  • This is one of the most magical mountain escapes I have ever been to! The views were breathtaking and I woke to watch a sunrise sweeping over the surrounding villages and valleys. I honestly never wanted to leave. I would recommend this to everyone. Can't wait to go back. The best!

  • Fantastic location and one with nature is how we would describe Casa Bella. 30+ mins drive to San Jose and 1 hour 20mins from Jaco. Perched on top of the hill with inspiring views to the surrounding countryside, it was great choice for our last few days in Costa Rica. Jay's friend Cristian provided a warm welcome and some local tips. Great experience and definitely recommended.

  • We very much enjoyed the rental. We were welcomed by Jay's girlfriend, (she is very nice to talk to) with some groceries, which we appreciated very much after our long trip! The view is amazing, we loved the outdoor kitchen area and the spacious interior. We truly enjoyed the tranquility, and felt very safe! We were surprised that there were no mosquitoes on the mountain and how nice and cool the nights were. We would love to come back some day!

  • Jays home was really very special. Although we arrived late Jay made sure we were welcomed on arrival. The accommodation and view was delightful. Although a little tricky to find ( like most places in CR) the area felt safe and charming. The welcome pack was an unexpected surprise. The water was hot. The facilities and bedrooms immaculate. We have now rebooked to stay here before our flight home as it was just what we needed. Thanks Jay

  • We passed a week in this paradise. We were entertained by the monkeys twice during the week.... It was more like cirque du soleil entertainement they were jumping and playing on the balcony...we were very excited about that. Very romantic dinners on the balcony and it only takes 5 minutes to drive to manuel antonio, which we love. Nothing is missing from the kitchen, we went to the farmers market on saturday in quepos to fill up for the week. Lilli and Thomas are wonderful and very helpful. We had the chance to get a massage from Lilli and I also got a facial from her at her private clinic. Don't miss it! Book it in advance if you can! She is fantastic! 2 suggestions: you will need to rent a suv ( anywhere in costa rica its preferable anyway) and if you are the type that wakes up easily, in costa rica you will need ear plugs. We slept in 3 different places during our 2 weeks and i needed them. The nature is at your doorstep.

    manon2014-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • Incredible place to relax and have a few days of calmness and meditation, the place have everything you need to have a great time. Amazing the visit of monkeys in the morning :)

  • We are sitting in the airport having just left the tree house and we are already reliving stories from our 8 day stay! The tree house is exactly as described but you have to go to experience the view and the nature! The porch became our favorite spot with daily visits from monkeys and even a birds eye view of a sloth and many birds and lizards. We chose to fly Sansa to Quepos and Thomas picked us up and have us a little ntour of Quepos which was much appreciated. We then walked into town and used to bus system - super easy and we enjoyed to walk allowing us to slow down and take in the experience. The hike back up was often sweaty but after a quick rinse in the beautiful pool we were right as rain! Definitely a beautiful but rustic experience. We felt safe always but there was wildlife including scorpion (only once in the sink) and spiders so make sure you are up for the a adventure. We can't imagine a more perfect place to experience the jungle! Thomas describes the walk to town perfectly (10-15minutes).

    Rebekah2014-12-23T00:00:00Z
  • The Treehouse in Manuel Antonio was our favorite place during our travels around Costa Rica. A truly beautiful and unique location. We loved walking into town every morning and taking the bus to the beach. We enjoyed different restaurants in Manuel Antonio and Quepos, as well as utilized the local grocery where we bought beer, snacks, and groceries to cook ourselves dinner. Thomas was a gracious host and provided such an amazing place to stay. We even saw a dozen squirrel monkeys playing on the porch one morning! Thomas provided transportation from the airport in the middle of the night, as well as to our bus pick-up early the morning of checkout. What a great experience!!! Thank you!!!

    Sofia2012-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • Had an amazing time at the treehouse. Thomas is probably the nicest guy on the planet. He picked us up from the bus station and drove us to the treehouse giving us a brief history of the area and was very very helpful in recommending some awesome activities (you have to do the canopy zipline with Sufari Adventures!) The treehouse was something different and new. We saw a lot of cool animals everyday (sloth, squirrel monkey, white face monkeys playing on our porch, howler monkeys), but we also saw a lot of bugs. The treehouse isn't exactly your ideal place if you want a critter free domicile. We had plenty of creepy crawlies including a big scorpion which terrified my girlfriend...but that's to be expected from a house in a tree I think. There is a mosquito net around the bed, so no need to worry about bugs at night while you're sleeping. The treehouse is all open with screens for windows (not glass), so it's going to get humid and it's going to get loud! The sound of all the animals and insects was actually really enjoyable as I went to sleep, ate dinner, and hungout. The treehouse is definitely something different. Not as comfortable as your standard hotel room, but it was a really really unique and special experience and I would definitely do it again. If you want a unique experience and to just get the heck away from everything and relax, the treehouse is definitely something you should check out!

    Chris2013-06-04T00:00:00Z
  • Serenity now! I stayed in a few places in Costa Rica that offer a "jungle experience" only to find out that they are on the side of a busy road. This treehouse is the real deal. Waking up to monkeys, beautiful sunsets and rises, the sounds of the rainforest, and gracious hosts. I could not have asked for a better getaway than this property. Thank you Thomas and Lill for building it and letting people experience it!

    Matthew2014-08-07T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice experience. If you're not into adventures, then this is not a good place for you but if you are, this place is amazing! This place will bring you in touch with nature. Will definitely return to this place!

    Maria2015-05-26T00:00:00Z
Toll. Thomas hat uns auch super unterstuetzt, uns beim Bus eingesammelt, Touren gebucht, Taxi bestellt... Fazit: Rundum zu empfehlen!

Beautiful, private villa with a fabulous ocean view and a secluded, infiniti pool. Very popular villa with both honeymooners and retired people. It is a prvate subdivision with 26 villas with support from rental manager and other staff. The villa is almost equal distant from both Liberia - LIR and San Jose - SJO airports. I believe it is easier to drive south from Liberia airport on a straight, scenic and paved highway.
The 3500 square feet villa is on a very private, 2/3 acre lot with ocean and rain forest views. The beautiful swimming pool is partially shaded by a picturesque "Corteza Amarillo" tree. The villa has "Almond Wood" hardwood floors in the living area including bedrooms. The full kitchen has black granite counter tops. All appliances, pots, silverware, china and coffeemaker are included in the kitchen. The gazebo has both gas Bar-B-Q and 4 burner cook-top with ocean views. Master bathroom has 2 large bowl sinks, large tub, bidet and large windows with a view of the rain forest. The house a large, flat screen TV, amplifier with whole house, surround sound, speaker system. The house has 10 fans and air conditioning. The large master bedroom has a king bed and the second spacious suite has a full bath with two queen beds. The house is on a hill top with wonderful 120 degree views of Nicoya bay and the hilltop location gives one a unique sense of Privacy with no neighbor to look in. The subdivision is 3 miles from the ferry station but it is advisable to rent an SUV so short day trips to Nicoya, Samarra, Carillo, Tambor, Paqueras ( Tortuga island snorkeling ) can be done. Renters have access to a near by grocery and liquor store. The store also provides DVDs and books free of charge. Concierge service is also included. The "Roma del Mar" development has 2 private beaches and a private pier for fishing. There are numerous beaches close by (Playa Blanca 5 kms away) and a golf course at the Tambor Bay. A one time payment of $100 is required for cleaning the villa both before and after the rental. All day maid for cooking is available through the manager and a massage specialist manicurist/ pedicurist available - reservations through management. . The internet access and the router is free. Location Description: Playa Naranjo, Puntarenas, Costa Rica (next to Cabo Blanco on (website hidden) map), Central America. Fly to Liberia Airport (Code: LIR). Two hours drive from Liberia airport and 5 minute drive from Puntarenas/Playa Naranjo Ferry.
The neighborhood is private, quite and away from busy tourist spots with plenty of things to do in the area. Our rental manager has a long list of optional tours
  • We had an amazing time in Costa Rica, and Raj's palace was the best possible place to stay. Convenient market one minute away with food and booze, multiple beaches close by, very helpful staff, amazing home with mind blowing view, surrounded by nature and animals, safe, music speakers wired in every room and backyard, great place for watching movies... the list could go on and on but you'll just have to go see it for yourself..!!

    Scott2014-11-05T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I rented the villa for six days and it absolutely took our breath away! The view alone is totally worth the trip. Raj and Arlene were very prompt and professional in their responses to our inquiries and provided all of the necessary information before our arrival. They also gave great suggestions on how to make the best of our stay. We would highly recommend a pool-side massage by Anja, and eating at the local restaurants. Although there is much to do in Costa Rica, this is also a great location for just putting your feet up and total relaxation! The infinity pool is a wonderful amenity, and we found ourselves using it several times a day. Roma Del Mar's beach is also very beautiful, and because of its exclusivity, is easily accessible at all times of the day. We personally suggest a day trip to Playa Samara (about 1.5 hours' drive away) and Playa Blanca (about 5 km from the property). These are two amazing beaches, that you will not want to miss out on! Also, even though you will be reminded to rent a 4x4 vehicle for the trip, we urge everyone to not take this advice lightly! Raj and Arlene, you two are awesome! And we hope to come back sometime in the near future...thank you!

    Arwen2015-05-01T00:00:00Z
  • Raj has a beautiful villa that is very private and comfortable. My wife and I stayed here for our honeymoon and it was perfect for us. And Raj was amazing with suggestions and advice about where to go and what to do around Costa Rica. I highly recommend this place to anyone wanting to go to a quiet and scenic area of CR. My wife and I loved it!

    Jay2014-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • Wow! What a wonderful place. Every bit as gorgeous as pictured and described. We spent 4 luxurious days in the villa enjoying the infinity pool, the incredible view, waking to howler monkeys, cooking wonderful meals and venturing out for a fantastic day of sea kayaking set up by the helpful property manager. As others have noted, the driving in this part of Costa Rica is rough, fun but rough. definitely get a 4x4 and enjoy the serpentine unpaved roads south to montezuma (the waterfall is awesome, as is the climb), and mal pais and st theresa beach are BEAUTIFUL! We stayed here the first 4 days of our 2 1/2 week visit to Costa Rica and could not be happier with our decision to stay at Raj's gorgeous villa.

    Steven2014-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • My husband & I absolutely loved the location of this house. The panoramic view of the gulf took our breath away every morning and at night the stars were spectacular to watch. The weather was hot & dry with a nice breeze coming off the Gulf of Nicoya and the pool was the perfect temperature to refresh ourselves in throughout the day. We saw many beautiful birds and greatly enjoyed the howler monkeys on our daily walks. The new Aroma restaurant was delightful and the little corner store had everything that we needed to eat and drink. Local fish, chicken, eggs, honey, bread, fruit and vegetables made meal making easy and delicious. Caroline the local contact person was very friendly, helpful and more than willing to accommodate any of our needs. We hated to leave and will be returning next year for a longer stay. Thank you for letting us stay in your little piece of Costa Rican paradise.

    Christie2016-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Our 10 days trip to Costa Rica took a long time to plan, we wanted everything to be perfect, and the biggest, most important part, was where we were going to stay. We have two kids (12 and 9) and so we wanted a nice place that would feel like home. It's worth mentioning that it was also our first experience with Airbnb. After looking at some possible locations, we really fell in love with Raj's villa at Roma Del Mar. Before making the reservation, we had many questions and Raj was great at giving us very detailed information, that made our life easy and confirmed our choice of staying at Roma Del Mar. Like many others have mentioned here, the pictures are great but they do not give you the feel of the amazing view we had from the villa. Also the place is very big and spacious, and the pool is nothing short of spectacular. We could have easily stayed at the villa for the 10 days and be very happy, but when we did drive around to do some activities, (some who were greatly suggested by Raj), it was such a pleasure to come back to this beautiful place. A great home away from home. It is also important to say that the people who were there to greet us, Caroline and her husband, were super nice and helped us with any remaining details on sight. Can't say enough how we would recommend this place to all friends and family, in fact we already started doing so! Thank you Raj :)

    Fabrice2015-12-02T00:00:00Z
  • This place is a total gem. The pictures advertised on airbnb simply can't capture the incredible view from this villa. There is lots to do and see in the area but the villa and its community were so pleasant it was hard to leave even for recreational entertainment. The villa restaurant has fantastic food and the staff that assists Raj are very helpful and friendly. All of your needs are met here and all of your questions are answered. I would HIGHLY suggest staying here to anybody that is looking for that picturesque tropical getaway. Its more beautiful than any postcard. Thanks for everything Raj!

    Leland2017-06-08T00:00:00Z
  • The photos don't do this house justice! The views are breathtaking and look like they belong in a postcard. The house was very clean and had a lot of convenient amenities to cook & do laundry. Communication was quick and clear and long before we arrived Raj and Caroline reached out with great advice and places to see which were very helpful! We also enjoyed the Ziplining and Snorkeling tour Caroline set up for us and highly recommend it.

Santa Fe style home, twice in Architectural Digest of Costa Rica. Acres of gorgeous gardens, 40 ft waterfall, 20 min from airport. 15 acres of private forest. Internet access. 3+ bedrooms 2 1/2 bath, office. Beautiful kitchen. Driver available. Gardener can help take you to the waterfall on the property. Great local restaurants, look at airbnb guidebook. Early check in possible some days, $10 fee given to guard so they come early. Read the airbnb house manual for good tips, very important!
Santa Fe style home, with rare recycled woods. Acres of beautiful gardens, view of valley. Smell of jasmine and gardenias. 15 acres of included forest and 40ft waterfall, yet only 20 min to airport! Mi Kiva was designed by a famous architect that created very warm feeling by using recycled rare rosewood and other wood and 100+ year old tile in some locations to add texture and visual interest. Mi Kiva has a sensory surprise around every corner, and is super relaxing.
Other neighboring beautiful executive homes form a close-knit neighborhood. Safe, no crime. Many neighbors have purchased acres of forest across the creek/river. In addition to our 15 acres, the others combine to be some of the last original forest in the area so close to San Jose. Mi Kiva sits on 2 acres with executive homes bordering with similar lot sizes. There is a small bridge that gives access to the adjoining Mi Kiva owned property that has paths and is rain forest. Poas and La Paz Waterfall gardens nearby. With cautious speeds 45 minutes drive. Zip lining and hiking available on Barva, or hike the property.
  • Mi Kiva is truly magical, the gardens are magnificent and the architecture is beautiful. I enjoyed my coffee every morning walking the gardens and listening to the birds. We were sorry we scheduled so many excursions, we would have like to have spent more time hiking the trails on the property and relaxing. The deck off the back steps is wonderful. You really have to see it to appreciate the beauty. It's so much more then we expected. Our host, Gerald was great. He took the time to make sure we arrived okay (we were delayed and very late) and checked in with us before we left. We had a contact across the street in case we needed anything. The washer and dryer come in handy with our family of 5. We are already planning another trip next year!!

