Food Scene

The hip crowd hangs out here for the low lit ambiance, great food and tasty cocktails. Recommend making a reservation for dinner, but their brunch is definitely not to miss either!

Highland Park's own brewery serves an extensive list of their own and other Western states' craft beers, as well as a great wine list to match. Remaining a favorite of locals, it is always hopping and a great place to grab a beer and some munchies before heading to one of the local restaurants.

New hot spot - Prepare to stand in line to get a taste of this Rome style pizza that they sell by the ounce, letting the customer choose how big they want their slices to be. Amazing pizza for a bargain price. I always love to get small slices of each, accompanied by a nice glass of wine. Highland Park Wine is right next door to pick up a bottle or two to take home. Take it home or sit at one of their outdoor tables.

It's hard not to love this small, family run restaurant around the corner. They don't take reservations and expect to wait for 30-40 minutes unless you come when they open. I never mind - I walk less than a block to The Old Chalet or Eagle Rock Brewery and wait for them to call me on my cell when our table is ready. Pizza is worth the wait.

Don't come here if you are a health nut or on a diet. This SF born bakery breaks the rules of conventional baked goods. Cornflake cookies, churro croissants, cruffins (cross between a muffin and a croissant w/flavors like Thai Tea, etc), custard donuts...If it's a weekend, get here early before they sell out. During the week, you have a better shot of more selection if you come before noon.

Everyone I take here for breakfast loves it. It feels like a fun diner with friendly service and great menu choices, even for vegans. Open for lunch and dinner too, but my favorite is breakfast.

This is a small, no frills family run Mexican restaurant. It's not frequented by the hipster crowd and is a hidden gem in a neighborhood area. Inexpensive prices for good Mexican food and beers.

Great neighborhood wine store that stocks small boutique wines, from an affordable $10-15 bottle to high end. Just tell them what you like and your budget and they will find the perfect bottle for you. They have great $15 Wednesday night tastings that feature charcuterie, cheese, olives and bread.

Voted one of the top 10 restaurants in all of Los Angeles, Hippo attracts foodies from all parts of the city. It offers delectable Italian cuisine with great cocktails in a buzzing, trendy atmosphere. It's not the place to go for a quiet dinner and is quite popular, so recommend making reservations. Heard their brunch is great, too. Parking in back or grab a spot on the street.

Taiwanese classics get a hip twist at this local eatery from the Pine & Crane team. I love this casual, affordable eatery where literally anything you order will be incredible. It tends to get really busy on weekends, with long lines at times. No parking, so grab a spot on the street. Highly recommend!
