Declared as the Bosporus of the Saronic, due to the narrow strait that separates the island from the coast of the Peloponnese, Poros is an island with a unique morphology owing to the volcanic eruption of Methana. The round Spheria that was created by the eruption of the volcano hosts the beautiful city of Poros that unfolds on its wild and rugged terrain as well as the clock tower that dominates the highest rock.Kalavria is the larger island overgrown with beautiful pines and its connected to Sfairia by a small bridge over a canal excavated in 1877 to give access to the shipyards at Neorio. The beautiful city of Poros is perched on the hill with the historic colorful neoclassical buildings giving an aura of motley beauty to the island. Indeed, Poros has managed to maintain for decades at the top of the most traditional settlements in the country.Blessed with the most beautiful of nature from lush pine forests to idyllic beaches and drowned by traditional neighborhoods of another era, Poros is definitely a wonderful island! Lush gardens and traditional houses overlook the sea, before the alleys continue uphill full of mysterious corners with hidden surprises. Oh! And do not forget to climb the clock tower… The view is simply magnificent and the sunset over the “sleeping lady” unique

The town of Poros is built in the shape of an amphitheatre over two hills. In antiquity Poros consisted in fact of two islands, Spheria and Kalavria, but the last explosion of the Methana volcano in 273 BC radically changed the morphology of the area. Spheria was cut off from Methana, and in this way Poros took its present-day form. Lush pine trees vegetation, crystal clear beaches, a lively waterfront adorned with shops, cosy cafes and restaurants, a picturesque capital (it has been declared protected settlement) with grand traditional mansions and picturesque cobbled streets, as well as a wide selection of entertainment venues are the ingredients of this quiet, yet cosmopolitan, destination that attracts visitors from all age groups.