  • The house was great in a lovely typical town north of Heredia. I live in San Jose and this was a perfect getaway. The garden are outstanding, the house beautiful and the service offer by Jerry very nice, always available for any question you could have. Highly recomendated for people who want to experience authentic CR.

    Nicolas2015-06-01T00:00:00Z
  • Only a short drive up the hill from San Jose leads you to this large and very unique home. The house is a bit dated but it has a very charming feel of a time gone by. The gardens and property surrounding the home are simply spectacular and well maintained. Gerald was attentive to ensure we arrived and had everything we needed. A true Airbnb bargain.

    James2015-06-21T00:00:00Z
  • Mi Kiva was outstanding. The home is beautiful and well designed. Jerry was always available via the house phone to give suggestions and translate with the driver, Michael. The gardens are truly magical and it is clear they are given special care. There is a small restaurant at the bottom of the hill- a bonus if you don't feel like cooking. I highly recommend this place!

    Colleen 2015-10-02T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed staying at Gerry's place. We had a little bit of a rocky start trying to reach the guard and we weren't sure if we were at the right place, but Gerry was able to contact the guard and got us inside pretty quickly. The property itself is pretty amazing and has great outdoor space with beautiful gardens for exploring. We took the hike down to the waterfall on the property and sat underneath it for a nice cold, refreshing bath. The place is also close to La Paz waterfall Gardens and the Poas Volcano, which I would recommend doing while you stay here. Overall we were very happy with our stay!

    Keith2016-01-30T00:00:00Z
  • All around amazing! I was surprised about how much property and privacy you get for such a great price.

    Jeremy2016-04-08T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful home. Loved everything about it. It was a great experience. The walk to the waterfall was challenging but worth it. It will be nice if the place had cable television for rainy days and a printer to help your guess print there boarding passes to avoid long lines at the airport. Other then that the home is equipped with everything needed. Miguel and Mar y Sol where very nice attentive and helpful. I definitely recommend this place and will definitely return in the near future. Thanks again Gerald for this incredible opportunity and for waiving the extra fee for my father.

    Edmundo2016-12-05T00:00:00Z
  • Gerald was very responsive as my husband and I prepared for our trip to Costa Rica. He had us call him upon arrival to greet us and make sure we had everything we needed. The place is beautiful, tranquil and really does feel magical with everything to explore in the backyard! The location is great, especially if you want to go to the national parks... the property is close to two major ones. It's also fantastic if you just want to relax! My husband and I enjoyed our stay... we will definitely be back!

  • We had a lot of difficulty getting to Santa Teresa by rental car and ferry because of weather/travel time, however it was worth all the problems we encountered along the way. Andy's place is fantastic! Its clean has anything you would need and is close to everything although there are some steep hills and roads around. Everyone staying there was very friendly and helpful about things to do locally and the town is completely charming. It was everything we had hoped for in a vacation to Costa Rica. The beaches are breathtaking and feel very untouched by the rest of the world. You for the most part are completely alone on them so for couples that want to spend some time together without distractions it's great! if you can surf or are laid back looking to relax on the beach or hike a bit you will be thrilled! It's far more unique and memorable than many other vacations you could take. If you want to be social and hang out in the shared patio and hammocks or be alone with your honey, You will enjoy your stay either way. We would recommend it to anyone traveling in the area.

  • Just an amazing view. Beautiful place that I would certainly come back to again.

  • My boyfriend and I stayed at Andrews place! Unfortunately we did not get to meet Andrew, he was away at the time! We did however meet Juan who was extremely helpful! We also took surf lessons from him! It is an amazing stay! The rooms were spacious and we took great advantage of the shared-outdoor kitchen! As recommended, we rented an ATV! We made the hike up the hill once and knew we made the right decision. We took the Nature Air flight from San Jose to Tambor; then a cab from the Tambor airport to Surf Vista Villas! We loved Santa Teresa.

  • Wow! The pictures of the view do not do it justice. I extended my stay from 1 week to 2 weeks. The sunsets overlooking the Pacific are unreal, serene, and soothing to my soul. San Diego, Malibu, or Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica don't hold a candle to this view. It is very quiet and serene. Off the main road and away from the hustle of Santa Teresa. Locals are super friendly. This town is obviously a surfing mecca. Andrew is quick to communicate and accommodate. Crystal and Juan were also very helpful. My room was cleaned every other day. I had access to a nice washer and dryer. Internet works great, the fastest during my month traveling here. Showers were always hot. The beds were very comfortable. Here is the real skinny about the hill to the villas; I had no problem getting up and down with a Toyota Yaris (2 wheel drive) dry and during heavy rain (I stayed here during the rainy season - Aug & Sept). Juan fills in potholes after rain. 90% this hill is paved. I also ran every other day. The hill is steep in a couple spots but not a big deal. It is a short 3 - 5 min drive to all restaurants, grocery, and other attractions in Santa Teresa. Super La Hacienda (grocery) is a block away at the bottom of the hill. The beach is 100 yards from the bottom of the hill. Love The Bakery for breakfast. Zula Restaurant was a staple for me. Burger Rancho, Casa del Mar, Chicken Joes are all great as well. A local named Jack ((PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)) will deliver just about anything from local restaurants to grocery. Al Capone Delivery on (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN).

  • My wife and I spent a week at the villas for our honeymoon and we couldn't have picked a better place. The setting and location were amazing, set up on a bluff in the forest overlooking Santa Teresa beach. We spent the week beach hopping, which worked out so well as there were numerous beaches within a 20 minute drive. We concur with a lot of the other reviewers, get a car or quad for the climb up the hill and getting around town. We did end up walking up the hill every night, but we put up a sweat. This place is good for couples, family, or friends and we have already recommended it to others. Andy was a great host as he met us after dark on our first night and was full of recommendation for local restaurants and beaches.

  • Gorgeous place! The view is unbeatable. Everything was clean and convenient. Andy was quick to respond to any questions or requests I had throughout the stay. I recommend this place and town 100%. We hope to be back one day in the near future for a longer stay!

  • Great place to stay. We really enjoyed it, close to everything. Excellent view

  • Best trip of my life!!! My girlfriend and I came here as a graduation present for ourself, and we couldn't have imagined a better time. A friend of ours recommended we take this trip and stay with Andy. He was the best!! He was an incredible host, friendly, arranged our activities all week, and made us feel at home. This trip is a 100% must, and there is nobody else you should stay with but Andy.

  • My wife Valery and I enjoyed a wonderful 3 days in this idyllic part of Costa Rica. The room we stayed in at the ranch was ideal for our needs set on beautiful well manicured grounds and within walking distance to Heredia and to scenic countryside. Being the only rental space on the property provided great privacy and we enjoyed the casual relaxed breakfasts with Phil and stimulating conversation. Undoubtedly we would recommend this to anyone wanting a quiet "get away". In addition I had an incredible 2 hour massage from a very gifted masseur called Albierto which was second to none and incredibly reasonable. Overall a great time.

  • Phil was a very welcoming and helpful host and his place is absolutely amazing. Just a short drive from San Jose airport following his very clear directions and we were surrounded by a beautiful scenery and enjoying a very comfortable room with everything we needed. We arrived pretty late and tired and Phil straight away called for a delicious pizza for us and gave us our first papaya shake of the trip... Delicious! I would definitely recommend anyone staying there and we are stopping there again on our last night before heading back home.

    Sara2015-03-28T00:00:00Z
  • The listing was entirely accurate, and Phil is an awesome guy! He was the only host throughout my entire trip, and only person for that matter, who was able to give such specific navigation directions (which, if you haven't yet been to Costa Rica, is a nontrivial matter). His garden is wonderful, and his cat Gizmo is so sweet. Hope to see you again one day, Phil!

    Kenan2015-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • We were welcome by Phil, nice place, nice town

    EJ2015-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • What can we say, we couldn't have had a more hearty welcome to Costa Rica than this! Phil and his daughter are the nicest people and make you feel at home in a far away country where we literally just flew in. We learned a lot about living, travelling and getting to know Costa Rica and his coffee plantation resembles a peaceful and dreamy maze. The room is tidy and comfortable and we enjoyed our stay there a lot. You must be prepared to hear the two dogs barking though at night. Ususally they're really quiet, but it happened that we woke up several times at night. Nevertheless we would recommend the Coffee Garden to everyone interested in a nice, cooler climate, staying somwewhat close to San Jose and to the airport (by car 30 minutes) and being near a couple of volcano nationalparks. Thanks Phil and Kalina!

  • Had a great stay at this little gem near San Jose! Our host, Phil, was incredibly welcoming. We got in early in the morning, and he served us breakfast and brewed us coffee as soon as we arrived. He was super helpful on giving us tips on where to eat and what to see, and made several phone calls to book us cabs and check on local attractions. The room was clean, the gardens beautiful, and the neighborhood in a convenient locations. Would definitely stop back again if we were in the neighborhood. Thanks for a great stay, Phil!

  • Phil's private villa is the perfect spot for an evening outside of San Jose! The room is clean and simple, but has everything you need. The view and grounds are really the selling point. He has a wonderful coffee plantation to roam, and a wonderful view of San Jose that is beautiful at night. We sat on his porch, sipping wine, petting his dogs and watching the lights come on in San jose. Highly recommended!! I will only say plan on getting there earlier then you think, you will want time to explore!

    Chelsey2017-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • Phil is an amazing host. He's very accessible and full of fun stories based on his experience rich life. The property is very well presented and the room is awesome. Nice hide away from the hustle and bustle of downtown San Jose, easy accesible with a car. Would thoroughly recommend staying here. Thanks Phil!

