This is within walking distance and has delicious pastries, and, of course, coffee. It was developed by the former pastry chef from Martina’s - enough said.

This diner opened in the 1930’s and still has some of the original art deco interior. The fries and malts are amazing. (It has been closed during the pandemic, but we are hopeful it will reopen soon.)

This is an upscale restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating. We recommend empanadas and churro potatoes (and everything else we’ve tasted). It’s also a nice place to go for interesting cocktails.

We’ve been going to this Vietnamese restaurant in Uptown for 30 years. Our favorite dishes are Potatoes with Mock Duck and String Beans with Mock Duck. (We’re vegetarians – I’m pretty sure the same dishes with meat would be amazing – but If you haven’t tasted mock duck, it’s worth a try).

If you’re up early, there’s no better place to have a coffee and scone, or muffin. or croissant. The quiches and soups and bread are also good for a quick lunch or dinner.

My family finds the best pizza restaurant in every city we visit, and for our kids, nowhere has beaten Hello Pizza yet. Pizza Lola is also close by and serves more upscale pizza, and for a little different scene, visit Young Joni in Northeast Minneapolis – run by the same owners.

Dare we say, our new favorite pizza place. It’s just behind Martina in Linden Hills

We now have a neighborhood brew pub - great for sitting out on a warm evening. It’s in walkt distance. They hook up with local food carts on the weekends, and you can see which ones will be there on their website.

An ice-cream store with some of the wackiest flavors you’ll find anywhere in the Twin Cities. The Crowening is a favorite.

another ice-cream store that’s been a favorite for over 30 years. There’s an outlet in the Linden Hills downtown. My favorite flavor is raspberry chocolate. The coffee flavors are also good.

Big Stone Mini-Golf in Minnetrista is both a mini-golf and sculpture park. It has Instagrammable pieces at every turn. If you’re here in the fall, you could make a day of it and also take in a winery or cider house or the arboretum.

Minnesota History Museum – this museum has so many interesting exhibits, but one stands out – a re-creation of a house in St. Paul and the different families that lived there over 100 years. It is a capsule of immigration in Minnesota and the beautiful diversity that continues to make the Twin Cities vibrant.

This eclectic Sculpture Park is a drive, but it’s worth it for it’s abundant and funky art and support for the arts. Since you’re already practically in Taylor’s Falls, you can also go to the drive in there for some great fries, malts, cheese curds, etc.

This bookstore is a dream come true for children, from the mural on the ceiling to the chickens and cats that roam the store, there’s really no more magical place – and you can walk to it. (Make sure you go to the bathroom and check out the mirror aquarium.) There’s a good selection of adult books too.
