Parks & Nature

The city’s second-biggest park a day and it’ll show you the world: Its most enduring icon is the Unisphere, the mammoth steel globe created for the 1964 World’s Fair. But there’s also first-rate culture and sports at the New York Hall of Science, Arthur Ashe Stadium and Citi Field (depending on how the Mets are doing). The rolling green fields also encompass a zoo, a boating lake, a skate park, a barbecue area, playfields, and a $66 million aquatic and hockey center. Last summer, wetland plants such as swamp azalea and swamp milkweed were added to better handle the park’s water runoff, improving the catch-and-release fishing in Meadow Lake.

Besides the spectacular views of Manhattan and the East River, this 12-acre Long Island City spot boasts an interesting piece of history. The manicured waterfront stretch is built around restored gantries, which were formerly used for loading and unloading barges. Families can also check out basketball courts and fishing pier.

Arts & Culture

JCAL is 1 of Jamaica's gems.Jamaica often gets a bad rap and is poorly stereotyped. Queens often gets overlooked and many are unaware of its deep rooted rich culture, diversity, talent and art. This historical center features a art gallery, plethora of classes that include art and performing arts. This is a great venue space to host an event. There is local art and historical art displayed throughout the gallery.

Shopping

This Shop Rite is probably the best supermarket in the borough. It has a small food court/lunch bar and a Duncan Donuts where where a simple hot meal can be obtained. The worst thing to do is food shop hungry. Now you can have a bite to eat first. Gets very crowded on weekends. Make sure you have a quarter on hand because you need it to release a Shop Rite cart.If you want to have a more traditional sit-down meal there is an Applebee's and a Buffalo Wings just opened.I've enjoyed shopping and also browsing in the J.C. Penney's, Micheal's (crafts), T.J. Max, Petco, and Pier One. Target, Bed, Bath & Beyond, and Famous Footwear are my favorites among the original stores (facing the highway).I've never had a difficult time finding a parking spot
