Some great hikes begin at this trail head including one of the most popular Anchorage hikes FlatTop (and it’s only about 20 minutes away!). Flat top is a moderate trail but can be done in 2-3 hours and has fantastic views of anchorage. The power line pass trail also begins here and is pretty much flat but with great views of the valley.

Glen Alps is a great starting point for lots of hiking, backpacking, and scenic views in Anchorage. There is a short walking loop accessible to all ability levels that gives great views of the Anchorage Bowl and Chugach Front Range. Some of our favorite hikes from this trailhead include: Flattop (also try the sunnyside trail from the rabbit lake trailhead) Little O'Malley Powerline Pass Hidden Lake Williwaw Lake Peak 3 & Rabbit Lakes (accessible from rabbit lake trailhead)

Glen Alps provides access to miles and miles of hiking trails in the Chugach mountains. You can get spectacular views just a short stroll from the parking lot. If you're feeling more adventurous, climb Flattop mountain--the quintessential Anchorage hike! You can also head out to "Powerline Pass" for a less strenuous hike with stunning valley views. Make sure to pay the $5 State Parks parking fee at one of the kiosks in the parking lot.

On a clear day you can get a great view of Denali just from walking up the fenced trail on the far left side of the parking lot. This is also the trailhead for Flat Top mountain.