WELCOME to Pura Vida Ecolodge, a unique 'eco-luxury' award-winning retreat nestled amongst virgin rain forest just 5 km from the volcanic sands of the Pacific Ocean in Central America's Costa Rica. It’s for new age travellers who are ready to respect, accept and embrace a different and more laid back culture than perhaps they’re used to ‘back home’. It’s for those of you that are happy with less and don't constantly strive for more more more, as we’ve tried to incorporate the ‘pure life’ lifestyle that Costa Rica’s Zona Sur offers in abundance into the design of our lodge, so it’s the perfect getaway for those who are ready to arrive with their minds and eyes wide-open, for guests that seek romance, beauty, fun and adventure. This is, as they say, the ‘real' Costa Rica as our beautiful and breezy location, at an altitude of just over 300 meters and with over 3 acres of private land, boasts stunning panoramic sea views over the lush valleys towards the meandering 'Rio Terraba' and directly faces the Pacific Ocean, Costa Rica's spectacular sunsets and the world famous National Parks - Isla del Caño & Osa Peninsula. The most magical times are the early mornings and late afternoons where you can sit back with a freshly made juice or a glass of wine and be a spectator of nature with monkeys, pizotes, parrots and toucans all frequently visiting the lodge and it's surrounding reserve. Pura Vida Ecolodge is a peaceful sanctuary to experience and embrace the 'Pura Vida' (Pure Life). You'll also love our large yoga deck, exercise and body weights area (with pull up & dip bars etc) again complete with another outdoor rain shower and a 'chill out area', all hanging dramatically on the edge of our nature reserve - so you can enjoy the lodge's valley, ocean and sunset views whether working out or just relaxing. LOCATION & ACTIVITIES - At the same time as being near local beaches, restaurants and other tourist attractions, Pura Vida Ecolodge's location is both remote and private and the retreat itself will provide you with all sorts of adventures and experiences. We have our own nature trails, waterfalls & natural plunge pools both near the ecolodge & on the edge of the Pura Vida Ecolodge Reserve - the easiest trail starts right by the ecolodge, with more challenging treks on the edge of the reserve just a short up-hill walk (300m) from the lodge. Your adventure can be as extreme or relaxing as you choose with a plethora of natural swimming pools, waterfalls and rock faces to explore! Whether you are honeymooners, a group of friends or a large family of 7, you will have the entire ecolodge just to yourselves. We have also planted lots of trees, so please be our guests and pick any of the fruits they are all obviously 100% organic! If you venture off any of the paths, take your boots and maybe a hiking pole. We are just a 10-15 minute drive (depending on season & road conditions) from the Costa Nera Highway allowing guests to easily explore the area with day trips to two of Costa Rica's most popular national parks (Manuel Antonio & Corcovado), stunning beaches (Playa Arco, Tortuga y Ventanas are our three favourites) and our concierge service can help with tours and boat trips, trekking options, scuba diving & snorkelling trips, kayaking, stand up paddling, surfing, hiking, mountain biking, canyoning, canopy lines and horse riding etc. The nearby village of Ojochal (just 5 minutes up the Costa Nera) is one of a few local villages hosting a whole load of fine dining and fusion restaurants or if you'd prefer to relax 'at home' we can happily arrange home-cooked 'tico' meals, food parcels (according to the season, fresh fish, ceviche and seafood all available) and fruit baskets to be delivered direct to the Jungle Villa. ECO-TRAVEL - Eco-travel in Costa Rica is your ticket to explore a plethora of amazing places that care just as much about the environment as they do about their guests. It's a country where 'organic' is as important as 'stylish', and the government plans to make it the world's first carbon-neutral country by 2021. ‘Pura vida' is Costa Rica's national motto, and for good reason. It's a real paradise: Our guests can enjoy the 'pure life' in some of the world's most bio-diverse jungles, rain forests and coastlines. The country's book-ended by beaches on its Pacific and Caribbean sides (hence the laid-back surfer ethos that characterizes coastal life) and inland, nature holds way: a full quarter of Costa Rica is protected land, from the smouldering volcanoes to dense jungles. In the highlands, farms and plantations produce delicious tropical fruit – as well as some of the finest coffee ever to grace your espresso PURA VIDA ECOLODGE FAQs: - WILL I NEED A 4x4 CAR? Yes, our retreat is situated 5km from the coast and the village of Coronado on a well maintained gravel road into the coastal mountains. A 4WD car is necessary. There is a convenience store or “soda" as they are called in Costa Rica, at the Coronado junction, where you can get the majority of your groceries and supplies. For supermarkets, restaurants/bars, beaches, bigger stores, etc. you would require transportation to the local towns of Ojochal (5 mins), Uvita (15 mins) up the Costa Nera Highway. Several taxi services are available but you cannot beat the independence of having your own 4WD. Driving time from San Jose is around 3.5 hours. Full details & directions in welcome pack TIP: Bring coins and change from the US or change colones for the highway tolls! - WHO SHOULD I RENT OUR 4WD WITH? We have been working with Vamos Rent-a-Car since we opened. They speak English and they have various offices around the country (Near San Jose Airport and Dominical amongst others). They will meet you off your flight or even at your hotel if you're setting off early in the morning. Be sure to mention us and Pura Vida Ecolodge to get the best prices & treatment. You should allow around an hour for vehicle collection and paperwork. - IS THERE SOMEONE IN COSTA RICA WHO CAN ASSIST ME WHILE I AM THERE? Yes, once you book Pura Vida Ecolodge, you will be sent the welcome pack which includes all the details of our housekeeper and his wife, who together with myself and Kika, will double up as your 'concierge service' leading up to and throughout your stay. Though our housekeepers are Spanish speaking only, they are very knowledgeable on the area and will be there at checkin & checkout and can help you throughout your stay with anything you might need. I'm sorry we cannot be there but you'll be in very good hands, Gersan & Ili are practically family! - IS THERE A BEACH NEARBY THAT IS EASY TO GET TO? Yes, in fact you are really quite spoilt for choice. Playa Tortuga is the nearest and possibly one of our favourites. Once down at the Costa Nera, it is just a 5 minute drive up the coast. A short drive further up the coast takes you to Playa Piñuelas, Playa Ventanas and then the stunning national park of Marina Ballena and Uvita. Full directions (including which beaches are best for swimming and surfing etc is included in your welcome pack). -HOW EASY IS IT TO FIND PURA VIDA ECOLODGE? Upon confirming your reservation, we send all our guests a welcome pack with very clear directions including photos of landmarks along the way. This is updated monthly as we aim to give all our guests as up-to-date info and recommendations as possible -ARE THERE RESTAURANTS AND SHOPPING NEARBY? Ojochal is the nearest town with a really good selection of fine & casual dining. You can find Fusion, Italian, Asian, “Typical Costa Rican," even a deli/bakery and a handful of great fruit smoothie and ceviche places. Further up the coast there is Uvita, again with a good balance of International and 'local' options. We include a full list of recommendations (both restaurants & bars) in the welcome pack. For shopping, you may wish to visit the bustling tourist town of Manuel Antonio (50-60 minutes drive north) which has souvenir, jewellery, and art/craft shops and many lively restaurants (we recommend a trip to Manuel Antonio, anyway, for the national park, which a lot of our guests do either on the way down or on the way back up to San Jose. -ARE THERE EXCURSIONS & ACTIVITIES CLOSE BY? Yes, yes, yes! Again, you can find more details on the Pura Vida Ecolodge web site, but there are spectacular waterfalls, nature trails and plunge pools right in the reserve itself. The surrounding area offers world class scuba diving, snorkelling, zip-lining, boat tours, mangrove tours, hiking, stand-up paddling, horseback tours, canyoning, as well as being located between the country's best national parks (Corcovado & Manuel Antonio) and a 20 minute drive from Marina Ballena National Park. There are dozens of picturesque, quiet beaches all the way up and down the Southern Pacific coast, with enough activities and adventures on offer to do something completely different every day! We can also recommend great day trips to the Osa Peninsula, Sierpe and Nuayaca Falls amongst others and an overnight option to Mt Chirripo is incredible if you have the time. For surfers, Playa Dominical has a famous left and right beach surf break, and waves 95% of the year. Closer to the lodge, Playa Tortuga and Ventanas often have good waves more for beginners or if you're after an almost private beach and wildlife experience, you can have breakfast or lunch at La Cusinga and then explore the different monkey colonies. if you're lucky you might spot some Red Scarlet Macaws and guests also regularly see lots of toucans and different types of parrots. The 10-min walk through the jungle down to Playa Arco is well worth the trek! -IS IT A QUIET NEIGHBOURHOOD? Yes, Pura Vida Ecolodge is the best of both worlds. While being a completely private retreat and reserve (both the house, pool and the surrounding nature trails) with it's orientation meaning that the property literally hangs over the jungle canopy on one side and directly faces the Pacific coast on the other, you will have a handful of neighbours nearby in the slowly growing community if you wanted a friendly chat or even some more tips on the area. -IS THERE A GROCERY STORE NEARBY? There is a good little 'pulperia' (small local store) on the crossroads at Coronado (around 5km away) that will most likely have most things you would need. There is also a great fish/seafood place just 1 km from the Coronado junction. For larger shopping, there are two big supermarkets ( as well as a really good Pharmacy) in Uvita, about 15 minutes up the coast -DOES THE ECOLODGE HAVE INTERNET AND CAN I PURCHASE A LOCAL CELL NUMBER? Yes, the house is equipped with WiFi for internet connection and you can even purchase a sim card for around $4 (around 2000 colones) by the luggage claim in the airport, you just need a passport. Sim card is technically free as you can use all of the funds with calls. While cellphone signals have greatly improved in the country, there are some spots around Coronado that don't have reception but there is consistently good signal in and around Pura Vida Ecolodge. Please note that while the WIFI/hotspot is fine for emails and checking the news etc, please don’t expect to be able to stream movies as it's only 3G speed. -WHAT IS THE WEATHER LIKE? A more detailed description of Costa Rica's seasons can be found on the Pura Vida Ecolodge web site, but in general you can expect about 85+ degrees at the beach year round. The only difference in climate year round is that May-November is the "green," or rainy season, and December through March/April is the dry season. The temperature up at the Ecolodge is always a few degrees cooler because it is around 1000ft. elevation, and you get great mountain breezes. Likewise, because of its proximity to the equator, the sunrise is around 5-5.30am with the sunsetting at 5.30-6pm. The ‘Green season's' rains are quite welcoming, it's always hot and the partial clouds and afternoon rains are soothing. Typically the rains start on the mountains between 2-4pm, maybe a little later by beach. For us, the best times of the day are between 5-7am. The congo monkeys will wake you up, and it's the most glorious part of the day and besides you'll most likely be asleep by 8/9pm! It's amazing how quickly you'll adjustment! -WHICH ROOMS HAVE AIR CONDITIONING? Both bedrooms/suites have A/C: the Ocean View Suite on the first floor, and the Jungle View Suite on the ground floor. Please note there is not A/C throughout the rest of the home, but there are ceiling fans in each room and the Ecolodge has been designed with your comfort in mind, with large-open plan living spaces, surrounded by sliding doors leading out onto the wrap around decks which mean there are lovely fresh sea-breezes throughout. -WILL I NEED TO BRING ANYTHING WITH ME? You need not bring any household items as all bedding, tableware, towels, cookware etc are all provided. We also provide a wonderful fruit basket and some other local delicacies on arrival. Bring only your personal items, and of course a sense of 'Pura Vida' adventure! -IS PURA VIDA ECOLODGE A PRIVATE LOCATION? Yes, not only is the location incredibly private but regardless of your group size, you will have the entire retreat (house and surrounding reserve) just to yourselves. A lot of our guests are honeymooners and couples, as well as groups of friends and entire families. Either way, whether you are 2 people or a group of 6 with kids, you will have the entire property to yourself. - IS COSTA RICA SAFE? In general Costa Rica is very safe, however petty crimes do happen especially by the beaches or touristy areas. Do not bring any valuables to Costa Rica with you and especially do not bring them with you to the beach. TIP: Leave the glove department open to indicate it's empty.
The neighbourhood offers guests peace and quiet and has an abundance of nature and stunning flora and fauna. You can wake with the sounds of the congo howler monkeys and watch the sunset as the toucans fly right by the house. There are nature trails and waterfalls just a short walk away plus plenty of adventures on Pura Vida Ecolodge's doorstep!

  • What a stunning place to call home for a few days. Between reading in the pool or on the deck, making dinner in the kitchen with local ingredients from the store at the end of the road, and watching the sunset and the stars, we truly recharged. Gersan was a fantastic host on the ground, helpful and patient. It was convenient to be able to (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) with him about arrivals, departures and plans, and we enjoyed lots of gesturing with our poor Spanish :) His mangrove/deserted beach boat tour was a blast--just watch out for the strong currents! Joe and Kika were helpful, responsive, and took care of issues before they came up. It was a joy to visit.

  • We had a pur pura vida jungle experiance! It's a real nature introspection as you're in direct contact with the nature all day long (and night). The first night we thought that it would be difficult to sleep with the noise of all the animals in the jungle, but now being back home, we are definitely missing it !! Henry was a perfect host/contact and helpful friend. He took us for a walk to the center of the jungle and we had saw/swim in a beautiful waterfall. Having a 4x4 is really necessary. The way to get to the villa is a real road trip, you will enjoy it everyday. We advice you to arrive in the day, even if the way is very secured, the first impression arriving at night could be a little bit too strong... Haha! It was very easy to communicate with Joe. He was very helpful before our trip and send us a lot of useful information (the welcome pack is a great idea!) He did answer during our stay to all our request and question. We would like to congrat Joe and girlfriend for the design, choices of materials and deco they choose in order to set up the house. It's exactly like in the pictures, even better. We really liked it a lot! The concept of the whole house is smart and ecologic. We highly recommend the experience and the destination. Pura vida is one of those experience that you have to do once in your life.

  • We had a wonderful time and loved the house. Amazing views and such a cool part of Costa Rica. The rivers and waterfalls were amazing. Playa Ventanas is incredible. You definitely need 4x4 to get to the house. It's so worth it. We'll be telling everyone to stay here when the go to Costa Rica!

    Wayne2016-09-20T00:00:00Z
  • This was by far the coolest thing I've ever done. It was a jungle wonderland that we never wanted to leave. Gerzan (house manager) was super awesome and helpful. He even made us a coffee maker out of bamboo!! I would highly recommend this to anyone and everyone!! Seriously amazing. THANK YOU!!

    Julie And Garrett2014-07-29T00:00:00Z
  • This is a special place. A perfect place to unwind and relax on the deck with a gorgeous view. We saw many birds and a howler monkey! If you are driving go the short way. It is actually easier. 4x4 is necessary. The house is well located. Manual Antonio is an easy day trip and you can boat to the Corcovado Park from nearby Sierpe. We only stayed 3 nights and wished we had stayed longer.

    Mary2014-11-18T00:00:00Z
  • We planned our trip to Costa Rica two weeks prior. It was my first experience with airb&b so I was a bit apprehensive but the reviews on Pura Vida were so consistently good that we decided to go with this one. It seemed the perfect combination of jungle and ocean. The owners recommended arriving before dark however I didn't realize sun sets around 6pm. The first trek up is challenging and a bit scary so definitely do it in the daylight. The house is every bit as beautiful as the pictures. Our first morning we did the longer hike described in your welcome packet. We were literally speechless when we emerged at the first waterfall. We started toward the left and climbed through probably 20 waterfalls before turning around. It was beyond amazing. Not another soul in sight. There are dozens of beaches within an hours drive and they are all so unique. You could beach hop for days and never tire of it. The house is so tranquil at night. All the living room and kitchen walls are on sliders so it is like bringing the outdoors in with you at all times. We were actually so relaxed we had a hard time keeping our eyes open at night!! The owners were extremely prompt in their responses and the caretaker lives right next door should you need anything at all. I have already recommended this property to many others and we hope to return. I have been home now for two weeks and every morning I still feel a sense of disappointment when I wake up and find I am not in the ocean view villa!

This cabina has a king bed on the loft and bunk beds downstairs. We are located in a quiet neighborhood and great restaurants within a few minutes walking. This town has everything you need to live comfortably and also escape the busy city life.
  • Coco's welcoming spirit was apparent the second we arrived at his bungalow in Playa Negra. After showing us the cabina and introducing us to his sweet dogs, Nacho and Pisco, he quickly gave us directions to the beach, dinner recommendations, and a heads up on nearby daily yoga classes. Not only did Coco show us the short-cut to yoga the following morning, he also revealed himself to be one of many excellent yoga instructor at the Peace Retreat just up the road. (By the way, this yoga is "donation only" and awesome.) Whether we needed help with laundry, insight on a certain restaurant, or had a question about Playa Negra in general, Coco was equipped with genuine and helpful answers. He is simply a kind soul and the ideal host to anyone looking to escape to this special town. Coco's place, with the exception of the refreshing air conditioner, is rustic. As a family looking for solid beach time with no concern about luxury, it was exactly the paradise we had in mind. What goes unmentioned in the description, but really enhanced our overall stay in an unfamiliar place, was that Coco knows everybody in town and everybody knows (and seems to love) Coco. Whether we were going to restaurants or yoga class, telling people that we were staying with Coco only made us feel more at home in an already friendly setting. Along with the nearby and wonderful Peace Retreat up the road, Coco's Place is a short walk or drive from a number of delicious restaurants and breakfast spots. La Ventana is only steps away from the cabina and offers all natural smoothies and other healthy breakfast or lunch options. Kon Tiki is farther away from Coco's but their pizzas and charming staff is well worth the 5-minute drive. All in all, we could not have asked for a better vacation in Playa Negra and that is largely because of Coco's gracious hospitality, simple lodging, and warm spirit.

  • Coco is a wonderful host. Make us feel like we where visiting a cousin in Costa Rica.

    Antonio2015-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • Coco's Cabina was everything my friend and I could have asked for in our first trip to Costa Rica. Playa Negra is a quiet surf town with extremely friendly locals and pristine beaches and waves. The cabina itself was clean and contained every necessary accommodation from the moment we arrived. Coco also fielded any and all requests that we had and went above and beyond the normal expectations of a host. He recommended places to eat, drink, surf..and even came along with us many times and we had an amazing experience. Coco is also a closet Yoga Master. He runs a class at one of the retreats nearby and invited us along when he taught. I had never really been to an actual yoga class before but I had a great time (although I was wiped out for surfing that morning). If you are looking to surf, the waves at Playa Negra are second to none. Even for beginners, there is a milder break directly beside the reef break as well as other great breaks a short drive away. Need a lesson? Ask Coco to introduce you to Jorge (he will probably stop by to hang out anyway)! Jorge is an extremely good dude that hooked my buddy up with a board and 1-1 lessons for an extremely reasonable price. My friend went from seeing a surfboard for the first time to riding like a veteran in a matter of hours. If you simply want a quiet place to relax, the town provides a perfect atmosphere to hang out on the beach with the many friendly locals. If you're there, make sure you introduce yourself to Joey (a professional ukalele artist who also surfs from time to time) to have a few good laughs. At the beginning of the trip, I really didn't know what to expect as it was my first experience renting on Airbnb. Now, I can't forsee myself using anything but for my future trips. My friend and I arrived in Playa Negra as strangers, but left just 12 days later being on a first name basis with most of the town and gaining a lot of friends in the process. All in all, I couldn't have asked for a better trip and I am very excited to start saving up again so I can plan another trip down to Coco's awesome Cabina.

  • Coco, Pisco Sour and Nacho Libre (his dogs) were excellent hosts! This was the perfect place to kick back in a hammock and look for iguanas, monkeys and birds. Not to mention surf and practice amazing Yoga! Coco knows all the best places in town and has great recommendations. I loved my time in Playa Negra and will definitely be aiming to get back soon! My best stop so far on my month long excursion. Thanks again Coco!

    Kristin2015-04-29T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay at Coco's place. And we would definitely recommend it. We've been here for three nights and visited Playa Negra, Playa Avellana and Tamarindo. The apartment offers everything you need. Especially the kitchen was really helpful since it's quite expensive to eat everyday in a restaurant. The host Coco was amazing. He answered to all our questions and was reachable by phone all over the time.

