come to a mutual pleasing price for you both. From here you can also wander back into the main Seminyak shopping area, cut down Jl Kayu Jati which will bring you back to the temple and around the corner from the Apartment once again.

Sightseeing

A short walk down Jalan Petitinget to the Temple, its an interesting place to visit as there's always something going on, ceremonies celebrations. There are in fact three different temples all together that serve the local community. There is a charge to go into the Main Temple and a sarong is required for the ladies. The ticket box at the entrance will advise what is required, its about 50,000 Rupiah per person, and they will provide the sarong. It is believed that there is a box inside the temple buried that houses the evil spirit that once inhabited the area hundreds of years ago. top at the main Temple stairway. Petitinget temples are known as sea temples that guard the perimeters of the islands and is believed to date back to the 15th century. They're built of handmade red bricks and sandstone. Up the Dragon staircase is a vast courtyard where there are a dozen different shrines and small pavilions draped in chequered cloth. You may be lucky and see a ceremony in progress as most days there is a one taking place with many worshippers coming and going. To the right of the stairways notice all the offerings of Canang Sari, made twice per day and seen on every street, doorway or shrine. These offerings have strict rules of preparation. Ladies should make them facing towards Mt Agung and the colours must be placed in a set pattern of directions. Red to the south for Lord Brahma Blue or green to the north for Wisnu Yellow to the east for Shiva White to the south for Iswara Canang Sari represents harmony and balance in everyday lives. With your back to the stairs, please walk through the car park towards the seafront and up the stairs through the tall stone gates of heaven over the bridge and stop at the end of the promenade.

Before you walk around to see the front of the Masceti Temple Stop here to take photos of Bhuto Ijo statue looking fearsome sitting high in the lovely garden surrounds. But don't go into the garden area, the best photos are from right here on the corner. Bhuto Ijo was not always a good spirit, way back in time he was known as a creepy giant causing havoc in the surrounds. Finally, the spirit Pedada Wawu Rauh convinced Bhuto Ijo to guard the box that contains the evil spirits of the area, and he was given great strength and since that time has guarded the temple warding off attackers and any evil who might pass by these Temples. Bhuto Ijo is now the icon in Seminyak and Petitinget Temples always protecting and making sure the temples stand strong. There is also room on the north side of the garden for the statue of Penanda Wawu Rauh which will eventually be placed there just to be sure that Bhutof Ijo remembers his job. When you're ready, continue walking making a left turn to skirt around the outside of the temples.
