Located in scenic Avery County, secluded yet close to town, Alpenhaus is located at over 4000 ft. The house features 2 enclosed decks and is surrounded by woods on 3 sides. Wake up to green trees outside your bedroom window or watch the sunrise reflected on the mountains. Look out for foxes as you enjoy breakfast on the south facing deck. In autumn, watch the leaves change from green to hues of red and gold. Enjoy a game of golf at Mountain Glen Golf Club or take a short drive to Grandfather Mountain or Linville Falls, drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway or go hiking or rafting, see the stalactites at Linville Caverns and then come back to appreciate the sunset from the living room window. In winter, enjoy a day of skiing or sledding at nearby Beech Mountain or Sugar Mountain. Jonas Ridge Snow Tubing is also nearby. Return home, build a snowman and enjoy the gas log fireplace which takes the mountain chill off the evenings. Experience our fully appointed kitchen if you choose to eat in or venture out to local restaurants in nearby Linville, Banner Elk, Boone, or even Asheville. Enjoy the Wooly Worm Festival, Valle Crucis Fair, Music on the Mountaintop, Land of OZ, Singing on the Mountain, Highland Games, Shag at Sugar, Oktoberfest at Sugar Mt. (because, "In Heaven there is no Beer...that's why we drink it here!") , Arts and Crafts shows, and much more. Then return a short distance to the quiet of your mountain getaway. This is a 100 year old farmhouse fully refurbished with all modern amenities. Three bedrooms and 1 bath, it is charming, cozy and tastefully decorated. The decor will take you back to a simple and easy time where raising big families and living off the land was the norm. Situated on the beautiful Doe river, you can step into the front yard and enjoy fly fishing or simply sit on the porch and enjoy the sound of the water. Located just a mile from Roan Mt State Park and 12 miles from the majestic mile high Roan Mt, home of the enchanting Rhodendron Gardens. This area is near Watauga Lake, Bristol Motor Speedway, several ski resorts, lots of hiking trails including the world famous Appalachian Trail. You will be in the midst of some of the prettiest fall leaves. The Blue Ridge Parkway is also nearby. There are so many things to do here, you will never be bored. We have several local restaurants that will keep you well fed.

This 2 bed/2bath cabin includes a loft area for remote work (really good wifi), extra sleeping space, etc. Fully stocked kitchen and high end bed linens!!

For mtn biking, you will be minutes away from the trails at Lees-McRae College as well as the bike parks at Sugar and Beech Mountains during the summer. In the winter, you'll have several skiing and snow tubing options within a few miles as we are within 10-15 minutes to Beech or Sugar. Wildcat lake is at the bottom of our street. Bring your fishing gear or kayaks/stand-up boards!
