Tips

The aperitif at the Ormesini --- Every evening, but especially in summer on Saturday evenings, the Bacari scattered around the Fondamenta degli Ormesini are filled with young Venetians intent on sipping a Spritz accompanied by Cicheti and "chatting" with friends. If you want to participate in the real life of Venice this is a place not to be missed!

The view from the bell tower of San Giorgio --- From where do you have the best view of Venice? Undoubtedly from the bell tower of the Basilica of San Giorgio Maggiore. At 75 meters high you will enjoy the skyline of Venice from the island of Sant'Elena to the Giudecca. If you are lucky you will even be able to see the circle of the Alps in the background! A unique and breathtaking panorama.

The Santa Sofia Gondola ferry --- Don't feel like spending a fortune to take a gondola ride? Don't worry, you can experience crossing the Grand Canal on a Gondola for a few euros by taking the ferry that connects Campo Santa Sofia with the Pescaria of the Rialto Market. Tip: take it at the Rialto Market, you will find fewer people than in the opposite direction.

The Scuola Grande di San Rocco --- Venice is full of fascinating museums, but if you only have the time to visit one, I would definitely recommend the Scuola Grande di San Rocco. Visit the Sala dell'Albergo and the Sala Capitolare: you will be amazed! The pictorial cycle of Tintoretto preserved there, not surprisingly, is considered the "Sistine Chapel" of Venice!

Campo Santa Margherita --- One of the liveliest "campo" in Venice, frequented by many Venetians, where children still play ball and the elderly rest on the benches. In the evening it is the meeting point for young university students.

The red benches of Baia del Re --- A few steps from our house, the Fondamenta opens onto the view of the Northern Lagoon of Venice, this is a quiet place, called Baia del Re, where many Venetians come to rest by sitting on the beautiful red benches. Go there early in the morning or in the evening and bring a book to read, every now and then look up and you will see a Vaporetto or a rowboat go by. A place out of time in chaotic Venice!