    Manuel2015-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Coco's place was amazing! Perfect little hideaway... Playa Negra is a very nice beach and you will find some very good restaurants and cafes close to Coco's house. Coco was a great host ! Would highly recommend!

    Luc2015-03-22T00:00:00Z
  • We booked the whole month of June at Coco's place in Playa Negra. There were always four of us, but various groups coming and going. There was plenty of space and accommodations for everyone, and the whole month was a blast. With Coco's help, we went horseback riding, jungle tours, day trips to Avellanas, Tamarindo, and Junquillal, spear fishing and much more. The house itself is situated about a 15 minute walk from the beach, but with great restaraunts along the way and firing surf at the end of the road its worth the walk. Overall, we had a blast and Coco was a great host. He is currently looking to buy the land behind his house to build a tree house which we would all definitely come back for! Thanks Coco!

  • Rosie's place was awesome! It was very secluded and private, the house was larger than expected with the additional rooms downstairs and 3 bathrooms as well. I was very surprised to find geckos jumping around everywhere on the property. There is plenty to do around 10-20 mins down the street like ATVs, Ziplining, horseback riding, waterfall repelling, beaches etc. overall a very enjoyable stay. Thanks Rosie!

  • Rosie and Bruno were amazing! They were always willing to answer questions or help book activities if needed. Unfortunately, the internet was down for our entire trip but Rosie was on top of it and would help us book anything we wanted. They have some really great suggestions! Honestly anything you choose to do will exceed your expectations, so you can't really go wrong. Bruno took us for a hike around the property, which I recommend :) Throughout the hike you can spot many of the beautiful animals and get an idea of how big the property really is. He took us to their edible garden and got to learn about what plants to look out for. One thing I will say about traveling in the rainy season is that since it starts to get dark around 5ish, it can be very difficult to see while driving (that's usually when it starts pouring). Just be sure to plan out your day accordingly because you don't want to be stuck on a winding road with no street lights and heavy rain. We arrived to Esterillos around 9ish so we learned the property can be difficult to spot in the dark and rain. There isn't an exact address but just follow Rosie's instructions. You will need land marks to guide you. The whole trip was unbelievable!!!! I usually don't like to visit the same place twice but I would definitely come back. ❤️

    Ambar2017-09-20T00:00:00Z
  • This place is truly amazing and you can watch monkeys from the private pool. The house is beautiful (just like on the pictures), very spacious and has everything you need. The beach is close but you will need a car to get there easily as it is a short drive and across the highway. Rosie was utterly brilliant responding to our every need. We would definitely recommend this place.

    Linda2015-12-18T00:00:00Z
  • I was unsure about how this was going to work out. But the reviews really do not lie. And Rosie and Bruno were beyond amazing. The house, pool, outdoor shower was just beautiful. And the transportation Rosie and Bruno gave was just what made this trip worth wild. This is a most stay. Could not have had it any better. No matter what I needed or when I needed it and with much confusion at first Rosie was more than accommodating. And the sweetest. Don't look any further and stay here you won't regret it.

    Sasha2016-07-04T00:00:00Z
  • Es una hermosa casa

    Gabriela2015-11-16T00:00:00Z
  • Rosie's house is BEAUTIFUL and just as pictured - very clean and modern. We only stayed in Esterillos for two nights, so we kept saying how we just wanted to stay longer thanks to the beautiful house and property. The house is equipped with everything you could need or want and then some. Rosie was very communicative and even called us down to see a sloth since she knew our daughters wanted to see one up close.

    Kim2017-06-11T00:00:00Z
  • The reviews don't lie. Rosie's place is fantastic. Secluded, quiet, and beautiful. If you love wildlife, and your own tucked away space, this is the place for you. A short drive (maybe 2-3 miles) to (in my opinion) the best beach around in Playo Bejuco. It's the quitest and cleanest beach we went to. Rosies house is a 25 minute drive from the hussle and busstle of jaco and a 25 minute drive from Quepos, where other activities are offered. She has connections to people at multiple excursions and businesses and will guide you through the process of make your stay enjoyable. There was a minor maintenence issue with our stay, but Rosie and Bruno did all they could to remedy it while we were there, and I trust they'd be ironed out for future guests. Things happen, but they were diligent in fixing it. Our stay was still fantastic, and i was happy they went out of the way for us. I accidentally checked in too early and she was patient enough to let us put our things down and enjoy the beach while the cleaning was finishing up. The private pool is also an awesome place to relax and marvel at the wildlife. All around, I would definitely recommend this place and return. It captures the essence of Costa Rica.

    Darryl2016-05-23T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful modern home with a crystal clear pool and patio with an incredible view of the stars. Full kitchen, and AC throughout made it very comfortable! We had such a lovely time we extended our stay. Would recommend very highly. And Rosie was wonderful!! Her recommendations were fantastic, waterfall hike, national park, and black sand beaches close by. Can't wait to come back.

  • We had a great experience staying at Justin's house. It was clean, nice location, well equipped, and a lovely dog who I wanted to take with me. Justin was always attentive and helpful to answer our questions.

    Jose2016-01-17T00:00:00Z
  • As many have described, Justin and his wife Jessica are extremely nice. They knew we were bringing our 17 month old so they had a crib in the space when we arrived. They also brought us baby toys and books we could use while there. They had a lot of suggestions for what to do in the area and where to eat. The recommended the pineapple curry with the fish of the day at Los Almendros, which was amazing! We also enjoyed some local craft beer there, which was a fun surprise. The views are amazing from the second floor. There are recliners and hammocks on the balcony. It was a quick drive to the beach, which you can drive up to and park just about anywhere. The beach was not crowded at all while we were there. Close to sunset a lot of surfers started coming out and it was fun to watch them. I wouldn't have gone too far into the water as the currents are strong, but lounging on the beach was great. At low tide, there are tide pools great for kids to play in. The town itself is very small, and had more of a local/non-touristy feel than Manuel Antonio. There is no ATM in the town, so I would bring some colones with you, but the grocery and the restaurant we ate at took credit card so we had no issues. If you are someone who enjoys nature, and sleeping in the open this place is great. We left all the doors open to get a nice breeze at night. The views were beautiful.

  • Good place! Does get hot but Justin set up everything for us could not ask for a more helpful host

    Ariadna2017-04-13T00:00:00Z
  • Highly recommend! Justin and his wife are great hosts! Extremely welcoming and have great recommendations for things to do in the area. The view from the home is absolutely breathtaking. I could sit outside on that balcony all day enjoying the view (I did most of the time). The location is on the very top of the hill in a very safe area. I will say it's Costa Rica so it's hot, there are little creatures running around all the time, but nothing that should scare you away from staying here. This was the last home I stayed at in CR and definitely made my trip one to remember. Don't pass this place up!

    Karen2016-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • I had an incredibly lovely stay in Esterillos. Justin and his family were very flexible and could not have been more accommodating. They were great at booking activities for us and giving advice. The view from the apartment is even more lovely than the picture suggests!

  • Only one word fits the description.. Paradise! Best place I have stayed in Costa Rica. The villa is so amazing. The view, the house, the garden. We saw sooo many birds, even a precious hour glass tree frog come to visit us one evening. The hammocks ♡ Sleeping with the sound of the waves. We stayed for 5 days but I didn't wanted to leave. And if that is not already enough, Justin and Jessica are amazing hosts. They will make sure you have everything you need. Amazing stay guys! Thank you so much

  • We had such a good time staying with Justin and his lovely family. The place was gorgeous (I want such a house one day) with both upstairs and downstairs porches and an incredible view. We woke up to the most beautiful sunrise over the ocean we've ever seen! Justin and his family were also very welcoming and helpful - they took us to a great restaurant, made the jacuzzi ready for us, prepared coconuts for us and gave us good advice about where to eat etc. To sum it up, we had a really great time and wish we could have stayed longer. We definetely recommend staying with Justin & his sweet family to anyone!!!

Cabina Blanca - tucked away at the top of a gated community with lovely views of the Pacific ocean, the beach a short walk and the towns of Tamarindo and Flamingo only 25 min. away. Roomy, queen bed, private patio.
This space is a completely self contained guest house, about 15 feet away from the main house. With an abundance of natural light, this unique oasis is cozy and inviting with high ceilings. Although not air conditioned, the cabina enjoys an elevated position on the site and is orientated to take advantage of breezes. In the room, there are ceiling and pedestal fans.
We feel very safe in our gated community, tucked away from the "hustle and bustle" of some of the nearby towns, but still close enough to enjoy all the area has to offer. This relaxing atmosphere is great for bird watching and animal visitors, walks or just enjoying the pool. We are central to enjoy all the coast has to offer with 19+ beaches within less than one hour drive. The closest beach, Playa Conchal, is an easy 10-12 minute walk away or even shorter drive. It has gentle waves making it perfect for swimming and snorkeling. Playa Minas and Bahia de Los Piratos are 2 other beautiful beaches a 5 minute drive away. Matapolo is the closest town to us. It is a 5 minute drive away and has a couple of restaurants and grocery stores. Tamarindo is 25 mins south of us and Flamingo is 25 mins north. Both are an easy drive for taking in the restaurants, shops and services.

  • The surroundings, the nature and the animals was surreal. Super nice place and the best hosts you can get.

  • Wonderful place, kind hosts. Ate breakfast at nearby Condor Lodge Hotel, which isn't open during the rainy season, so plan accordingly. Only drawback, this B&B is located near end of very bad dirt road, 3 miles from tiny town of Matapalos, so beware. But the views are magical and the Beach nearby is a warm water treat.

  • Best place to stay near Playa Conchal. Kim and Tim were very friendly. The room is very clean and look exactly like the picture, nice rooftop.

  • Great place, comfortable and great hosts. Tim and Kim are super friendly. I would go back anytime.

  • Awesome time at cabina Blanca. Kim and Tim's place is located in an awesome spot walking distance to Playa Conchal. Tim and Kim were both super helpful in communicating before I arrived, answering questions and helping me set up my rental car. Would definitely recommend their place. It is exactly like the pictures, no surprises. The only thing I would make sure of is that you're ok staying in a place with no A/C. It clearly states that the place doesn't have it, but if you're not used to the heat it can be pretty rough. Overall awesome listing and great hosts!

    Erik2015-06-08T00:00:00Z
  • The cabina is perfect for a relaxing getaway vacation! It is nicely designed and has an awesome rooftop for relaxing on the hammock. The kitchenette is very basic, not suitable for cooking, but fitted us just fine. Also, as in many places, only cold water is available. I have to mention their beautiful pool! What a view!! The place is perfectly located minutes drive from all beautiful beaches. Kim and Tim are the nicest hosts! Always checking in that all is ok and being helpful and informative. Oh and their "pet" Doug is adorable. We would definitely recommend and love to stay again!

  • We stayed at the treehouse for one night and wish we could have extended our stay. The outdoor thermales were so relaxing. It was a great way to start the morning. Kathy and Bernie were gracious hosts. I will certainly recommend a visit to Bio Thermales to friends who visit Costa Rica in the future!

  • My 15- year old daughter and I were drawn to Kathy & Bernies by their treehouse and we weren't disappointed in any way. It is such a unique place to stay. Loved sleeping to the sound of the rainforest creatures and the babbling springs. The grounds are immaculately cared for and we saw some toucans and moneys while there. Kathy and Bernie are excellent hosts, very committed to their clients, was a pleasure to meet them. Definitely recommend this as a great place to stay!

  • You will not believe what a beautiful heaven Bernie and Kathy have created on this great part of Costa Rica. Bernie is a genius, building this with the help of just a few men. The treehouse is like a dream and the hotsprings are great. I am fobic of spiders but have not seen 1 spuder over there thanks to great cleaning. During the weekend it can be busy there, with tico's going for a swim but we went for the canopytour In the weekend. Best in Costa Rica, that canopytour by the way. Would highly recommend this property!

  • We stayed at Bio Termales for 4 nights and had great time. Both Treehouse and all cottages are fully furnished and spotless clean. The hot springs are very relaxing and there are many tourist attractions nearby - you won't get bored at all. Resort grounds were well kept and both Kathy and Bernie are fantastic hosts who made us really felt like at home. Kathy is great communicator, she sent us all directions beforehand and after our arrival explained everything about the resort and its surroundings. My secret tip is to get some Tilapias from Bernie and cook them for dinner. They were fabulous! Thank you once again, hope to be back soon!

  • My wife an I spent a wonderful week at Bio Thermales with Kathy and Bernie. We stayed in the tree-house, which is unique and provided a great deal of privacy. All of the pictures and descriptions were very accurate, so if you like what you see, you will love it. It is a bit rustic, but very comfortable and well-maintained. Kathy was extremely helpful with information prior to our trip, and she and Bernie were both wonderful when we met them. All of the staff were friendly, and Johan took the time to explain about the place and show us the full property. For those of you who benefit from thermal baths, as I do, this place is exceptional. I also like that, at Bio Thermales, the guests and the locals can all mix. The place is very family-oriented, and the presence of local Ticos contributes to a very relaxed atmosphere. We definitely plan to visit again in the future.

  • Beautiful place, just like described! Kathy and Bernie were very welcoming, helpful and had very good tips for the rest of our trip. Really nice pools and a beautiful trail in the jungle that everyone should try. We arrived during dark and we don't suggest arriving after 6, since it was harder to find this way. It was easy to cook ourselves food in the kitchen and it was very cosy to sleep in. We highly suggest this sureal experience!

  • David was a great host. He gave us great advice on where to eat and what to do. The place was clean and looked exactly like the pictures. It is walking distance from the beach and plenty of other places in Guiones Beach. I'd definitely do it again.

    Caroline2015-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • David is a superb host and the house is private and well equipped. The bikes were perfect for getting around to the beautiful beach and fabulous local restaurants. We had the best holiday in years.

  • Our TRIP to Nosara,Playa Guiones was unforgettable and David's beautiful home was a huge part of that! We rented a car from Liberia and drove directly to Playa Conchal. We had a little delay from using our (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) maps because a river crossing was too deep, so follow David's directions to go through Nicoya. We arrived late and David stayed up very nicely to offer food, drink and welcome us. He was very helpful to us and our three girls to show us the great places to eat and tours to use. His house is very clean, well designed and decorated very nicely. We stayed 8 days and His home made our trip that much more memorable. Cheers David!!!

  • Jungle heaven! Our time at El Arbol was seriously magical. Marilyn was so informative and easy to communicate with prior to our trip. Once we arrived, she helped us make reservations... (El Refugio is a MUST!) and shared some insight about the area. I have never slept better in my life than I did in the jungle house. The sounds of the jungle singing you to sleep and the morning alarm clock of howler monkeys was priceless. We did not want to leave and will for sure be coming back!

    sarah2016-01-07T00:00:00Z
  • My fiancé and I had an amazing time at El Arbol! Marjolein was great with suggestions of things to do & places to eat, and gave us our privacy for the week (& she lent us some iPod speakers for our stay!). The house was amazing, exactly as described on Airbnb. We spent some great evenings just relaxing on the hammock on the deck & listening to the sounds of the jungle. I highly recommend it to anyone!!!!

