1640年頃、昔の花街の入り口に設置された木造の大きな門です。京都市の登録有形文化財に指定されています。 [Shimabara Big Gate] This apartment is locaed inside of the geisha quarter in the past. (Now here is a quiet residntial area.) This gate was made to fence geishas so that they can not go outside in 1640 and is Kyoto City's cultural property.

1688年にできた置屋兼揚屋が今でも残っています。昔太夫や芸妓さんなどがいたようです。現在もお茶屋さんとして営業しているため通常中には入れませんが、時々一般公開されることもあるようです。京都市指定有形文化財に指定されています。
