Mount Kintoki: Kintoki Mountain hike. Buses go to Mount Kintoki from Daiyuzan Station. It is about a 90 minute to 2 hour hike to the top of Mount Kintoki. You can get fantastic views of Mount Fuji from there. Mount Kintoki is a popular hiking destination located in the Tanzawa-Oyama Quasi-National Park in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. The mountain is named after the legendary samurai Kintaro, who is said to have lived in the area during the 10th century. The hiking trail up Mount Kintoki is relatively short, but offers stunning views of the surrounding countryside and the Sagami Bay. The trailhead is easily accessible by car or public transportation, with ample parking available at the base of the mountain. The trail is well-maintained and marked, with a series of steps and switchbacks leading up to the summit. Along the way, hikers will encounter several scenic viewpoints and rest areas, including a small shrine dedicated to Kintaro. At the summit, hikers are rewarded with panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, including the nearby Mount Fuji on clear days. The summit also features a small observation deck and a picnic area, making it a great spot for a lunch break or a relaxing rest. The entire hike typically takes around two to three hours round-trip, depending on the pace of the hiker. It's a relatively easy hike, suitable for most skill levels, although proper hiking shoes and attire are recommended. Overall, Mount Kintoki is a beautiful and rewarding hiking destination that offers stunning views and a glimpse into Japan's rich cultural history. It's a must-visit for anyone exploring the Kanagawa Prefecture region.

Shopping

Daiso is Japan`s premier 100 yen shop! If you haven`t been to it, you must go, if not simply to see what you can buy for about one dollar. You will be amazed at some of the things you can get for a dollar. I recommend Daiso for souvenir shopping for friends and for yourself too.

Neighborhoods

Greenhill Neighbourhood looks like North America. The houses are Canadian, American and European style. So it looks like a different country. I am surprised that Greenhill is not more famous. It is a little further up the hill from Orange Hill Tennis Club. There are many Christmas lights in December/January. (Visit Kevin's Blog for more information: I am Hakone - https://nearhotspringsandfujiviews.wordpress. c o m) You could actually have a nice hike/walk up to Greenhill from Merry Lue"s Guest House. But it will be a 2-3 hour walk. But it will be a very nice walk if you like foreign houses. The roads are wide in Greenhill so it is a nice drive too.

(Visit Kevin's Blog for more information: I am Hakone - https://nearhotspringsandfujiviews.wordpress. c o m) History of Odawara Castle Odawara Castle was built in the 15th century by the Omori clan, who ruled the region at the time. The castle was strategically located near the coast and served as a crucial defense against attacks from the sea. In the 16th century, the castle was seized by the Hojo clan, who expanded and fortified it, turning it into one of the most formidable castles in Japan. During the late 16th century, Odawara Castle played a significant role in the struggle between the Hojo clan and the forces of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, who sought to unify Japan under his rule. In 1590, after a long and bloody siege, Hideyoshi's forces finally succeeded in capturing the castle, bringing an end to the Hojo clan's rule over the region. In the centuries that followed, Odawara Castle underwent numerous renovations and reconstructions, but it remained an important cultural and historical landmark in the region. In the 20th century, the castle was designated as a national historic site and underwent extensive restoration work to preserve its original architecture and design. Features of Odawara Castle Odawara Castle is renowned for its impressive architecture, which blends both Japanese and Western styles. The castle's main keep, or donjon, is six stories tall and features a unique design that incorporates elements of both Japanese and European castles. The exterior is adorned with intricate wooden carvings and paintings, while the interior features exhibits and displays related to the castle's history and cultural significance. Visitors to Odawara Castle can also explore the castle's extensive grounds, which include several turrets, gates, and towers, as well as a beautiful Japanese garden.
