The BEST doughnuts around. I'll forever recommend anything with their Bavarian Creme filling. Also known for their coffee cakes, rye bread , and finger rolls. You have to get here before 7am to get a chance on a good selection. You can eat your sweets there but the local coffee crew may give you the once over.

Really great food and the best baristas in New Ulm in my opinion. Cozy up next to the fireplace and read the local paper while waiting for your order. We used Lolas to cater our daughters wedding and the grooms dinner was hosted there as well . I'm a breakfast person so I like the fresh fruit and sausage chutney egg sandwich but the homemade mushroom soup and shredded pork sandwich is my favorite lunch. Checkout their facebook page for specials of the day and past creations. Yum.

This Mexican restaurant is a favorite gathering spot for our family. We celebrate a lot of birthdays here. Be prepared to wear a giant sombrero and be serenaded to if you mention a birthday. Free chips and homemade salsa, large margaritas, incredibly fast service. The Giant Beef Burrito Ranchero is my first choice while the Jalisco Special is a close second. Large portions. Splurge and order a side of the Queso Cheese Dip . Locals refer to this restaurant as "Plaza"

This bar and restaurant is a favorite for those traveling to New Ulm for sports activities. The Fettuccini Alfredo is always a sound choice and you can't go wrong with any of their made in house burgers. Personally, I could fill up on their old school appetizers. Breaded Mushrooms with Ranch for dipping. Delicious! My girlfriend loves their Potato Skins. Daily lunch specials.

5 miles out of town in Courtland, MN. A great little bar and grill with amazing 🍔 burgers. Very reasonably priced burgers ,wings, and fried delicacies( onion rings, breaded mushrooms) My favorite item is the Hot Mess Burger which involves jalapeño poppers and sweet chili sauce. ALWAYS get the seasoned sour cream for dipping your French Fries. Mark's steady is the Mushroom Swiss burger with waffle fries. I forgot to take a picture of our food before we dug in but Jen and Lisa hopped up on the bar so we could get at least one photo.

Sightseeing

Climbing the steps of Hermann the German is a New Ulm rite of passage. $3 per person. A great little adventure with fantastic views of New Ulm . If you're brave enough I think you can still access the top level through a little trap door. Open on weekends May, September and October and every day Memorial Day to Labor Day. Very nice playground on site with bathrooms, picnic gazebos, grills and water fountain. Locals like to use the grounds for graduations, weddings and reunions.

Schell's Brewery is one of those places that you won't easily forget. We've been bringing our kids here to walk the gardens and see the peacocks and deer for years. If you want to take a tour of the brewery itself, They are $10 a person and you can book online to save a spot. 1919 root beer available to those who don't drink. Sweet little gift shop with comfy sweatshirts and beer paraphernalia. Pro Tip: Bring some oyster crackers or saltines along to feed the peacocks. * Garden paths are illuminated by hundreds of luminaries on Christmas Eve and Christmas day Eve. A family tradition for our family after church services.

The Art Scene

The Grand is one of my all time favorite places in New Ulm! There is usually free live music on Friday and Saturday nights and the atmosphere is historic eclectic. I love feeling the music and watching the musicians up close. Drinks and appetizers are available. There is an art gallery on the second floor and the gift shop is next door. There are also classes offered throughout the year if you're interested in trying a new craft. I want to try the barn quilt paint class! Quite a few of my friends have been featured here or have their art for sale.
