Walking distance at the Toco Hills Plaza, this bar is a definite dive bar. Popular with the students at Emory, it is one of the last places around where you can smoke inside. Cheap drinks, dark, TVs and pool tables are the main draw. You’ll need a shower and to wash your clothes after leaving.

Ethiopian cuisine in a little center of Ethiopian culture at Clairmonth and Briarcliff. There are 3 or 4 ethiopian restaurants in this shopping plaza and Desta is a clear favorite. The “tibs” or grilled chunks of meat are seasoned lightly with peppers and onions and garlic and eaten with your hands using sponge bread. Healthy, interesting and delicious.

Located in the Toco Hills Shopping plaza this place is a not much to look at but has excellent greek food and pizza. Their avgolemono soup is amazing, and generally love their souvlaki and gyros, and their spanikopita pizza. The Greek Festival here uses them for their baklava. Sinful.

Atlanta has names for many Kroger, and this one is the Kosher Kroger. It has been remodeled and caters to the kosher jewish crowd, but by far provides the most selection and best prices. This is my preferred grocery store nearby.

My true favorite grocery store here is Your Dekalb Farmers Market. This is the largest farmers market in the country and is about 4 miles from here. They have produce from 190 countries (there are 196 countries in the world) flown in daily and the prices are incredibly cheap, especially for organic and sustainable farming practices. Their selections and options for meat, cheese, fruits and vegetables is unparalleled to anything else you have seen. Chefs call it their disneyland. They are working on expanding it to be the largest grocery store in the world. The market is located at 3000 E Ponce de Leon Ave, Decatur, GA 30030. Wear a jacket, the entire place is chilled to at least 65 degrees.
