This is quite a drive, my maps says 30 minutes, but it will feel longer. It is totally worth the drive. This beach/park has playgrounds for kids, grills and shelters, (reservations required) if not reserved, the shelters are free to use, a fishing pier, as well as restrooms and plenty of parking. Surfing is to the left of the pier and swimming to the right. Most importantly, they have lifeguards on duty. Parking is $5.00 for non residents of Virginia Beach, a bargain compared to Oceanfront rates! This is the beach I took my own kids to for years!

Located just north of Back Bay Park where you can launch kayaks, have a picnic and go fishing off the 400 foot fishing pier. A less touristy beach location. The site has public restrooms.
