It's a village within the city. Cabbagetown is a physically beautiful, culturally active, mixed-income community. A walk through the area yields many surprises - secluded alleys, converted workshops and tiny workers cottages share streets with grand homes and coach houses. Much of the area has been designated a Heritage Conservation District with the benefits and responsibilities that designation entails.

Harbourfront Centre is a key cultural organization on the waterfront of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, situated at 235 Queens Quay West. Established as a crown corporation in 1972 by the Government of Canada to create a waterfront park, it became a non-profit organization in 1991. Funding comes from corporate sponsors, government grants, individual donors and entrepreneurial activities. Harbourfront Centre has a seating capacity of 2,000. Harbourfront Centre works with over 450 community organizations, and hosts more than 4,000 events a year in many disciplines such as theatre, dance, literature, music, film, visual arts and craft. The development is governed by a 26-person community based volunteer Board of Directors, and is assisted by approximately 2,000 volunteers who generously contribute their efforts and time. This established Toronto neighbourhood acquired this name due to the original homesteaders coming from Ireland and Macedonia who used to plant cabbage in their front lawns as a source of food. Now this area boasts a large collection of historical Victorian homes. If this is your thing, then a walk through this area is sure to please. You can finish off your stroll for a meal and a pint at one of the many pubs and restos in the area. Check out the Cabbagetown Street Festival that is held the second week in September every year. You will find local artisans, street food and street performances.
