ABOUT THE HOUSE:
This used to be the home to two families back in the 1800's. The house is believed to have been built in the middle of the 19th century and has withstood two worldwars and numerous inhabitants. Growing more and more tired and neglected it was leaning on the edge of the Baltic, until one day, someone came along who loves old houses and who loves making broken beautiful again:)
The whole property is newly renovated to support all your modern facilities and comforts. For those interested and knowledgeable in interior work you will see a lot of gorgeous old-style craftmanship throughout the building.
THE INTERIOR:
The bathroom was renovated in 2016. Here you can enjoy a long bath in a bathtub by a beautiful natural stone mosaic wall whilst reading your book, listening to the birds in the forest only a few meters away, or perhaps listen to the rain as it slowly drizzles on the roof.
The two bedrooms are set up with comfortable double beds, soft sheets and unique colour choices. The original old wooden floors feel great to your feet in sleepy mornings when you sneak up to go to the kitchen.
In the Master bedroom there is an amazingly beautiful old window where you can count the stars from your bed or let the sunlight wake you up in the mornings.
You will love the opportunity to have an old wooden fireplace (as well as an electric stove and oven), in the newly renovated kitchen. Here you also find all other possible modernities and equipment that you need to feel like a master-chef!
The Dining room is light and the dining table comfortably seats 4-6 people. It has the ambience of a romantic Japanese cherry blossom garden and this is also where you can use the sofabed for those extra dear ones that you would like to share your holiday with.
At the end of the house you have a small bathroom with a WC and shower, as well as a washing machine and drier.
Finally, you have the delightful Corner-room: Enjoy 5.5 meters of space above your head where the inner ceiling has been removed, a view straight to the Baltic, comfortable sofas and an amazing, charismatic cast-iron fireplace that will soothe away all kinds of stress. Listen to the fire crackling on any day when you just want a little extra atmosphere or let its glorious heat spread in the room whilst you relax in the sofa with a glass of something nice and enjoy the sound of a silent summer-rain outside(URL HIDDEN) ***************************************************
This house is a perfect place for someone who likes the nature, but also to spend time in a soothing interior.
There is no TV, because the owner believes in people making their own stories. In the library you will, however, find books to read and games to play.

GARDEN AND SURROUNDINGS:
Outside the house your closest neighbour is the Nature. You have a large green lawn where you can play badminton, pull out your table and BBQ for some social times, put up a tent or why not go and lie in the hammock at the end of the garden by the birch-trees?
The lovely atmosphere of this house and its old history as a home to workers at the old castle nearby, is interesting for both the cultural souls as well as the purely aesthetical ones.
Some days you might just want to relax around the house, some days maybe you will make the three minute walk down to the small, local marina. Enjoy a small area for swimming and suntanning as well as a jetty to practise perfection into your style of diving;) Chat to the locals that keep their boats here or maybe have a go at the kayak that will be available for you to rent when you rent the house! The stunning Swedish archipelago is just around the corner!
If you prefer to get on the bike you can bike for 30 minutes down to the small, sleepy coastal village Arkösund. Here you can play minigolf, enjoy a lovely meal at some of the restaurants, get on a tour on the ferry around the islands in the nearby archipelago or perhaps have a wine and a chat with a local.
For those enjoying golf you can also go by car to the castle of Mauritzberg.
Also the large zoo Kolmården is around 40 minutes drive away with lots of fun for the kids!
During winter (October-March) people in this area tend to hibernate inside due to unstable weather outside... This is when you cook a lot of good food, read by the fireplace and play board-games.

Altre cose da tenere a mente
The house is located in a valley, therefore the cellphone-reception is not good inside the house.
In Sweden we don't wear shoes inside...Please leave your shoes as you enter the house! The wooden floors really don't like stones and dirt!
There may be bikes to borrow, but you need a car both to get to your destination, but also to travel around.
What else... Oh yes: Im sure you will love it! Everybody does!

In the close and not so close area you have:
GOOD FOR SUMMER:
Kolmården Zoo: 50 mins by car.
Arkösund 10 mins by car, a cute little coastal village with a few pubs, restaurants and a lovely seaside hotel, a small seasonal supermarket, seasonal minigolf and kayak rentals. Don't miss out on the sea-tour around the islands!
Mauritzberg - 40 mins by car, an old castle with a restaurant and golfcourt.
The Baltic - a stonethrow away.

DURING WINTER:
This area is very quiet during winter-time. Arkösund's supermarket is closed and so are most of the small restaurants there. Buy food in Östra Husby and relax indoors like the locals!

Hi, I am a former traveller who has worked as a masseuse and travelled the world on boats. I love this cottage with all my heart and have had it renovated during the past 6 years. It used to be the family's summer-holiday house and holds a lot of fond memories. We didn't have a shower back then, so in the summers we would run out in the warm summer rains.. During winters we could sometimes go ice-skating between the islands and live off hot chocolate:) I love the green and wild countryside, the archipelago with its feeling of freedom and the fact that roe-deers will greet me on the lawn in the mornings. These days I work in an office in Stockholm, trying to leave my Peter Pan-life behind and become an adult:) I believe in kindness and respect and take pride in doing towards others what I'd like others to do to me. I hope, if you do visit Sjöstugan, this little piece of bliss in a stressed world, that you will feel as happy and relaxed there as my friends and I do.
