The Fossil Centre is a short drive away, across the barriers and heading towards Burray. The centre was opened by the host's uncle Leslie Firth in 1993. Leslie and his father, Ernest, found fossils at Cruaday Quarry. They were keen to share these with others and donated the collection to the people of Orkney. There are many rare specimens to view. These are displayed alongside heritage objects of interest as well as military items. Information on Scapa Flow with a floor map showing the sites of scuttled German ships is an interesting exhibit. There is a cafe serving home-made food.