  • We had a wonderful stay, hosts were attentive to every need and the surrounding area is beautiful. Perfect jungle retreat, get a guide for a jungle tour - worth it!!

    Simon2016-12-06T00:00:00Z
  • El Arbol is an oasis. The treehouse is BEAUTIFUL with a gorgeous porch, lofted bedroom, full kitchen, and a bathroom with a keyhole-shaped door. They were WONDERFUL hosts, helping us find activities, with directions, and with checking into our next AirBnB. Amazing place!!!

    Liz2015-03-20T00:00:00Z
  • The jungle house is truly unlike anything we have ever experienced. It was so different, it was an adventure in and of itself! Marilyn and her husband couldn't have been more wonderful, accommodating and helpful. The porch was our favorite with the swinging chair and hammock. But the jacuzzi was also terrific so who can decide? Forget looking further for your perfect jungle house because this is it!!!! We loved venturing into the jungle by ourselves but next time i'll get a guide because there's so much to see and I'm sure we missed a lot. Stunningly beautiful and memorable.

    Kimberly2016-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • We loved this house! If you want a real jungle experience, this is the place! This house is unlike anything we had ever seen before. It had everything we needed to make it a comfortable stay. We were greeted by howler monkeys every time we walked to our house. They were so loud and funny! The house is located in a very secluded part of the jungle but is only about a 5 minute drive from Manzanillo and the beach. We also drove to Puerto Veijo on a daily basis and loved the scenery along the road. Wonderful people and family close by to help if we needed anything. Definitely would recommend and go back!

    Sheffield2014-12-19T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved staying at El Arbol. It was conveniently located within walking distance of Manzanillo and we were even able to make a nice hour bike ride into Puerto Viejo for the beautiful beaches, all while still having the beautiful seclusion of the jungle to come back to. John and Marilyn were very helpful and kind, we highly recommend!

    Tommy2015-11-16T00:00:00Z
  • El Arbol was the last stop on our 2-week honeymoon, and it could not have been a better experience. Marilyn was always available to make sure we were comfortable and had some great suggestions for local attractions. The jungle house was, of course, amazing. I think it was the closest thing you can get to living directly in the jungle without compromising on creature comforts like plumbing and a giant comfy bed. Our favorite parts of El Arbol were the porch, the keyhole door, and the house gecko :)

  • The tree house was absolutely amazing. An experience that you will not be able to have very often. It was clean, unique, and a lot of fun. When can you take a bath in a tree trunk? Or watch a movie as a toad lands next to you? As hosts they could have not been nicer, we truly enjoyed our experience.

    Clare2015-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • What a treat it was to stay in this beautiful place for the night. Jean and Al went above and beyond to make sure we had unmistakable directions and even arranged for a ride back to Jaco for us. We scheduled our stay incredibly last minute and they were so wonderful about it. The town was lively and beautiful. Their 4 acre property was incredible. My husband and I are HUGE animal lovers so Bruno the dog and their sweet lone duck were a big part of our stay. The only thing that could have made it better is if Bruno could have spent our entire visit right by our side (sweet sweet older dog who reminds us of our own. He is strictly an outside dog that stays on a runner lead in the yard. He, of course, lives in paradise and prides himself on looking after his beautiful home, but being the crazy American dog parents that we are, we still just wanted to bring him inside and snuggle him ) We highly recommend this place! We had a little speaker with music for the night. The sweet duck sleeps on the roof just above you so don't be alarmed when you hear her! But if you are a light sleeper music might be helpful!

  • You have to see this place. If you're thinking about booking this house, just do it. It's exactly what we were looking for in Costa Rica, a beautiful calm place to stay that feet like you were living in a tree house. Jean and Al were great and very accommodating for our arrival and departure times. We will absolutely stay here again.

    Andy2016-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Jean was a wonderful host, and the treehouse is really a unique and interesting. The grounds are really beautiful, and the treehouse is impeccably maintained and gives you a true one-with-nature experience. Unfortunately for us, an unforeseen issue back home caused us to cut our visit short, but we recommend this property if you are looking for a truly unique Costa Rican experience! Thank you again Jean for your hospitality.

  • Where to begin...this space and the private property is sits on are incredible. It is truly a unique experience in Costa Rica. It looks even more amazing in person. It is tough to get pictures of the space that do it justice. My boyfriend and I stayed here on the last night of our trip in January. Even though this is an open space, bugs were not an issue for us. If you are worried about wind, you will see in the pictures that there are large tarp curtains that you can expand to create "walls" if you choose. We slept with the curtains drawn even though it wasn't windy and then opened the place up in the morning. It was lovely. Jean left us some delicious fresh fruits from the property, ground coffee, and delicious granola and milk. We had a very relaxing morning, only to discover our car had a flat tire right before we were leaving to go to the airport! The hosts were incredibly helpful, and words cannot express our gratitude. We could not have made our flight without them. If that was not enough, Jean noticed I had sunburn and bug bites from my previous nights along the coast and cut a fresh branch of aloe vera plant for me from their garden. Overall, I highly recommend this spot to any traveler, particularly those looking for a memorable place to stay to/from San Jose.

Auto check-in.
Studio apartment, with full size bed and a pull over couch for an extra guest, internet and cable tv. Ideal if you come for vacation, and want to make one day trips to the mountains or to the beach, its also perfect for your first or las nights in Costa Rica, so you can get the feeling of busy down town, or if you come for medical turism it is about 15 minute cab drive to most hospitals. Located on the 5th floor, there is elevator, it has a great view of the mountains to the north side of town, and its located very close to all main museums and attractions in the heart of San Jose.
... Si trova a 5 minuti a piedi.
  • Marie was very helpful considering I only could communicate through the Internet while staying there. San Jose is definitely a busy, slightly unsafe city but her home made it feel secure.

    Sarah2015-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • The apartment was great, very clean with full kitchen and awesome view. Marie was lovely, easy check in/out and she arranged a taxi to pick and drop us off at the airport. Thank you!

    Rebecca2016-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • We arrived super early, but Marie made arrangements for us to get the keys. After a long flight it was nice to be able to get in the apartment immediately! The apartment itself was as in the pictures, with everything you need. Well located in the centre of the city and easy to find. Marie always replied fast to any questions we had. So, no complaints and we had a nice time there!

    Tom2016-07-06T00:00:00Z

  • We loved staying at Marie's. The apartment was clean and comfortable and it was centrally located with easy walking distances to all of the museums, cafes, bus stations etc. I would definitely stay at Marie's if I were in San Jose again!

    emily2017-07-09T00:00:00Z
  • Marie's apartment is in the perfect location to see San José's sights and museums. It's an easy walk to the central market, the churches, and the art and jade museums. The apartment is safe, clean, and comfortable. Also, Marie is super helpful and easy to reach. Both my friend and I had issues with delayed flights, but Marie always responded and arranged for our taxis. I highly recommend staying here.

  • I had a wonderful stay at Marie's place in downtown San Jose. It was very clean, cozy, and is in an excellent location! It was easy to find and was exactly as advertised. 10/10 would stay again.

This Villa is a full one-bedroom, with a lovely living room with two walls of glass with views of our tropical garden, and a kitchenette with double hot plate, small refrigerator and microwave. The bedroom has a double bed and has a wall of glass.
We are a small property of nine apartments nestled in a tropical garden overlooking the Central Valley of Costa Rica. Our property is secure, peaceful and tranquil, with hiking trails and isolated areas to hang out and sunbathe. When you are ready for more action the center of Escazu with restaurants and shopping is 15 minutes away and if you want to go into San Jose it’s only another 15 minutes or so. The best of both worlds! See more at www.villalemas.com
Our property is located in the most exclusive area of Escazu, which is the most exclusive neighborhood in Costa Rica. Our neighbors are well-known politicians, artists and business-people. While it may be the “Beverly Hills” of Costa Rica we enjoy a very peaceful and tranquil lifestyle with the advantage of being 20 minutes from the city. There are amazing hiking trails, waterfalls and natural pools above our property on Pico Blanco (one of the mountains that towers over Escazu). If you desire a relaxed vacation there are plenty of areas to relax on the property, but if you’re more adventurous there is a wide variety of activity just outside the gates of the property!
  • It is a beautiful property. This space has lots of natural sunlight shining through. It's peaceful and the host is very responsive. Also, I had a wonderful time hanging with Oreo and Negra, two of their very loving and playful dogs.

    Clarissa2015-12-19T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful location. Removed, safe, and scenic. You feel like you are sleeping in the rainforest. It was nice to have a small little kitchen. Great place to have wine on the balcony and enjoy the mountains.

    Liz2017-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • Ray's place is a scenic sanctuary. The lush, tropical landscaping is breathtaking and a beautiful sight to wake up to. Ray was very responsive and recommended some hikes nearby. There are a few super friendly dogs on-site and they know when you're cooking! But they are so well trained, they won't enter your studio. Definitely check out the rooftop as well. A perfect place for taking in all the sounds of nature!

    Sarah2017-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place in top of the hills ..... Love the nature around it and feel secure ..... Thanks Ray sadly we didn't have a chance to meet, hopefully next time !!

  • Host is extremely helpful! quick to respond which is really awesome. outside of the city. But you can u er to and from though it is hard for taxis and ubers to find everyone struggled & we don't speak Spanish so you can imagine lol There is wifi here. It is very dusty in our particular house im not sure about the others on the compound. But great scenery & beautiful home.

    Racquel2017-10-16T00:00:00Z
  • Great romantic spot up in the mountain side. Outdoor space is lush and full of beautiful birds. Definitely do the hike to Pico Blanco. Great if you are looking to order in or eat out.

    Marcie2017-04-01T00:00:00Z
  • We truly enjoyed our stay in Escazu. Escazu is about an hour and a half (two hours in traffic) from Jaco beach so we had a nice road trip in the mornings. We also enjoyed staying on Escazu because you can get a glimpse of the actual city life. The food was great (D'Toño) and Raymond was very helpful about helping us find places to go. Would definitely go back to Costa Rica!

  • The treehouse is a unique place to stay, you must try it period. It is located on a eco-farm where you can walk and discover fruit trees, gardens, animals (goats!!) and a beautiful yoga spot. It is at about 15 minutes from Montezuma by car which is just perfect and at about 5 minutes from Cobano where you can make groceries before cooking in your very own treehouse! Bring earplugs for the night! However, we haven't seen the owner Joseph. We felt we were a little bit left to ourselves... Morever, the whole place is so beautiful that we would have liked to hear your story Joseph! Too bad I guess... Either way, we highly recommend living that kind of experience :)

  • This treehouse was one of our favorite places we've ever stayed. It was clean and comfortable. Even though we were running much later than planned due to ferry times, the host was flexible and didn't mind. We loved the open air concept. One of our favorite parts of our vacation was watching the thunderstorms at night from the bed. This place was amazing and we've already begun recommending it to all our friends!

    Katie2016-06-15T00:00:00Z
  • magical. a truly unique experience. we had a motorcycle and it was fun going around from the tree house to montezuma and santa teresa. stay here

    kenny2016-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • This tree house is incredible. It is totally worth the drive. Where do I start? The views are incredible, your bed is suspended from the ceiling ad swings. The net around the bed kept out all the bugs, which were not too bad to begin with. The kitchen is fully functional, and a pleasure to cook in. I really don't know how to put this. You should stay here... You should, it is incredibly romantic. Proximity to down is not bad. 15 minutes. the drive is not so bad either, It's gonna be bumpy down to Montezuma, a little smoother from the ferry, you need a four wheel drive car, but it's not that bad. The place is extremely well built and so beautiful. The pictures look gorgeous, but they don't even do it justice.

    Samantha2015-09-05T00:00:00Z
  • We really loved our stay here. The Tree house is very well made with a highly functional design and the area is really beautiful. One of our favorite places we had the opportunity to stay at during our visit. I would highly recommend this spot to anyone and would definitely stay again if back in the area.

    Kevin2016-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • It was magic. Living in the sacred tree with the monkeys and birds made us feel so alive. The volunteers shared greens from the garden and we cooked each night with monkeys very near. Waking up to the chickens laying and turkeys gobbling felt like home. We drove each day to the Pacific coast to toss in the waves. As we head back to several feet of snow, our sweet memories will warm our hearts. Gracias.

    Nancy2016-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • The host was not there. the house was to close to another place with some students. Some it was not a country site experience as I expected.

    Sergio2016-07-24T00:00:00Z
  • The Tree House was a great experience and just as advertised. I highly recommend it! On your drive in stop at the Mega Super (grocery store) just south of the main intersection in Cobano. Stock up on all your supplies there!

Auto check-in è disponibile.

  • Marie was great! She wrote me several times throughout my stay and she was kind enough to bring me an umbrella the day it started raining without me even asking for it. The place is very cool, clean and was perfectly located -in terms of how close it is to all the main museums in San Jose, calle central, the market etc. The nicer areas of San Jose are not that far away, 8 dollar uber ride (escazú, Escalante, etc). The only con is that the location is not safe at nights -maybe not even during the day- my first night while I opened the building door in order to get to the uber (I waited for it inside the building the whole time) a stranger tried to rob me, assuring he had a gun in his pocket; thank God nothing happened as I reacted, pushed him and ran to the car (I guess he did not have a gun). I have been almost everywhere in latin America and this is the first time someone tries to rob me. Not even in Mexico where I have lived my entire life. Also, it is extremely noisy outside -starting as early as 5AM- cars, buses and motorcycles honking like there's no tomorrow. Other than that it was very cozy and Marie was an excellent host!

  • It was everything as shown and more. Very accomodating and helpful. You can walk everywhere from the apt! The loft is roomy enought for 2 ppl , and is it unbelieveably clean and comfortable! The building feels safe 24/7 and is always clean. One thing that it will be even more helpful will be if the building has its name and number in the front of the building, by front door eye level! We will definetly come back and stay at Maries place!!!

    Katheryn 2017-03-26T00:00:00Z
  • Pretty much as advertised and in the heart of the city. Good location if you want to walk around and enjoy San Jose. The apartment was very clean. Nice hot water shower. Lots of amenities. Comfortable bed and solid internet connection. Thanks for hosting me, Marie!

