Cross the mountain and head west from my house. Bovina is the next town over. After your gorgeous drive across mountain farm land and through upstate forests, the tiny agricultural hamlet of Bovina sneaks up on you. Not much to see...part of the charm, but its revered farm to table restaurant Brushlands, is the star attraction, and Russell's, open two days a week on weekends, makes a killer egg sandwich, and the Rip Van Winkle Putt Putt golf course (its free/donation based) will put a smile on anybody's face with its home made charms.

Considered tops as far as Catskills farmer's markets go, and probably the only one listed on the National Register of Historic places, this market becomes the town square on Saturdays from May - Thanksgiving, and is only 10 minutes drive from Five Springs cottage.

Pakatakan Farmers Market - considered the best in the Catskills based at the historic National Landmarked round red barn. Runs from mid May - Thanksgiving.
PLAY (Peace Love and Yoga) - beautiful yoga studio with giant windows looking over a farm and mountain valley.
Roxbury Liberal Arts - modern art gallery with openings and events throughout the year.
One of a handful of 'book towns' in the country, Hobart offers 7 specialized book stores in all of its two blocks. Plus the lovely British pub, Bull and Garland.

Just drive.
Once you cross into Delaware County, there is subtle change that sweeps over you. As the road starts to wind into the hills and valleys, you realize you have been driving for 30 minutes and have not hit a single stop light. Delaware County is one of the most sparsely populated counties in New York State. Its farm stands and mist covered mountain tops as winding country roads take you from one agricultural hamlet to the next where time has stood still and you have not passed a McDonald's since Kingston.
