Descrizione

Enjoy a brand-new one bedroom bungalow with separate living room, full bath, rustic pinewood floors and wall paneling (harvested on property), perched on a hill next to our orchard, in a large park-like setting with a view of our pond.

Enjoy healthy mountain living -- ten acres of native forests, meadows, a beautiful garden and a pond!

The cottage is on a little hill overlooking our own pond, and sits next to our fruit orchard. The living room and bedroom windows are west-facing and get plenty of light. There is lots of privacy and distance to the other units on the property. The interior is rustic but very new and bright, with your own wood burning stove and electric radiant heat.

Our water is tested clean -- delicious well water from our property.

For our cool mountain nights we can heat the cottage using the wood stove or electric heaters. The mountains usually don't get very hot so we don't have air conditioning, but we do have a ceiling fan.

The cottage sits inside a residential compound including two other units, a large beautiful central garden and an orchard. The residential area is enclosed by an 8 foot high deer fence, so that the deer don't eat everything. Please close the deer gates when you go in and out of the compound

Kids will enjoy looking at our chickens and ducks, but please do not open the coop.

We have one friendly resident dog (an Australian cattle dog) named Hazel. Because she is excitable, we ask that you don't bring other pets. Please don't feed Hazel or let Hazel outside the deer fence.

We have a pond on our property outside the fence that you are welcome to walk around. Please be careful not to fall in the pond -- it is deep and is dangerous to small children or non-swimmers. Please don't fish or use the rowboats.

There are many wild animals around the property, including many birds, deer, rabbits, bobcats, coyotes, and mountain lions, altho the deer fence tends to keep most of them out of the residential area.

We are in a rural area with only Verizon cellular coverage (we have a Verizon minitower on an adjacent unit) but no other carriers. We don't have a TV or cable in the cottage. We recently put a Wifi extender into the Cottage so the signal should be very good there now. The Cottage also has a OOMA VOIP land line (party line with another unit) for free nationwide calling.

We have a beehive at the back of the orchard, so please stay away from those white boxes!

You will have access to our large central garden with flowers year round, and you can take walks down around our pond.

Ed lives on the property and will be available especially in the evenings

We are in the mountains surrounded by redwoods, meadows and a winery. 1 mile up the road is an ecological preserve with great hiking. It is 3 miles down the mountain to a nice beach. The roads around us don't have a lot of cars so the area is great for bicycling. Go north on Highway One and you are at Davenport, an old whaling town with a nice restaurant and another nice beach. Just further north on the coast is Ano Nuevo State Park, where the giant elephant seals raise their babies on the beach each spring. Also close by are Big Basin State Park (with old growth redwoods), Henry Cowell State Park and many other great parks.

And of course, we are only 13 miles north of the wonderful town of Santa Cruz.

We are in the Santa Cruz mountains in a rural neighborhood with almost no public transportation -- there are two buses a day coming through from Santa Cruz -- to a car is a must.

Our resident dog, Hazel, is very friendly and loves guests. We have a couple of ducks and one chicken roaming the property.

There are lots of wild animals and birds in and around the property, especially outside of the deer fenced area.

The closest grocery stores are in Felton (New Leaf) and Santa Cruz (Safeway, New Leaf and Costco).

If you plan to go by the pond in the evening, bring mosquito repellent.

Please take off your shoes when entering the Cottage to keep things tidy.

No parties, this is a residential compound with two other residential units.
Please do not play music outside -- sound carries in the mountains and the neighbors have complained in the past.

Please use your own beach towels for the beach.

NO SMOKING, No pets; No fires of any kind (other than in the wood stove)

Please do not pick fruit from our orchard or flowers from the garden.
If you break something, we request that you pay for the replacement.

The cottage was very cozy and equipped with most everything we needed for a quiet weekend away from the city. Wish there was a full kitchen included, but we were able to make coffee/tea in the mornings and keep things in the mini fridge or heat things up in the microwave. Thanks for making us feel very welcome, and for the no-fuss check in and check out process. Hazel was a sweet heart too!

The landscaping is gorgeous, and the dog Hazel is a sweetheart. Not that convenient if you're planning to spend most of your time in Santa Cruz, but it's a great little escape. Would stay here again!

My partner and I had a great weekend vacation at the Bonny Doon cottage! We were pleasantly surprised to find that the cottage was a very spacious, very newly renovated one bedroom - the pictures do not do it justice! Anything we needed was easy to find, and everything we used felt like it was brand new. Everything was so clean, and the cottage was very cozy. Even though we didn't have the chance to meet Ed, he was sure to make sure we had everything we needed and was always quick to respond. The location was secluded, but also very close to every Santa Cruz attraction we wanted to visit, and every car ride was surreally scenic. We spent a lot of time with the dog, Hazel, as well! Would not recommend if you're not comfortable with dogs or have small children even though she knew to respect boundaries. Would recommend to anyone else because we had an excellent trip and no complaints or difficulties!

We really loved this cottage and it rates among the best we have stayed. The property is beautiful and private but just a short drive to Santa Cruz and all the top spots in the area. We arrived during VERY heavy rains and lost power one night however the property had a generator and we were not without power at all. The owner was gracious and Ed was there to take care of any questions we had. I would recommend this property and would definitely stay there again.

I'm an electrician, been in this area for 30 years. Moved here from the Bay Area. Somewhat of a mountain man. Love outdoor activities -- hiking, nature walks, beaches, dogs, riding Harley's, etc.

I like people, and want to provide a quiet place so people guests can relax. I am a part-time caretaker for this property.
