Food Scene

Run by David and Sohani Bitton, this is our local café/restaurant and my kids have virtually grown up here! It's child friendly but also attracts young, old and the business community. The coffee is excellent and the food is delicious. They make the plain and chocolate croissants on the premises. Bitton's is open seven days a week and they also serve dinner Wed–Sat nights with a small but excellent wine menu.

Everything is super yummy and it's famous for their strawberry and watermelon cake. There are some tables but it's often crowded so take your goodies and wander up to Newtown square to people watch.

Relative new comer to the area but has already established itself as a popular favourite. Everything I've ordered here has been innovative and super fresh. Love it!

Just off Broadway in the Central Park precinct is Spice Alley, with cobblestone paving it is evocative of Asian hawker culture. There are permanent and pop up stalls to buy your food and outdoor tables to savour the dishes. It has a vibrant buzz and the smells are tantalising. Fun place to eat and socialise and it's kid friendly.

Delicious fine dining – middle eastern food at its best. I thought we'd get a couple of dishes to share but ended up ordering a five course meal – we couldn't get enough!

Located just off King Street, opposite Newtown Station, this is a great place to enjoy a beautiful bottle of wine with share plates or enjoy a full meal in the dining area. The service is friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed but classic.

The Hive Bar was the first small bar to open in the area. It's very relaxed often with a DJ spinning tunes on the weekend. Very popular with the locals with a good selection of local brews and interesting cocktails.

Arcadia Liquors is one of my favourite drinking holes. It's casual and friendly. It's busy on Friday and Saturday nights and they have live music on Sundays. It's great for a quiet catch up during the week and bar staff are helpful.

Parks & Nature

This well kept secret harbour beach is a little hard to find but worth a visit. There's a park area leading down to the beach and a path along the eastern side where you can climb along the rocks and venture further out into the harbour. It's totally gorgeous!

One of the best ways to experience Sydney Harbour is to catch the Manly ferry from Circular Quay. It takes about 30 minutes and affords stunning views of the harbour, its beaches, the boating community and luxury houses along the water's edge. The ferry sails past the heads (it can get a bit choppy) before pulling into the Manly Wharf where there are bars and eateries. Or you can walk through the Corso to Manly Beach. If you feel like a walk, follow the beach south to Shelley Beach for a more intimate coastal experience. If you feel like heading bush, trek through the Quarantine Station National Park to the Barracks or the North Head Sanctuary.

Sightseeing

You can't visit Sydney without a visit to the Opera House! It's a short walk from Circular Quay or a leisurely stroll through the Botanical Gardens. The Sydney Opera House offers tours and experiences as well as tickets for performances. It's lovely having a drink at the Opera Bar overlooking Sydney Harbour Bridge at sunset and in the evening.

The Rocks is a heritage area of Sydney showcasing the early European beginnings of this city. Many buildings are made from convict cut sandstone as well as the cobblestone laneways. The old buildings feature solid wooden beams and the mortar is made from crushed cockle shells. There is a market on weekends and a food market on Fridays plus plenty of bars, restaurants and shops. The Rocks is also an arts precinct where you will find boutique galleries as well as the Museum of Contemporary Art.
