They are built is pure Swahili Style and furnished with antiques. Our cooks, stewards, and managres are entirely devoted to your service. Your cook is trained to do all food errands and prepare all meals for you. You can select your meals from our guideline menu and you will be served in your rpivate dining area. Food is charged at cost and recorded in a book of accounts. Each bedroom has a king size bed w/ensuite bathroom, ceiling and standing fans. Fully equipped kitchen. Staff are available for shopping, cleaning and preparing meals. Tour the village and Lamu town. The beach is a 5-min. walk. Enjoy sunset, fishing, and snorkeling excursions, and amazing Swahili food at wonderful cafes and restaurants.

Kai House began when I worked at Mikes Camp for many years and together with the island community we built this house traditional style out of palm fronds and coconut leaves mangroves and driftwood. Kinooni* House is one of the most ancient houses on Historic Lamu Island. Once the home of the Governor of Lamu, who was then the emissary to the Sultan of Zanzibar at the end of the 18th century, it has now been carefully restored with traditional Swahili design and craftsmanship to bring back the elegance, simplicity, and grandeur of the original mansion. * Kinooni means “the place of the sharpening stone” so Nyumba ya Kinooni means : “ the house of where the sharpening stone is”.
