A wonderful guided tour through an incredibly interesting garden, which has set itself the task of finding new cultivation methods for edible plants and fruit varieties in the interest of the general public, in times of increasing drought and heat due to climate change.
Miguel gives the tour with so much enthusiasm and heart. There are many opportunities to taste the fruits and aromatic plants of the garden.

Every Saturday from early in the morning there is a very nice market in Olhão directly at the harbor with many fruit and vegetable stalls, plants, honey, cakes and pastries, a huge hall with traders selling the catch of the day. Get there before 9 a.m. if possible, otherwise it will be difficult to find a parking space. Better 8:30 a.m.
If you feel like it, you can then take the small ferry to the offshore islands around Culatra, Farol and Armona. Here you have great opportunities for a day of swimming on the long, beautiful beach or for long walks with an insight into the car-free island villages.

The area around Quinta do Lago is very affluent with villas and golf courses. Here there is a nice opportunity for a long walk over wooden walkways in the Fia Formosa and sandy beach. The walk takes about an hour. On the dunes you will find options for restaurants.

Fonte Férrea is a small park very close to us, with picnic tables, barbecue areas, a café and hiking and mountain bike trails along a beautiful little river on the edge of the Serra hills.

The charming little town of Alte is around 40 minutes' drive away. In Alte you can spend a day at the springs (Praia Fluvial de Alte, Loulé in maps) which are dammed up in stone basins for swimming. Under the trees you can use the provided barbecues and have a nice picnic in the shade.

Nice café with a green garden and good sweet and savoury crêpes and toasts. My favourite is crêpes or toast (best with the bread "Pao Caseiro") with ham-cheese and who likes tomato, onions and oregano. Freshly squeezed orange juice is also highly recommended.

Various small, freshly caught fish are served grilled. This is accompanied by bread, polenta, potatoes, salad and usually also a drink (e.g. a glass of wine). The staff keep going from table to table offering fish. You can eat as much as you like. The side dishes can also be reordered. The cost as of today (2023) is only €10!

Flower parade on Easter Sunday
The flower parade on Easter Sunday is a real experience! The streets of Sáo Bras de Alportel are covered with carpets of flowers and, after the church service, the local men parade through the town with wonderful flower arrangements. The parade is accompanied by music and many spectators. The parade normally starts at 11 am.
