Felsted is a very pretty historic village that traces its origins back to the 7th century. It is located in North West Essex close to the market town of Great Dunmow, just 20 minutes from Stansted airport and with easy access to Braintree Freeport outlet village to the west and the country town of Chelmsford to the south. Felsted has two pubs, an Indian restaurant, a bookshop serving delicious coffee, a tearoom open during the day, a beauty salon, ladies clothes store and an excellent village shop, all within walking distance. It also provides easy access to the ancient Flitch Way walking track and Chelmsford City racecourse.

It is an important greenway and wildlife corridor and is very popular with walkers and cyclists. From Felsted you can either follow the trail westbound towards Bishops Stortford or eastbound towards Rayne / Braintree.

Chelmsford City Racecourse is the UK’s newest racecourse and the home of horseracing in Essex, but it’s so much more than that. The venue is also one of the South East’s biggest concert venues hosting a variety of exciting events outside of the racing programme such as concerts and festivals. Chelmsford City Racecourse opened its doors in 2015 and since then has gone on to become one of the busiest racecourses in the UK, thanks to its highly acclaimed All Weather Polytrack surface that will play host to a massive 53 fixtures in 2021 including two Listed Races, as well as the Chelmsford City Cup Handicap. By providing some of the highest prize-money in British racing, the racecourse routinely attracts some of the most successful and prominent trainers and jockeys in the world with horses running at Chelmsford City going on to win at Royal Ascot, Glorious Goodwood and many other major international racing festivals. Built on the site of the previous Essex County Showground, Chelmsford City Racecourse is the newest racecourse in the UK and just one of only five fully floodlit All-Weather tracks in the UK capable of offering horseracing all year round.

A traditional old pub serving great food and beer with a very large beer garden. The hot or cold Huffers ( a triangle shaped bap like bread) are a well known local favourite. The Compasses is a 5 minute drive away or a 30 minute cross country walk.

Felsted is a rural area so a car is the best way to explore

Stansted Airport is easy to access by car or bus. Travel by car takes around 20 minutes. There is also a regular hourly bus service from the village to the airport terminal. Bus 133 runs between 03.20 and 23.30 and the journey takes about 30 minutes. The 16 bus runs a regular daytime service to Chelmsford and stops directly outside my front door.
