Guided or Hosted Fly Fishing Trips "Your time on the water is valuable. Too valuable to waste on a guide who thinks your trip is about them instead of you. Our guides will put you on fish, improve your angling skills and increase your fly fishing knowledge. Just as importantly, they enjoy sharing a good story, lay out an exceptional lunch spread and generally make fine company. Some of our guides have fished the world over, others grew up in Montana and find it hard to fish elsewhere. We have guides in their 50’s and others in their 20’s. They are students and parents, Easterners and Westerners, musicians and mechanics. All are special and go about the art of guiding in different ways – and all are hired to make the most of your time on the water."

For fishing we recommend these spots: The East Fork. Access to the East Fork is at the first bridge on Moose Lake Road. In Montana you can gain legal access to any stream at any public road bridge crossing because there is a 10 ft easement owned by the state (the people) on each side of the bridge/road. Copper Creek is a great little stream farther up Moose Lake Road, try any bridge or public access point on any map, or ask the fly shop. Stony creek is a great little creek as well (our guests have been having a lot of success here lately), but very brushy with mostly small pocket water, but some surprisingly big fish. There is only one private landowner up Stony Creek Road and he owns about 400 acres and doesn’t much care about fly fishermen. Pretty much that whole valley is public land. Lastly of course, you may fish the Middle Fork of Rock Creek right in the back yard only 30 yards from the house!

"Hector Horton first discovered silver in the general area in 1865. In the autumn of 1872 the Granite mine was discovered by a prospector named Holland. The mine was relocated in 1875. This is one of the best of all ghost camps. This was the richest silver mine on the earth, and it might never have been discovered if a telegram from the east hadn't been delayed. The miner's backers thought the venture was hopeless and ordered an end to its operation, but the last blast on the last shift uncovered a bonanza, which yielded $40,000,000. In the silver panic of 1893, word came to shut the mine down. The mine was deserted for three years, never again would it reach the population it once had of 3,000 miners. Today there is no one living in the camp. The shell of the Miners' Union Hall still stands. The roof supports have caved to the bottom floor, the third-floor dance hall, second-floor union offices, and ground-floor saloon/cafe are about to collapse together. The company hospital still stands."
