Anklebiters
We have no interior photos yet. This room is being remodeled. This is for the kids in your life. The reason you go to work everyday and what you look forward to coming home to. Back in the Elk City days anklebiters made their own toys, rode their ponies, horses, and goats. They started their day clean, and came home dirty. Their pockets were filled with marbles, rocks, bottle caps, string, and a pocket knife. The authentic photographs in your room are of Elk City kids doing what they loved.

Fat Trapper
The Fat Trapper is for the Elk City legends of hunters, fishermen, and the trap liners, most of who did all three. If you stay here, you should know some trapper lingo: beaver kitten: a newcomer; blunderbuss: a short musket; bull thrower: a trapper’s rifle capote: a long blanket coat with a hood; greenhorn~pilgrim: an inexperienced person, new to the mountains lost your topknot: lost your scalp old coon: a friend skilled in the mountains old hoss: a close friend spin a yarn: tell a good story

Miss Young Room
You must walk up 19 inside stairs to reach an 8ft. ceiling hallway that leads you to your room. When you open the door, we want you to say, "Oh honey, Wow!" This is the only hotel room with a king-size bed, clawfoot tub, and no pets are allowed. During the 1900s mining heyday, Elk City featured several hotels serving miners, including the Parr Hotel (noted in 1901 and 1917) and the Elk Hotel (1930s - 1939). Miss Young was a caring woman who took in orphans. We named her, our nicest room.

Sheep Eater
The Sheep Eater is a term from the Tukudeka, a band of Shoshone Native Americans who lived in the mountainous region of Idaho, Montana, & Wyoming. They were called Sheepeaters because their food source and clothing material was the bighorn mountain sheep. They were known for living in high, rugged mountain environments, as specialized Alpine hunters. The Nez Perce were the predominant presence in Elk City. The southern Nez Perce Indian Trail runs up Main St. and over the Motherlode Rd.

Mule Skinner
This room is a tribute to the wagon train and pack strings that moved goods, pelts, meat, and mining gear to Elk City. Your horse, mule, donkey, or pony are all welcome at the hitchin post right outside your room. We stripped all floor layers and finished the real wood floor under it all. Note: In typical Mule Skinner ingenuity, I did not need to build a hump in the floor, it was there already. This is the most rustic room, one dog is welcome.

Tree Hugger
We named this room in honor of the U.S. Forest Service and all the jobs created in Elk City. Established on February 1, 1905 (USFS) was created during the Progressive Era to manage federal forest reserves scientifically for sustained yield. Led by first Chief Gifford Pinchot under President Theodore Roosevelt, the agency shifted from the Department of Interior to Agriculture, focusing on conservation, timber management, and fire suppression.

Stamp Licker
This room is a tribute to postal delivery in Elk City, during the 1900s. It was a challenging, vital service relying on hardy contractors, often traversing rough terrain via horseback, snowshoes, or sleighs in winter. By the early 1900s, daily mail was established, transitioning from stagecoaches connecting through Stites to initial motor trucks by 1918, overcoming fierce winter conditions to connect the remote gold rush community.
