Food & Drink

Check out some of my favourite places to eat and grab a drink!
Best pizza I've ever had - and I've had a lot of pizza! Sit-in the newly-refurbed restaurant, or take it to go. The queue always moves fairly quickly too!

Éan (meaning 'bird' in Irish) is a snug café and wine bar - great coffee and sweet treats to pair. Perfect for sitting in or takeaway.

The Galway Experience

Looking for the ultimate Galway experience? These will do it:
The Galway market is open all year round on Saturdays and Sundays down by St. Nicholas' Collegiate Church. It has an exciting mix of food and craft stalls to browse; my go-to is the 'Veggie Mick' from the crêpe stall or Boychik's donuts - they're made right in front of you! Great area to grab a bite and take in the historic views of the 1320 Church and its surroundings.

Salthill is about a 30m walk/10m drive from the cottage and has a beautiful, 2km seafront promenade - locally known as 'The Prom'. Looking out over Galway Bay, the prom is a perfect spot for watching gorgeous sunsets and sunrises alike. The trail ends at the iconic Blackrock Diving Tower and is great for a rejuvenating dip in the sea. Tradition associated with the Prom involves kicking the wall across from the diving tower for good luck - so don't forget!

Cosa portare

Bring rain gear

Galway sees about 232 days of rain a year - which is lovely for the grass - but means you're more than likely to get caught in a shower or two. Having some decent rain gear will ensure you can continue sightseeing and exploring unphased.
Frasi utili

Galway is home to many Irish (Gaeilge) speakers!

Gaeilge (p: 'gwale-gih') is Ireland's native language, and is often spoken as a first language in Galway, particularly Connemara. Some fun and useful phrases you could try out and about include: Dia dhuit (p: 'jee-ah gwitch') Hello! Cén chaoi a bhfuil tú? (p: 'cane cwee will too') - How are you? Slán (p: 'slawn') - Goodbye Sláinte (p: 'slawn-cha') - Cheers! (when toasting a drink) Go raibh míle (p: 'guh-rah mee-la) - Thanks a lot!
