My favorite places when I eat out
As a good gourmet I would like to share with you some suggestions on where to eat or buy food in Venice. They are the result of my wanderings around the city over the years with my family and are based solely on our personal experience. In strict random order.
Marisa is an institution for Venice. My wife says I bought our house in Venice because it was close to Marisa! Of course it was a coincidence but I'm happy that we are close. Marisa is a very small trattoria that has always been present in Venice, far from the tourist chaos. In spring and summer you can eat outdoors on the Fondamenta with a canal view, in winter you are crowded together at rustic tables very close together. If you want to eat a lot, all in all good, and paying little for what they give you, this is the right place. On Saturdays and Sundays they offer a fixed menu based on seafood dishes that you will struggle to finish. The problem is that they are always full, so unless you are very lucky, you have to book well in advance, even 2-3 weeks!

If you feel alone in Venice it is definitely the place to go to eat, always full, it is easy to make friends with the diners at the next table. Decent cuisine at reasonable prices. Better to book to be sure of finding a place.

If you like meat this is the right place to go. Their meat platters, as well as being beautiful, are really good. A friend told me that he had a better Florentine steak than the one he ate in Florence!

Eating a good pizza in Venice is not as easy as it may seem, especially considering that wood-fired ovens are prohibited in the city. This brewery in Campo San Polo differs from the others by offering excellent Neapolitan pizza. Nice atmosphere inside in winter and priceless in summer when they put the tables outside in Campo San Polo.

If you go to Murano don't miss this trattoria. Hidden in a small Campo, it is frequented mainly by local people who appreciate simple cuisine but above all at very honest prices. It is not possible to book so you will have to queue for a while waiting for your table.

Venice is full of bacari where you can enjoy a spritz accompanied by cicheti but this place is truly special! Great variety of very fresh cicheti, excellent spritzes and selected wines. You can either buy a bottle of wine to take away or you can consume it inside for a small surcharge. The place is beautiful, the prices are very honest, it is always very popular, so much so that sometimes there is a queue to enter, it has only one disadvantage: you can't sit.

If you visit the Venice Biennale, don't miss having a snack at Caffè La Serra. A unique venue of its kind in Venice. When it's cold choose the tables inside the old greenhouse, in summer I suggest the outdoor ones in the garden. Toast, savory pies and good beers in a relaxing atmosphere.

A small bakery, like in the past, run by women. Delicious bread and focaccia but if you find the famous Veneziana, which they only make on special occasions, don't miss to buy it because it is exceptional, soft and fragrant, perhaps the best in Venice!

An old-fashioned trattoria where you eat well and at reasonable prices. If the weather is good they put some outdoor tables on the Fondamenta and it is really pleasant to have lunch or dinner while watching the boats coming and going on the canal.
