Hostel renovated from a traditional Japanese house.
We also have a pub downstairs where you can meet local drinkers as well as other guests.
We believe most of our guests have enjoyed our place but we have to admit we do not provide comfort like usual hotels. Read throughly the description and be aware of negative aspects.

*This listing is a mixed gender dormitory. (We also have women's dormitories. If some of you want beds in a women’s dorm, ask us the availability first)

Dormitory rooms shared with other guests.
Beds with individual lights, outlets and fan/electric blanket. Although there are some partitions between beds, do not expect perfect privacy.
You can use a small kitchenette with a fridge in the living room.
NO shower rooms for guests. Three common use toilets.

In Yakumo Kitchen, downstairs of our hostel, we serve foods and drinks at reasonable prices. Freshly cooked snacks and wide collection of non pasteurized Sake are our specialities.
You can book Japanese breakfast for next morning. Two small dishes with brown rice and Miso(handmade) soup for ¥500.

Friendly crews are always around. We are happy to help you. We do not speak English very well but we will try.
Our place is a bar rather than a hostel. If you want to enjoy talking with local guys as well as travelers from all around the world, Yakumo Kitchen will be the place to come.

Altre cose da evidenziare

Dorms are upstairs of a pub which is open until midnight. Some people may feel noisy to sleep.
Funaoka Onsen, public bath is just in front of our hostel. It will be ¥430 and really worth it. The bath house is registered as a national historic architecture. Open every day from 3 pm to 1 midnight. On Sundays from 8 in the morning!
If you really need, you can use small mandi room for our crew which is a traditional bathing place only with faucets(hot/cold water).

Negative: - I have stayed in some really cheap rough hostels when being on budget, this is comparable to a very low standards (smelly, small, smelly bed stuff, far away from center, no showers, bad toilets) and yet price ridiculous expensive for what you get in return. The price doesnt excuse the bad quality. Positive: - Truly a local place outside main tourist area but a backpackers hub. Very social place with great living room n other nice social spaces including an Onsen (hot baths) opposite.

I had a great time staying here, especially since there is a bar downstairs where you get to meet a lot of locals and also interact with other guests staying here

This is a great little place to stay for your time in Kyoto. The staff are super friendly, the place is conveniently located near public transport and there is such a great opportunity to meet other travellers. I would have liked to stay longer!

Arriving here feels like stepping into a Kurosawa movie. It's a wooden guesthouse, massive beams exposed, two stories, with the loft dedicated to bunkbeds of solid wood, rooms separated by Japanese screen panel doors, the creaky wooden floorboards a safety precaution against attacking Ninja clans. Down stairs traveler carouse and eat, sharing stories around the kitchen, leaning into each other as they drink beer, sake or shoju, or sit in the no shoes area with short tables and pillows, laughing, playing music, and making friends until midnight. Udon, fried chicken, mackerel, or maybe a special weekly dish only made one day of the week. All of the comfort food you could possibly want. At midnight the house quiets in respect for weary travelers up stairs. The guests go home, a pair of beautiful white dogs leaving with a local who has been holding up a corner with his friends since the early evening. Guests up stairs close curtains to sleep, while some enterprising guest might tip toe out to visit the local bathhouse next door, a neighborhood favorite that will bring guests from afar. It's open until 1am, which gives plenty of time to soak off the day's worries and head back to the guest house clean and refreshed. Coming back, a few guests are still awake in the guest room above the garage. Connected to the sleeping quarters by a hallway, travelers from many nations mix Chinese, English, French and sign language to trade tips, share stories, and exchange (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) information so that they can keep track of their new friends' travels as they go on their separate journeys. An orange and some bananas sit on the table, someone's breakfast waiting for them in the morning. The fridge holds a mix of alcohol and juices, convenience store food and snacks, a small kitchen area with a microwave and a hot plate just enough for a quick bite since the kitchen downstairs is closed for the night. So you head back to your tatami, your soft blanket, surrounded by wood panels, surrounded by new friends, gracious hosts, and a house that you won't long forget.
