Ambria is the most popular restaurant in Katikati and many of our guests have enjoyed delicious meals here. The menu has wide appeal and includes some seafood, vegetarian, lamb and beef, curries, pizzas. The restaurant also has a good bar serving a good range of beer, wines and spirits and cocktails.

Our favourite cafe and a favourite with our guests. Right on the beach front, ask for a table by the sea. On a good day you can sit ourside. After your meal or coffee take a walk along the beach, a lovely way to spend a few hours.

This is a gold mining town with historical significance. There is a fully operational open cast mine call The Martha Mine which offers daily tours also a new Gold Mining Centre which is great for wet days.

It offers lots of Maori Cultural experiences like concerts, traditional wood carving, Hungi ( a traditional Maori feast). We can book these activities in advance for you. Rotorua also offers a huge range of outdoor activities such as mountain biking in the Redwood Forest.

The Karangahake Gorge is famous for its old gold mining sites, bush walking trails and bike trails. Bring your bike or hire a bike and spend the day riding the Famous Hauraki Rail Trail.

This Mountain is very famous and has wonderful walking trails suiting different levels of fitness. For the those wanting to be super active they can run or walk to the top of the mountain. At the top on a good day you will often see several hang gliders leaping off the top and soaring gracefully down to the beach below. For the less active there is a lovely slightly undulating walk around the base of the mountain that takes about an hour. The views from the bottom and the top are magnificent and you can enjoy either a swim at the lovely beach or a hot pool during the winter months adjacent to the Caravan Park at the base of the Mount.

This is one of the best places in New Zealand to see natural volcanic activity and hot pools.

Drive through the lovely Karangahake Gorge to Te Aroha for a hot swim in the mineral pool. Either book a private pool or the outdoor public pool. There is also a day spa here where you can book massages and beauty treatments.

These spectacular falls just north east of Rotorua are a popular place for white water rafting. It is quite a dramatic water fall and not for the faint hearted. If you are fit and active we are happy to book you onto one of these rafting trips.

Katikati is 7 minutes drive from our B & B. It offers several interesting activities. There are more than 50 outdoor murals or artworks around the town. Wander through the town learning the early history from the many murals that adorn the buildings. Then wander down the sculpture and bird walk that starts at the landing by the town and follows the river along the estuary to the Tauranga Harbour. When you get to the end of the walk, cross the road and enjoy coffee or lunch at Somerset Retirement Village Cafe.