    Christophe2016-05-01T00:00:00Z
  • I cannot say enough how much I enjoyed my stay at Marie's apartment... Everyone told me to spend as little time as possible in San Jose and I am glad I didn't listen to them because I found lots of pockets of cool public art, great places to eat, and walked everywhere and felt completely safe while do so at all hours of the day and night... I stayed 4 nights total over two stays at Marie's apartment and her customer service and communications skills were way beyond any expectations, even though I never had the chance to meet her... From the easy check in and check out process, to her little messages to check if I was OK, to her going out of her way to check the weather and airport status because of the hurricane to make sure my flight wasn't affected... This the best customer service I've ever experienced with an airbnb! For the apartment itself, it is exactly as described... It is spotlessly clean, centrally located, quiet, in a very safe area, and amazing value... Rather than staying at a hotel, the apartment made me feel like I was living in the city for a few days rather than just passing through... I wish all Airbnbs were set up this well and had someone like Marie running it! Since they don't use addresses in Costa Rica, getting to the apartment or to and from points of interests can be a challenge if you don't speak Spanish so I would highly recommend getting a SIM card at the airport (Movistar is the best for San Jose, not sure about the rest of CR) and it will cost US$6 for days of data and voice.... Then download the Uber appreciate - it is much much cheaper than the official red cabs and way more convenient because you can select the pick up and drop off locations without having to give directions to places using landmarks (as locals do)... Just enter in the name of building that the apartment is in and Uber will get you back there easily... Enjoy SJO!

  • Not only was Raymond's property gorgeous, but the hospitality surpasses even the lovely views you wake up to. Seriously, one of the most helpful people with one of the most gorgeous estates. Can't wait to book with him again!

  • Describing the views as spectacular is an understatement. They are simply breathtaking. The place is very comfortable and clean and just a short drive away from town. Ray was incredibly helpful and a joy to talk to. His dogs roaming the yard just add to the great experience. I would have loved to have stayed more than one night, and will definitely stay here again if I get the chance.

    Alan2014-12-11T00:00:00Z
  • This spacious studio has amazing views of the mountains right out side the tall floor-to-ceiling glass walls on three sides of the room. I was first concerned that the living room/seating area would be crowded, but I was pleasantly surprised. The king size bed takes up only about 20% of the large living area. There's a full bath and small but adequate kitchen. The grounds are lush with gardens to walk. Be aware that it is a hilly drive up from San Jose proper, but all the roads are paved and in good repair without needing 4 wheel drive. Also, note that because of the elevation high up above San Jose it does get chilly and sometimes windy at night, so come prepared with a sweater. Like most Costa Rican housing there is no central air or heat, only ceiling fan and open windows. There's a little village, township about a five min car ride back down the hill, and if you are interested in seeing upscale Escazu proper, it's only another couple of minutes down from the small village of San Antionio. Raymond the host is quite welcoming.

    Len2015-03-23T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I stayed here on our final night in Costa Rica as we had an early flight out of San Jose in the morning. What a beautiful view to wake up to on our final morning in Costa Rica, it made it hard for us to leave. Ray was quick to respond to my emails and the place was gorgeous, even more beautiful than the pictures shown here. Loved the welcome from the dogs as well! I highly recommend staying here.

    Lauren2015-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • We took a taxi from San Jose airport to Raymond's. The taxi driver took us to the wrong place and ended up charging us $75 for the whole trip. I recommend getting Raymond to send you directions in Spanish so you can give that copy to your driver. The place is beautiful. It is a single room and the view is unbelievable. The electricity was out when we got there but it came back on before it got dark. I highly recommend getting food in town before you go to Raymond's. There is a kitchen to cook in. You do not want to try to walk to town. It is probably close to two miles to the nearest place to eat and the roads are slick and mountainous. The taxi had a hard time driving up the steep incline. Unless you rent a car, plan on staying at the villa because it is very hard to get around otherwise. It really is gorgeous. Very humid inside though.

  • The pictures don't even come close to doing justice! The room and landscapes were absolutely beautiful. I woke up at 5 am and didn't want to fall back asleep because the view was so amazing to wake up to! My boyfriend happened to find the place so magical, that he got done and proposed to me in the gardens! Raymond was super knowledgeable and helpful. He had awesome recommendations for breakfast and lunch spots! He was quick to respond! We truly couldn't have asked for a better first day here!

Casa Blue's 1.5 acre property sits on a mountain, surrounded by tropical forest and overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It offers 5 bedrooms with 5.5 bathrooms. This is one of the last arquitectural jewels of the late Steve Adams (San Diego, CA) and it encloses what was most important for the creative genious: a house that is designed from the outside, in. The main house is painted in a soft pale blue, given the property its name and is reminiscent of the owner's trips to the South of France. The gate opens into an outdoor patio with a fountain and a BBQ area, the whole detailed in grey stone and giving the house a very exotic yet cozy atmosphere. The ample entrance hallway is framed in glass, allowing the sun to shower the house all day long, and immersing the guests in the fabulous landscape from the minute they step in. This main house contains the Master Bedroom, which is an ample room in a private wing, with a terrace, an office space, a walk-in closet, a bathtub and both an indoor and an outdoor shower. The two other guest bedrooms have access to terraces with hammocks, and both enjoy magnificent ocean views. An exterior stairway leads into an upper deck, suitable for yoga practice, massage sessions or just cocktail drinking at sunset time. The living area encompasses the kitchen, the dining and the living room, creating a casual and relaxed atmosphere. Bi-folding glass doors blend this area with the pool and the deck, bringing the outdoors in and making it just the ideal spot to chill. The spacious TV room with a DVD player, a book library and a comfortable couch may be separated from the rest of the house by a sliding door, thus creating a quiet place to watch a movie or the perfect game room for adults and children alike. Beautifully kept garden walkways lead to the other buildings of the house: a caretakers quarters and the two guest bungalows set in forest. These are ancient Thai buildings, all made out of wood and imported by the owner to recreate the zen energy of old Asian cultures. Both bungalows are ancrered in wood platforms thus giving the impression of being tree houses, overlooking the ocean and surrounded by green foliage all year round.
  • This place is absolutely UNREAL. The photos do not do it justice. The most beautiful house I have ever stayed in. Alejandra is the best hostess ever. And the service of the staff is legitimately beyond measure. EVERY detail is perfect. I could write a million words on how incredible this trip has been and how amazing the house made it. Stayed with eight friends and we were all crying when we had to leave. Only warning: no matter what plans you have, you will not ever want to leave once you get there. Oh my god. Feel like I'm on a high just from staying here. 11/10, would stay again for the rest of my life if I could.

  • Casa Blue was simply amazing! This house has everything and more you can ask for in a property. The pool is absolutely stunning during the day surrounded by beautiful floors. The sun sets at night are fabulous and will always be remembered! I would recommend this property to any group looking to visit the Tamarindo area. Alejandra and her team did an awesome job making it our home for the week. Thank you again for an unforgettable trip, we hope to see you again. Pura Vida!

  • I feel like word will not be enough to explain how truly amazing this house is and how wonderful Alenhandra, Elyin, and Joselin were to our group! Our communication - starting with the initial inquiry to booking the place was handled with prompt responses and with accurate information to our multiple questions by Alejandra! Once we arrived at the house we were met by Elyin and Joselin. they were wonderful to our group of 10. they made us feel welcome and made sure the house always looked clean and put together. The pictures don't exactly do the house justice - being in there in person was an experience we will not forget. We look forward to coming there again during one of our future travels.

  • I celebrated my birthday here with 9 friends. The house was a dream and far exceeded my expectations. The pictures truly do it no justice. We didn't want to leave! My only complaint is that the shower water inside the house was very cold. Alejandra was great! She was extremely responsive and accommodating. The house guide provided was awesome. I'm so happy that it lead me to Chef Fabien! He made one of the best seafood feasts that I have ever eaten. He also recommended great bakers for my birthday cake.

  • From the moment we were confirmed for the reservation at Casa Blue, everything has been smooth sailing from here. A couple of days after the confirmation, we received an email from Alejandra with complete packets of directions to the house from the airport, and dining and tour guides for the nearby areas. We were a family of six looking for great views, updated furnishings, and a relaxing atmosphere--we received all of this (and more) at Casa Blue. We had no issue finding the home with the help of the GSP and the directions provided to us--and as forewarned, the road to the house was a bit tough and a 4x4 car was definitely necessary. As soon as we entered the home, the groundskeeper Elgin came out to greet us, as Alejandra was away. Though our communication was limited as we didn't speak fluent Spanish, we were able to understand and called Alejandra to catch us up on our arrival. He gave us the home keys, told us how to use it, and gave us the cell phone with a local phone number. As other reviewers have pointed out, the photos from the listing don't do this home enough justice: the pool and jacuzzi area were absolutely breathtaking, and the rooms were large, airy, and spacious, as were the beds. They provided hairdryers, towels, and had laundry machines on site for us. We cooked all our breakfast meals, and some dinners, and had everything we needed in the kitchen from multiple cutting boards all the way down to candles and the placemats. As mentioned before, we were a family of six and comfortably slept in the home. One of of our members were so tired the first night that he fell asleep on the couch. The next day, Elgin and Joselyn must have noticed the blanket and pillows there, because by the time we came back home that day, we noticed two twin beds set up in the media room. We never asked for it, but Elgin and Joselyn were always one step ahead of us and provided everything we needed, even before we realized we would do better with those needs. Overall, we have absolutely no complaints about the beautiful home (minus the bugs, which is understandable as the home can be opened up; plus, Joselyn graciously sprayed the natural bug repellant around the beds when we asked for it), or the level of service we received from Alejandra and Elgin. Also, as one of the past reviewers noted, there were some restaurants that weren't mentioned in the handbook that were awesome. We also fell in love with Coco Loco, which is a short 20-25 minute drive to Playa Flamingo, and offers stunning sunset views and great food (not to mention strong, tasty cocktails!). If we do ever plan on revisiting Costa Rica, we'll definitely be staying at Casa Blue again. Thank you to Alejandra, Elgin, and Joselyn for an unforgettable stay!

  • Casa Blue was AMAZING and totally blew our families away. My family, wife and 2 little girls, traveled there with another family, 2 little boys, and my brother. There was more than enough space for everyone to hang out together, or find their own little nook within the property for some alone time. The pool, outdoor area, gardens, nature and wildlife, view, etc was spectacular. Each bedroom/suite having it's own bathroom was a big plus too. The location of Casa Blue is perfect for the adventurous type of traveler. The location is not hard to get to, and is relatively close to several of Costa Rica's best beaches. Playa Grande and Playa Ventanas are within a 10km drive down from the house, Tamarindo and it's shopping and nightlife are 15-20kms away, and then there is Playa Conchal and Playa Flamingo, easily 2 of the nicest beaches in Guanacaste, are about a 25 minute drive away. Casa Blue is perfect for families and large groups. You can easily explore all that Costa Rica has to offer close to the house, and then of course, it is an amazing place to just hang around and relax at. I will definitely be coming back the next time we decide to visit Costa Rica!

  • Casa Blue was perfect! Stayed for one week with 4 other couples and found the home and property just as beautiful as the pictures. Alejandra was very helpful and responsive to any inquiry, before and during our stay. She assisted us to arrange for a cook, and driver from and back to the airport. The house staff were very helpful. Carmen, the cook was wonderful as well. Every meal was delicious! We really can't say enough about how great everything was. Everyone enjoyed their own space and we were able to gather as a large group in the common areas for relaxation, swimming, and dinner. We would give Casa Blue and everyone involved in making our stay exquisite a 10/10. Thank you Alejandra, we hope to return again soon. We highly recommend Casa Blue.

  • You could be forgiven for thinking Ami is short for "amigo". We visited in August, and I admit we were initially worried about the weather forecast. Ami put our mind at ease and we are SO glad he did. We have never felt more at home in another country! In fact we wish we had stayed longer and cannot wait until our next visit. Our daily routine was a walk to town, lunch, beach, ice cream parlour, shopping and a $3 taxi back, followed by pool and relax. We completely switched off and Pura Vida has never been so true. The guards at the entrance became good friends, improving my Spanish no end with our little chats, and the neighbours made for a very safe, cosy home. Eating out can be dear, but we ordered a meter-long pizza from Pizza Patta one night and that gave mum a little break from the (gorgeous) kitchen. Next time, I think we would come over by taxi again from the airport, which Ami organised for us for $95 as we made a good friend with Carlos, but perhaps hire a car for our actual stay, as visits can be a good distance away. Our best day was a private tour to Manuel Antonio National parc, where I achieved my dream of seeing a hummingbird and seven slothes in one day, amongst many other things. We learnt a lot about this great country on the way too. But coming "home" to our pool and little corner of paradise was bliss. The odd afternoon rain or distant thunderstorm were in fact very welcome - and I am so glad we came! In short, we think we just found heaven on earth, and we dare you not to WOW when you enter Ami's secret hideaway.

Rustic private beach home in front of the most famous beach home in the surf town of Playa Hermosa, where world championships have been hosted. Enjoy waking up to the sound of ocean waves & macaws with a private pool overlooking the ocean. Our front fence gate opens to the beach. Sand & waves are at your footsteps. Walk right to the laid back beach front restaurants, bars and surf shops or head left to the desolate beaches of the Playa Hermosa - Punta Mala Wildlife National Refuge. Surf heaven!
This beachfront private beach home lies right in front of the Pacific Ocean in a corner property next to the main highway. It consists of two homes, one for your exclusive use. Your 2-story rustic wood getaway has 5 bedrooms & 3 bathrooms. Upstairs it features a lounge area with a hammock & rocking chairs, a bathroom, 2 bedrooms with queen beds, each to accomodate 2 guests plus a bedroom with 3 single beds. Downstairs is a kitchen, a living/eating area facing the pool & ocean, a common bathroom, a room with a private bathroom & queen bed plus another bedroom with 2 single beds. The house is ideal for 3 couples & 5 individuals or groups ranging from 8 to 11 people. The kitchen includes a fridge, a gas stove, microwave, dishes, glasses, coffee maker, blender, small counter top oven, pots & pans plus cooking utensils. Sheets, towels, soap & shampoo are provided. Bring your beach towels, mosquito repellent & most importantly, a bathing suit & sunblock. There is an onsite person that guards & maintains the property. The swimming pool lies in between the house & the beach. It's a perfect spot for the most beautiful sunsets & surf shows. There is an outdoor shower area in between plantain trees overlooking the ocean. A rustic BBQ is also available. Wifi is available as well as fans in every bedroom and living /lounge areas. A very large deck with a large custom wood dining table, rocking chairs, sofa & hammocks is available when the owners are not present in the next door house. Secure parking is available inside the property for 4 cars. Playa Hermosa is a quiet beach town known worldwide for its surfing - it hosted the world surf championships a few years back. Saturday afternoons surfers & surf fans fight for parking to witness world-class surfing at the weekly surf competitions, viewed from the privacy of your beach home. The property is located at the end of the town & the beginning of a natural reserve that preserves sea turtle nestling. It abuts the main highway known as La Costanera to the east, the Backyard hotel to the north, the Pacific Ocean to the west & an open cattle field to the south. Small restaurants, surf & a few small shops are located within walking distance. Due to the town's proximity to virgin rainforest, you will likely see Scarlet macaws on a daily basis. Iguanas roam freely all over the property. Our country is notorious for bad roads & bad signage. For most flexibility, we recommend you hire a 4x4 with low mileage and either bring or rent a GPS. Waze is very handy! If you plan to party at night in Jaco, taxis can easily be hired for pick up and will be available in town for drop off. Always be careful with your belongings, as it is the case with all of Latin America. Bring your own surfboard, rent or take surf lessons in town but be mindful of the extremely strong ocean currents. A yoga center is less than 1 km away. Local tours include bungee jumping in Jaco, sport fishing in Los Suenos Golf Resort & Marina, horseback riding through jungle trails or along the beach, hikes to waterfalls, kayaking, biking, ATV rides, canopy ziplining & whitewater rafting. On site massages can be arranged too. Other day trips include Tortuga Island, Carara National Park & Manuel Antonio National Park visits. The property ia located 1.5 hrs away from San Jose & 5 min from the bustling tiwb of Jaci, where you wilk dknd ATMs, nightlife, restaurants, supermarkets, souvenir skhops & all sorts of retail. Please note there is no air conditioning or hot water.

