「ひめゆりの塔」は沖縄戦で亡くなったひめゆり学徒の鎮魂のために、沖縄戦の翌年1946年に建立されました。ひめゆり平和祈念資料館は、その「ひめゆりの塔」に隣接して1989年に開館した資料館です。沖縄戦に看護要員として動員されたひめゆり学徒隊の戦争体験を伝えるために、ひめゆり同窓会が設立しました。"Himeyuri no Tower" was built in 1946 the year after the battle of Okinawa in order to resurrect Himeyuri students who died in the battle of Okinawa. Himeyuri Peace Memorial Museum is a museum that opened in 1989 next to the Himeyuri Tower. The Himeyuri Alumni Association was established to convey the experience of the Himeyuri school squad who was mobilized as a nursing staff member for the battle of Okinawa.

沖縄戦で亡くなった沖縄師範学校女子部と沖縄県立第一高等学校の教師・生徒のための慰霊碑。２校の生徒は沖縄戦中「ひめゆり学徒隊」として沖縄陸軍病院に動員された。隣接する資料館では、生存者の証言映像手記、遺品などの展示を通して戦争の悲惨さや平和の尊さを学ぶことができる。

看護要員として戦場に動員され、亡くなっていった「ひめゆり学徒隊」の慰霊塔です。ひめゆり平和祈念資料館には、ひめゆり学徒隊の犠牲者の遺品や、多くの犠牲者がでた伊原第三外科壕が実物大で再現されており、ひめゆり学徒隊について学べる場となっています。 Himeyuri monument stands by the Ibara third surgery shelter at which many of the lives of the students and teachers were taken away.
