Laupahoehoe point park, Kalopa park, Akaka Falls, The Hamakua coast, Hilo, Waimea, Waipi'o valley, are all accessible within a day from this outpost.

White sandy beaches are 45 minutes from this spot. Further: Hawi about 70 minutes.

Hilo is a 50 minute to 1 hour scenic drive from here. And Volcano and Pahoa further on, about an hour and a half.

Laminated instruction plaques will come soon. :-) meanwhile I will be available.

I am more than happy to interact with the guests, but unless asked, I will respect the privacy of my visitors.

Altre cose da evidenziare

The structure is "off grid" and all electricity is supplied by the rooftop solar panels. Prolonged usage of high power usage items such as hairdryers and arc welders may cause temporary Power outages. Though, it hasn't happened yet.

Wi-Fi is reliable at the moment. Cell phones with Verizon work best in this area.

AWESOME!!!:) Cleanliness/hospitality/Amenities This was our second trip to Joshua's Ohana. Our first trip was in May, we had a great time. This place is perfect for visiting both sides of the island. Since our last stay, the road has been vastly improved so even our tiny Versa handled the road well. ON CLEANLINESS: When we came out before, the place was spotless and the towels and linens were fresh and clean, the sheets fit the beds as they were meant to( when I asked Josh about this he said they were trying some new fancy Ralf Lauren sheets, that have since been discarded). We saw NO MOLD. I went to the newest reviews, before booking to see what others had said since we had been there, I was astonished that there was a tacky thread about mold, which seemed vague at best. Having asthma made me worry bit, since any mold causes my breathing to be disrupted. When we got in the place was spotless and I checked corners, showers and window sills to make sure I did not wake up needing an inhaler. Usually mold leaves a silhouette/shadow, even after having been eradicated. Surprisingly I found NO evidence of mold. Dishes and counters also very clean as were the floors. Having worked in High End housekeeping (AspenClub) for a number of years I am pretty picky about where I stay. I am happy to let the "public" know that what ever issues were questioned there is no sign of "there was evidence of mold". Hospitality: I am happy to say that Josh was accommodating while not intrusive. The Fruit & Chocolate Gifts, were amazing as they were the first time and the new bed is much easier sleep. The shower has a low back jet massager and was amazing after a day of hiking and getting slammed around by the waves. There were small amenities (Body Wash)in the bathroom which were perfect for" just off the plane" and before we could get to the store. All in all I have recommended this place to my friends and family as an affordable and enjoyable vacation where the price is not so prohibitive as to disallow other island activities. I will return next year for my annual vacation.

Staying here was the perfect way to end the second half of our vacation! My husband and I were looking to experience the true beauty and serenity of the Hamakua Coast while enjoying some side adventures and Joshua's place offered that and more. To begin, Joshua is an incredible host and ensured that he would be available when we arrived to offer directional assistance if needed. Prior to our arrival I had read some reviews regarding lack of cleanliness, but what we experienced was completely opposite. Everything including the countertop, floor, linens, bathroom, and shower were impeccable. We arrived to a beautiful and generous arrangement of fruits from his farm along with some of his delicious homemade chocolate. Each evening I enjoyed sipping on some chocolate tea (that he makes and has some for sampling in the kitchen) and sat outside on the lanai to see the unbelievable view of the stars. In the mornings you can sometimes catch some pretty amazing views of Maui's eastern side. While it may be in a more "secluded" location, it provides a great launching pad to quickly access some great places to hike and adventure such as the Waipi'o Valley and Kalopa State Recreation Area - both beautiful! Also, you can quickly drive into Honoka'a to grab a bite to eat (The Landing has great pizza and beer) or some groceries if needed. If you are even considering staying here just do it - you will not regret it! Many thanks to Joshua for his hospitality and sharing his slice of paradise with us!

We had a great time at Joshua’s farm hideaway. The fresh fruit and chocolate was a nice touch. We were also surprised to find that he seemed to have completed some upgrades after we booked as the bed was better than the photos showed and he added wifi which was very helpful. The shower was a nice surprise for a cabin like this. We wanted something secluded and a bit “off grid” to live like the locals and this was absolutely perfect. One of the cats that Joshua has was extremely friendly and provided us with lots of entertainment while drinking wine on the porch in the evening. We explored the town of Waimea which had great art shops (Gallery of Great Things) and restaurants (Merrimack and Big Island Brewhaus) which we loved as well as driving down into the Waipio Valley and horseback riding on Kohala Ranch - which were all amazing. Such a great area! Cheers

We were initially very excited to stay at Joshua’s when we booked six ish months ago. Prior to arrival, we noticed one bad review regarding cleanliness. That gave us an uneasy feeling. We showed up and sure enough the kitchen counters were greasy, the floors were dirty, and mold was apparent. The sheets were clean but didn’t fit the bed properly, which may sound like a weird issue but it was as if two small sheets were simply laid on top of the mattress and kept coming apart. Again, this may sound weird or picky, but it was strange when you can see the mattress. Joshua was accommodating regarding regarding an issue with the sink he noted prior to our arrival and offered to book us a hotel. We declined. We’re generally easy-going guests, but do expect a certain level cleanliness. Gorgeous view and great cat.

A couple of things. If I crawl around, if anyone else calls around with her nose on the floor, in the corners, in the kitchen in the bathroom or the shower, they will realize that there is no mold in there. This is a common complaint for people who want to leave the Airbnb early and want refund. It's impossible that the counters were greasy, or that the floor was unmopped. I wiped the counters off myself, and when the broken sink sprayed water (a little bit) The counters were re wiped and the floor was a remopped. The next day, before the guests arrived we got the place in such a nice state that I took four pictures of it and posted them on the Airbnb website. Geesh. They said they were very laid-back. This I doubt. I had made myself available for texting communication, yet they departed without so much as saying "what's up with the sheets". OK, the sheets were weird. I saw them afterwards. My cleaning person thought they were fancy but I see exactly what the guest mean. There are plenty of other sheets, clean and folded, in the drawer below the bed. I find it strange that they left after one day and didn't tell me the truth of why. All in all I would reduce their communication rating to about a 2 1/2. So, good luck to the newlyweds! I remind them, communication is key!

Honestly, we feel like this place would be great for some- obviously they care with the basket of flowers, fruits and chocolate. In my mind these are finishing touches... I would have preferred a cleaner home without the extras. Great views, nice little place, lots of potential, cute cat. Our critiques: He did end up asking for an extra $10 a day for more than one person. Since we are a married couple and left the place cleaner than we found it plus paid the cleaning fee, I don't feel like paying extra for more than one person is reasonable. The curtains that are there don't provide much privacy. Biggest problem for us was we have our doubts that the towels and linens had been cleaned and there was black grease on almost all the surfaces (assuming this somehow comes from the stove).

This Airbnb is set on a gorgeous, lush organic farm looking out to the sea. The sugar cane surrounding the fields blows in the wind with a peaceful shhhh throughout the day and night. By night, stars twinkle in the dark sky overhead as you are lulled to sleep by frogs, crickets, nightbirds, the lowing of far-off cows. Wake up and sip your coffee and watch the clouds move over the seascape. The Airbnb is small, but we were quite comfortable, and the shower is lovely and the kitchen more than sufficient- Josh kindly left us delicious fruits picked from his farm and homemade chocolate from his cacao beans! We found it very hard to leave and will definitely be back again!