  • The house is perfect

    Raquel2017-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time in Playa Hermosa. We arrived much later than expected because of trouble renting our cars, but it didn't seem to be much of a problem. When we pulled into the parking lot we were flagged down by the gentleman who lives/works there. I'm not sure of his name or his affiliation because of the language barrier, but he stayed in a small hut on the premises. In the mornings he would sweep the common areas. The gate to the beach came off the hinge one evening (it nearly came off when Yolanda showed us around so I don't feel too bad) and the guy fixed it without a fuss when he saw it during his morning sweep. Yolanda showed us around the house. I tried to keep up, with everything she was saying, but my Spanish is very bad, so I hope I followed the rules. You could probably get by without knowing Spanish, by miming or something, but written instructions would be more helpful. The house was clean, comfy and well stocked with cooking utensils, which we used to cook up some fish we caught on Friday. The only downside is the lack of air conditioning. Being an entitled American I assumed it was a given and didn't notice it wasn't listed in the description. Infrequency of a/c seems to be a cultural norm and we quickly got used to it. In fact, I think I like that there was no a/c. It somehow added to the experience. Every room has fans so that probably helped. One other down side is that most of the rooms are on the side of the house facing the road, not the beach. The noise wasn't too disturbing, unless you're trying to sleep in. The large gate helps a bit. If it really bothers you, there are hammocks around the property that could be slept in. You'd have the ocean as your soundtrack, but you may need a big net (assuming that's the case as it didn't bother me and the insects weren't very bad). I wasn't expecting the view to be as good as it seemed in the pictures, but I was wrong. The view definitely exceeded my expectation. It's an absolutely perfect location, with a view of the beach and private pool from the hammock. The backyard is huge and iguanas were hanging about. On Saturday evening we all relaxed in rocking chairs, had a few Imperials and watched the surfing competition from the second patio. We don't know anything about surfing, but we pretended like we did. Absolutely beautiful!! So yea. Awesome house and location. Catarina was very responsive by email. Also she recommended a fishing guide that worked out very well (really nice sail fish). Thanks!!

  • The place was perfect for us! Looks better in person than in the pictures. Host was very welcoming and answered all of our questions. Playa Hermosa is a fun little surf town...5 min drive/cab ride to Jaco and near many other beaches and national parks. My family and friends all had a great time! PURA VIDA!

  • We were welcomed by Derby, the grounds keeper and shortly after that Yolanda, Catarina's mother. She came with several different types of fruit and a bag of ice for the freezer. The place was exactly as it appeared on the website. The pool was an excellent addition considering it was 90 degrees! The neighborhood was very nice-laidback and for the most part quiet. The trucks on the road were a bit loud, but I bring earplugs everywhere I go anyways so it wasn't a problem.

    Cynthia2016-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • The house was just what me and my friends were looking for when we booked the trip. Its a beautiful house with a pool and the beach a 2 steps away. She is really friendly and hospitable, whatever we needed she made it a point to help us out. Its only a few minutes away from Jaco by cab ($5) but far enough where you dont have to deal with a lot of people and have your space. Would totally recommend it to anyone that is looking to travel to Costa Rica!!!!

  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Laura's almost-beachfront apartment. We were warmly greeted by Laura and her family the evening we arrived and they led us up a spiral staircase to the apartment, which was indeed light and airy, with beautiful colors throughout ... very thoughtfully designed and equipped. We particularly enjoyed making meals and watching the many iguanas that live in the trees across the road...some quite enormous. One aspect of this apartment to be aware of is it location in the heart of this lively beach community. You are near several open-air beachside discos and a couple of the weekend evenings the music was loud and lasted well into the night. Mornings, on the other hand, are splendidly calm. It is a delightful place in which to wake up and start a day.

    Lisa2014-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • This house was great for my family. The beach is at the end of the road and the downtown is right around the corner. The house was clean and exactly what you see in the pictures. The were screens on all of the windows and the fans helped with the heat. We did hear the club down the road on the weekend, but the fans also helped drown out the noise.

    Eli2014-06-30T00:00:00Z
  • This was our first experience with an AirBnB rental and overall, it was very good. For the money, the apartment is not to be believed – spacious, two bedrooms, decent kitchen, bright and airy living space, fabulous shower, excellent WiFi, so nice and close to the beach. As other reviewers have said, it is up a rather steep spiral staircase – not an issue for us, but something to note for those who might not do well with stairs or heights. There was only one problem for us which turned out to be major enough for us to move: the weekend noise, which has been mentioned by other reviewers and the host as well, starts on Thursday night, a little more on Friday, then Saturday, culminating on Sunday night with a LOT of noise – too much to block out with the fans. On both of our Sunday nights the apartment was not usable in the evening for conversation or reading and then it was very loud until 2:00 AM. We are a family of five and accustomed to quiet on our farm in rural Missouri. Folks with more urban experience or those who want to join the partiers might be just fine. Our host did say that the Sunday night noise was new – a new bar across the lane – and we’re guessing that in time she will be able to prevail upon the authorities to quiet them down. This is where I have to give kudos to AirBnB and to our host – adjusting our stay and arranging for a refund was so very easy. In fact the refund was processed on the day we relocated. We did find a quieter place in Samara, but at twice the price. Overall, a good experience with AirBnB and with our first hosts. Thank you.

  • Great location, second time at Laura's place, a block from the beach, and close to everything downtown, kitchen is equipped with everything if you want to cook. There is a nice grocery store about a block away, Pali (a subsidiary of Walmart).

  • Spent 5 night in March 2014. The apartment is very roomy and just a very short stroll to the beach. The beautiful smell of the cashew tree greets you when you come through the gate. It is very close to everything you could want in Samara and the beach is fantastic. The fans kept the room cool and the kitchen was well equipped with everything you need. This is a great place to stay in Samara!

  • Laura was very clear about directions, logistical information etc… right from the beginning. Fantastic host. The place is exactly the way it is described with the beach a few steps down from the property. I would definitely book again and am planning on doing it next year! Samara and Carillo beaches are beautiful and quiet..non of that busy touristy stuff. Laura arranged for even horse back riding and her staff at the Intercultura School was also very helpful. I highly recommend her place to all!

  • Almost Beachfront was a great place to stay for our family. The proximity to the beach was a huge plus. We could quickly go the beach with the kids for a swim without having to bring snacks, drinks, and the myriad of other things that children seem to suddenly need the moment you leave the house. If they needed anything you could be back to the house within minutes. Laura and her family were welcoming and helpful with any requests and the surfboard and boogie boards loaners were enjoyed by all. During our stay they installed an outdoor shower which was a welcome addition to the suite when returning from the beach. The only reason we would not give a 5 star rating is the fact that the bar scene nearby can be loud Thursday thru Saturdays. This is not any fault of of Laura's of course. That being said we still managed to sleep through most anything the bars could drift through the nite to us as the daytime beach visits managed to tire us out thoroughly. Tk

  • We loved staying at Casa en el Aire. It's a beautiful apartment just steps from the beach, near plenty of good restaurants. We were there around New Year's, so the music from the nearby beach bar could be annoying late at night, but the fans did a decent job drowning it out, and it didn't prevent us from getting a good night's sleep every night we were there. Those more sensitive to noise should bring ear plugs, but don't let it stop you from renting this wonderful apartment. Laura was incredibly helpful and quick to respond, and even arranged a taxi for us. She also provided a great list of what to do in and around Sámara. A fantastic apartment in a beautiful location. Just be sure to bring your own beach towels, that's the only thing that wasn't provided that we found we needed. Overall, I can't recommend this apartment highly enough.

  • We had an absolute great time staying at Ami's place. He was a great host who even had us over to his place for a swim and dinner. He was a great host and we couldn't have asked for anything more !!!

  • Nice comfy apartment in central location. Check in was easy and security is top notch. The community has a lot of rules that are enforced to keep the grounds pristine. Clean and family oriented. I recommend to all!

  • The condo was very nice and very secure. Ami was a very attentive host and was very helpful. The condo had very strict rules that seemed at times excessive. The condo community is family friendly.

  • I loved Amnon’s place, it’s so modern, tasteful, new and beautiful. The kitchen was fully equipped and we had fresh fruit smoothies every day. The small grocery store is by the entrance to the community. When I was booking this place, I was concerned about the noise from the main street. However, I have to say, that only the entrance is on the main street and the whole gated community is behind other buildings, no noise from the main street. The unit is on the first row and facing main area, however is not in front of the pool (less noise, more privacy). We visited in June, so it was absolutely quiet and we had all 5 pools (2 for kids, one Jacuzzi) just for ourselves. One thing we changed was a sleeping direction on the bed, away from AC. So everything was perfect and king size bed was very comfortable. Amnon was a great host and helped us with everything we needed. Jaco has many restaurants and souvenir shops. We loved Playa Herradura beach. It’s on another side of peninsula. We had a great time here.

    Edita2014-06-14T00:00:00Z
  • The location was just as pictured. Clean, modern and updated. It is close to everything and within walking distance to the main street and the beach. The new Crocs Casino is less then a mile away. You can buy Zip lining tour right across the street ( Costa Rica Waterfall Tours) and a very good restaurant which is across from Costa Rica Waterfall Tours, starts with an Is and i can remember the rest, but we had great food there. Panaderia Artesanal is right around the corner and they have fabulous pastries, breakfast food and coffee.

  • Casa Mambo was great! Beautiful home and a very relaxing/calming space. The place is in a great location, very close to everything you made need...most importantly a very short walk to the beach! :) Marina was very accommodating, I really appreciate how available and communicative everyone was during our stay. Definitely recommend this place. Thank you!

  • Marina and Alex welcomed us warmly and met us nearby since the home is nicely "hidden" from the street. They graciously showed us around the home and were very available for questions or anything we needed. They went above and beyond to make me and my daughter comfortable. The home is beautiful and very unique; having A/C was a very nice bonus, especially for sleeping. Having a nicely furnished kitchen was extremely convenient, as was the proximity to the heart of Tamarindo. But the home's location makes it feel like you're further away, up in the trees!

  • Casa Mambo was awesome! It was what we expected and more, the pictures definitely do this place justice. It truly is within walking distance to everything and if you need anything Marina was there. I actually got sick while I was there and she came to check on me and provided my husband with electrolyte stuff to help me get better. Very personal touch and meant a lot to us as we know we wouldn't have received the same treatment or had the same experience in a hotel/resort. Thank you Marina & Alex for your hospitality and generosity.

  • Host was easy to reach once we arrived and very helpful in making us feel welcome. Casa Mambo was beautiful and made our stay in Costa Rica great! In particular, we loved the outdoor kitchen! Everything was clean and they provided towels. Overall, a great experience and would recommend it to others.

  • Marina was a wonderful host, met us on the street to guide us into the beautiful Surf house. The house is beautiful inside and out, and SUPER close everything you'd want to do- surfing, bars, beaches, with tour guides 100 m down from the house.

  • It will be hard to describe in a short reply just how much we truly loved Casa Mambo and everything about the experience there. We thought we were taking a gamble by booking it, since at the time there were no reviews (this has changed obviously), and we ended up getting the BEST place we've ever found on AirBNB! We have a long history of using the service, mostly via groups on friends' accounts, and never found anything like this before. Not only was the price very reasonable, but it is the most unique little home I've ever seen, a total custom job. A 2-3 min walk to the beach, an outdoor kitchen that we used every day for fruits/vegetables/drinks/etc, an amazing hosting team in Alex/Marina (Alex checked us in, he was one of the most welcoming hosts I've had using AirBNB), secluded environment (this is up a hill via private walkway from the street) yet right in the center of everything -- like I said, we cannot say enough great things about this place and the experience. We usually don't do the same place twice, but I think we may have to make an exception for Casa Mambo and Tamarindo. There were so many great local restaurants right down the front walk and literally a few hundred feet away was the best supermarket in Tamarindo with all the local fresh fruits and Costa Rican food brought in almost daily. The neighborhood is very safe (easily felt safer than where I live in the US) and best of all Alex is right next door, so if you have even the smallest question or issue, he will be there in seconds to fix it for you. Oh - and one other thing - Tamarindo is probably one of the hottest places I've ever been, so the fact that there's a really strong AC in the bedroom and lots of shade/stone construction at this place is a HUGE help after a day at the beach. I could keep going on about how much we loved this place, but I think you need to just go see for yourself!

    Jesse2015-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great visit at Casa Mambo. Marina was very helpful and accommodating as far as check in. The cottage had some really great artwork, and all the necessities for eating in one night. We really loved staying there!

  • The bamboo house was an amazing place to stay close to corcovado, if you want to rest and be away from the crazy world for few days. It is such an experience to be so close to the nature and living with the sound of the waves and animals. Monica was also perfect setting all the activities for us.

  • This place is amazing. If you can book at least three nights. Scarlet macaws, monkeys and hermit crabs wonder around the beautiful house making it feel like you're in paradise. The house is beautiful and very big. The porch with the deck chairs and hammock is great and the garden/forest around the house is gorgeous. It's very secluded so you basically have your own beach. The ocean was quite rough, but there are some easier beaches in the area. Our shower was broken so we had to take cold showers, but otherwise the perfect paradise hangout.

  • This bamboo house was such a delight for me, my cousin and mother! We had amazing sunrises and views. We were able to do adventurous hikes, horse back riding and a boat ride during the days and rest in the evenings! The staff was so helpful and kind helping us book any adventures of our interest! The house is like a big tree house with everything you need. We had to drive 30 min to the market to get food which was no problem and a fun ride. Thank you so much. We will definitely be returning in the future.

