I really enjoy James V. Fitzgerald Marine Reserve. The local always say if you want to have a quiet walk go north. There is definitely less travelers/tourist in Moss Beach vs. southern part of HMB

Rent a bike. It is fun the ride along the coast. If you manage to come during the weekdays, you have the serenity of the waves to yourselves. If you do come during the weekends, share a smile with all other riders you will meet on the trail.

Get fresh fishes and crabs here directly from the boats or dine in one of the many seafood restaurants here. In addition to the beach, you can also rent a cannon/SUB here for fun.

This is a most loved coast town by bay area locals and travelers alike. I have not met one friend who has not brought their families to half moon bay and enjoyed the time here. There are just so many things to do beyond hang out at the beach. My favorite thing is the food. You may enjoy the views and many activities the public beaches and farms provide. You can go along the coast by car, boat, bike, horse, or whatever. And don't forget if you stay in the town, you can also hike in the hills (my choice is Purisima Creek Trail) nearby or just spend a day in the SF city as well which is less 30 min drive away. All are within short distance. It is very relaxing and versatile. Maybe that is the reason why everyone who visited wants to come back and explore more.

Be aware of weekends slow traffic.
It is not a surprise that this is a favorite spot for all SF locals who want to relax at the ocean front during the weekend. If you love the crowds, great, enjoy the beach with so many other happy people, otherwise, try a morning walk before all the locals shown up.

Always bring a jacket and a wetsuit
So many people told me that they are surprised by the cold weather during SF summer season. Yes, please bring a jacket even in the hottest season if you visit the SF bay area. Beach is comfortable but the water is always cool. Actually we got a lot of clouds during summer too. The best time to visit Half Moon Bay weather wise is the fall.