Relaxed, Quiet and Peaceful. The casita is perfect for people who want to be at peace and in harmony with nature. It is very comfortable and cozy at the same time. It is a short drive to many beautiful beaches and a bustling town of Nosara.
Relaxed, Quiet and Peaceful Yogic Forest Casita The casita is perfect for people who really want to be at peace in the jungle but comfortable at the same time. The casita offers a fully equipped kitchen and internet. It has a queen size bed and a single bed. It has a dinning table, shelves and a closet to hang your clothes. The casita also has an outside deck, which is facing the jungle, and is perfect for relaxation and yoga practice. There is access to massage, yoga classes and other therapeutic sessions. You can take yoga classes twice a day at the nearby yoga retreat, which is a 10 minute walk away. There is horse back riding at the nearby beach which can be organized for you. If you would like to make a campfire, it is also a possibility. The land is really big, 20 acres property, with paths that you can explore. We have two adorable cats and two friendly dogs living on the property. The big communal yoga platform is available throughout the day. Please note that we have a dry season during the months of January - April, so that there is less vegetation in the whole area of Guanacaste. During the months of June - November it is a rainy season, so that the nature is more lush. Although it is in a secluded area, you can take a hike through the jungle to a beautiful beach that is a 30-40 minute walk. It's a 7 minute drive to the peaceful fishermen's beaches of San Juanillo. Stunning and powerful black sand beach is about 5 min drive away. The yoga and surf mecca Nosara is 30-40 minutes away by car. You can find a variety of restaurants, shops, bars, yoga and surfing classes in Nosara. The nearby village San Juanillo also offers a couple of very good restaurants that are catering to the tourists. Halfway between San Juanillo and Nosara there is the small village of Ostional which is perfect for turtle watching. House rules - please keep music down, no alcohol, no meat (vegetarian food only) preferably no tobacco on the land.
We are located a 7 minute drive away from a fishermen's village San Juanillo, which features some stunning beaches, as well as a couple of nice restaurants. We are a 30-40 minute drive away from Nosara, which is a yoga and surf mecca. You can find a variety of restaurants, shops and bars in Nosara.
  • What a wonderful experience staying here was! If you are looking to disconnect from the world this the place for you. I rented an ATV (Shlomo set it up for me) for the week and got to Nosara's town and the beaches in San Juanillo super quick. The house is lovely and the company was superb. Everything I wanted. I would definitely stay here again.

  • My girlfriend Kelsey and I had a great time staying with Shlomo! He was an awesome host. He was there and willing to help us with anything that we needed. We were very impressed with how he was able to make the place cozy without compromising the surrounding nature. We really enjoyed spending time with Shlomo. He's truly pura vida!

    Chris2016-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • This is a special place, but requires you to be open to the experience. If you are a traveler that enjoys a basic level of comfort, ask yourself if you would trade-off some of the basics for a chance to live in the jungle with the minimal comforts. If you are willing to do that, then go for this place. Each day I learned something from staying on these grounds. I learned something about the truths that the jungle has to offer. Whether it came from the howler monkeys in the tree outside the casita, the hairy tarantula in the jungle garden, the large frog gracefully attached to my toilet lid late at night or my mid-morning yoga practice on the deck, a truth revealed itself. Shlomo is a mystical man and will let you own your experience on his place, rather than try to influence you. He is friendly and warm. You will need to accept insects and bug bites as part of the experience. At the end of four nights, I was sad to go.

    Pamela2017-06-27T00:00:00Z
  • Shlomo is a beautiful soul in the body of a very sweet human being with an amazing vision of paradise for his farm here. He is very generous, accommodating, and caring. This is my first trip to Costa Rica, and Shlomo is my first Air BnB host. It has been like a surreal dream in paradise ever since I have been here in Shlomos Casita. I look forward to coming back and seeing his dreams come true, and I will be back again! Thank you so much brother!! :)

    Moss2016-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • Shlomo was a wonderful host. His sweet little homes, built with the materials from the jungle were nothing but beautiful. My boyfriend and I had stayed there for two nights. If you're looking for tranquility, this is the place to be- immersed in jungle noises, with all the sweet little fire flies and howler monkeys. It was clean, the bed was comfortable and the air was fresh as can be. Although a bit of a drive from the beach, local shops and places to eat, it was very worth it. I certainly recommend a stay here to slow down and really enjoy your vacation. Thank you for sharing a part of your dream with us, Shlomo!

  • Great place to get away and relax ! Definitely need a 4x4 to get there!

    Zak2017-07-31T00:00:00Z
  • My father and I spent a week in Costa Rica and decided to take a few days to relax in nature. Shlomo's place did not disappoint. He was so welcoming and hospitable. Whenever we had questions or concerns, he was always available. On our first day there, he drew us a map of his favorite idyllic beaches and food spots (take his recommendations, trust me). He's truly crafted a remarkable retreat.

    Julianka2017-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Staying with Schlomo will be a singular experience. He is an incredibly special person and meeting him is worth the trip out. His home couldn't have been farther from NY. Comparatively, nearby Nosara is a metropolis. If you are looking to get far away and listen to monkeys and rain and sometimes a distant guitar, this is the place. Make sure you have a good car and know where you're going before you get on the road. He's tucked away. Take his food recs, in this tiny town there are some INCREDIBLE OPTIONS. Looking forward to seeing Schlomo again!

Our home is one of the top-rated in Costa Rica. Guests enjoy splendid views and privacy yet are close to many attractions and amenities. Experience an "authentic" Tico experience in a picturesque and friendly village just 7 km from Arenal Volcano.
Our 'Castle in The Clouds' is just seven km from Volcano Arenal, perched 700m above sea-level overlooking the volcano, rainforest, pastures and Lake Arenal. Wake to the sound of howler monkeys, toucans and parrots and enjoy your first cup of locally-grown coffee on our enormous 25 sq. m. covered deck. At night, watch the lava flows or count the stars overhead. Our home features a splash pool to cool off after a busy day of eco-adventuring. You can walk to many attractions in the village, including several quaint local restaurants. The home features casual dining indoor or out, hot water throughout, and stunning views from every room. It is completely equipped with a full-sized fridge with ice-maker, gas stove, microwave and blender and includes twice-weekly cleaning service (more often optional on request). An optional personal laundry service is also available. Active or passive, this is the perfect home base for your Arenal vacation! In the last few months, we've been busy landscaping our property. We now feature a paved driveway, a separate covered Gazebo (perfect for al fresco dining) and the yard has been completely enclosed with a custom-made 5' stone and wrought-iron fence. You'll enjoy our garden paradise yard featuring a variety of local and tropical plants designed to maximize your Costa Rica experience. Now-Book Local Tours and Attractions: Tomas and Hannah, owners of La Gavilana (www.facebook.com/lagavilanaherbsandart), our on-site hosts can now book many local tours and attractions for you on your arrival, saving you the hassle of running around. From zip-line tours, hot springs, spas and volcano hikes to a horseback ride to a real eco-farm or a two day hike through pristine rainforest, you can be as busy or as relaxed as you like, but you'll never run out of things to do in the area. Just ask Tomas when you arrive and he'll be happy to make recommendations and reservations for you.
El Castillo is an authentic Tico village. The horses and cattle will pass your door each day. The locals are very friendly and will happily stop and chat. There are a couple of small groceries in the village and several restaurants, but walk up the mountain road a bit and you will be in the jungle with spectacular views in all directions.
  • This is a nice property in a very remote area about 1/2 hr west of Fortuna. We arrived after 10 pm the first night in heavy rain and the following day only had about 3 hours of variably clarity so the awesome Arenal view was nonexistent. But the house is great. The enclosed second floor porch was awesome in the rain storm. The view must be incredible when the clouds clear. It was too rainy and cold to use the pool or gazebo but both are as shown. We only made the supplied delicious Costa Rican coffee but the kitchen looked well equipped even with frozen Margarita glasses in the freezer. Cable TV worked fine to catch a futbol match. Beds were very firm but comfortable, pillows were quite flat. Water heater is small so staggering showers is important. Secured gated parking was a nice feature as we had a large SUV but this is a tiny community so I don't imagine there's much theft. En route you pass one of the Arenal Park entrances where we went and recommend. Several trails with level 3 to 4 difficulty. Great view of the volcano. Just down the hill (4x4 recommended) is a veggie restaurant where we had a simple Tico breakfast, lunch at the other Soda at the base of the hill was equally acceptable. Communication with the owner John was fast and informative. He also sent lots of excellent material on things to do, directions, house guidance, etc.

  • The house was as advertised. It's a beautiful home, the last one at the top of the hill overlooking the Arenal volcano & the lake. We couldn't ask for a better view! The house was well equipped with everything you might need. You can have laundry service for $25 done on-site or $2,000 colones/kilo done off-site. They will pick up clothes at the house. Weather was great! Nice cool weather, nice cool breeze and raining off and on during our stay. We did many walks, including down to the river. Just ask the locals, they'll tell you how to go down to the river. Everyone living in the community was nice and helpful. Any needs/requests were not only handled quickly but always with a great disposition by Hannah & Thomas. John was also very responsive to any emails we sent his way. We would definitely stay at this house again if the opportunity came up. Useful information that the host makes you aware but important to point out: 1. You must drive several kilometers of unpaved roads to get to the house. This was hands down the best unpaved road we were on, this includes the 2-hour dirt road one must drive on if visiting Monteverde. 2. GPS. Bring one. You enter Points of Interest, not addresses 3. Good restaurant within the community, La Ventanita.

  • The house was awesome. Great place to stay in Arenal area that is secluded. The drive isn't bad either.

  • This house was incredible, and Tomas could not have been more helpful or accommodating. He assisted us with arranging transportation, finding dinner our first night and, most impressively, helping us dig our car out of a ditch (4x4 is definitely recommended!) There are dining options within walking distance (Essence Arenal offers great vegetarian dishes), and the views from the house are absolutely spectacular. You will not regret staying at this haven- it is an escape yet provides all the comforts of home. We would not hesitate to return!

  • El Castillo was an absolutely wonderful way to end our time in Costa Rica. The setting was magnificent -- great views of the lake and volcano -- just as promised. And the house/home had everything we needed -- comfortable beds, lots of different places to sit and relax. Getting there can be a bit of a challenge, but we had already spent several days driving on CR roads, so these roads were just a bit more demanding. But the destination is certainly worth the trip. And the directions was very clear. Hannah and Tomas were most helpful with their advice. We are already planning another trip to CR and hope to stay here again. Thank you for sharing your "retreat" with us. Ron & Sue, John and Jane

  • We had an amazing stay in El Castillo! The view is perfect and the house is just as pictured. Tomas was very helpful and responsive; he also helped us book an excursion. The house is 20 min from most activities on the west side of the volcano and about 40 min from La Fortuna. Definitely rent a 4x4 as the last 10 km from the highway is unpaved and can be quite steep. If we ever come back to the Arenal area we would love to stay here again!

  • This place is absolutely incredible. The view was breathtaking and the village was so authentic Costa Rica. The house is very clean and well furnished. A very comfortable stay. The closed porch in the second level was a great place to sit and have morning coffee, or play scrabble while watching the amazing lightning storms. The kitchen is well stocked and there are plenty of extra pillows and towels for the pool. Tomas and Hannah are wonderful people and they were great assets for our trip and activities to do while we were in town. Tomas made us some fresh bread one day and it was very good. I would recommend this place to any one looking for an adventure and peaceful place to stay. Also, it is only a ten minute drive to the Sky Adventures park where they have great zip lining and river tubing. The only thing that was inconvenient was the road conditions. The house is 10km off the main paved road and it's a little bumpy. Definitely need a 4x4 to get to the house. Enjoy!!!

  • Great house and overall a wonderful experience. It's in a very convenient location for access to many parks and various things to do (Sky Trek, Arenal Observatory Lodge, horseback riding, rafting, etc.). The last road leading to the house is pretty bumpy and steep so definitely suggest a 4x4 vehicle, but by no means should this be a reason to hold you back from staying here. This is a great place to enjoy all the interior of Costa Rica has to offer.

The road up to the house is rocky and you need to have a 4 x4 wheel drive car with good clearance.
  • My wife and I enjoyed Tanya's home. It was secluded and peaceful. The windows gave the home a nice warm feel. We enjoyed the hummingbirds and nature sounds. We went for a short hike down to the creek exploring the flora and fauna. The home was spacious. We enjoyed the sound of the rain on the roof. If we are given the chance, we would stay here again. We rented a sedan for our trip to Costa Rica. We were able to get to the house with the car, but I would recommend getting something with more ground clearance like an SUV. Some of the roads can be a little rough in this area. But I wouldn't let this deter you from enjoying this home for your stay. If you are wanting to escape the business of a city, this is the place to go. Marshall

  • Tanya's Cloud Forest Sanctuary was a blast for us. The weather took a very stormy turn but it didn't even matter because the beautiful house was a joy to laze around in between hikes. I thought the upstairs tub would never be able to fill with hot water-boy was I wrong!!! We wished we could extend our stay because we liked it so much but had to move on. Highly recommend this property.

  • This was by far one of the best parts of our 2 week trip! Tanya's house is so beautiful! Perfect for a couple or small family. It is stocked with all the kitchenware you'll need! Just bring your own coffee beans -she's got a grinder and french press! We spent a lot of time relaxing on the deck, in front of the clay fireplace, enjoying the sounds of birds and watching sunsets every evening. The house has so much light coming in everyday. I enjoyed reading through her book collection which is great! You should have a 4x4 vehicle to get to the house otherwise it's a 10 minute hike to Hotel Belmar then another to the main road. Hotel Belmar has a Tico Time (Happy Hour) from 5-7 with half priced beers and you can enjoy the sunset there as well. The parking spot is a short walk to the house itself so I wouldn't overpack so that you can't carry your luggage or be okay to wheel it around on the dirt. It was an amazing stay at Tanya's house and we could definitely come back to stay here. We have already recommended it to our friends. Santa Elena is a small town but it's got some great coffee shops! orchid Cafe is one of them and the Tree House is a must see attraction! We went to Salvetura Canopy tour and that was a great experience! Would return to Santa Elena and Monte Verde

  • Yeah...wow. Its all in the details. From the awesome lit forest path to the wood ready for the chiminea on the gorgeous porch...this house was one of our favorites in costa rica. Absolutely could have stayed many days more. The smell of some tropical wood permeates this forest sanctuary and despite being in a rainforest the house was warm, dry, and an absolute delight to come back to at night. Oh, did i mention the hummingbirds, blue morpho butterflies, forest critters, and awesome manicured hiking paths? Yeah...love built this house and it is flowing through and around it. So close to some awesome restaurants and awesome rainforest adventures this place is the perfect launchpad for your monteverde adventure. If you are a prissy high heeled type that wants it all done for you this likely aint your place. If you like well architected, natural, peaceful, and adventurous cabins in the woods, then just book it. You wont be sorry.

  • Tanya's house is an amazing gem-- private and hidden in the forest, superb design and space, great amenities and closeness to nature-- everything you can ask for from an Airbnb.

  • Well-maintained home in a beautiful, secluded rainforest retreat. The house had everything you could ask for and more. Watching the sun and clouds pass from the front porch was magical. Excellent communication with Tanya and the family who guides you to the house. DEFINITELY requires 4-wheel drive to access the home as roads to it are not paved and often quite soggy.

  • We absolutely loved the place. Very private and extremely peaceful. Well equipped. Easy check-in. Clean. WiFi worked consistently. Tramonti's (local restaurant) was very reasonably priced and delicious. The chiminea was a great touch. Would definitely recommend!
